And guess what - you can't zoom the camera right in on your character. The camera stops way before you get a close up of your character's face.

Wabe I almost feel like you are trolling but maybe you really are having problems for some reason.   You can indeed zoom the camera in real close.  You can have BG2 style or NWN2 style.  It's perfect and flawless and everything NWN2 should of been.

You can zoom in just as close as you would in NWN2 so if you are really not trolling I suggest you play with the zoom a bit more since you've missed something I think.

You'll see your character's face plenty in dialog as well.

I live in Portland, OR (USA).

After seeing other people saying that they got the game early, on Sunday I decided to call like 30 stores to see if one of them will unknowingly give me the game early. Around 6pm or so I was able to weasel it out of one of the major retailers. I do not think the lady I talked to was aware that she wasn't suppose to give it out early. I drove there in about 5 minutes, bought the game and came back home :)

Really good game so far.

Okay, so if everyone here is such an expert (and I'm obviously a completely retarded idiot) then tell me, how do I click on the ground and walk my character from point A to point B?

And why would I want to swivel the camera around my character while I'm doing this? Because of immersion. I'm not playing Jade Empire here. I'm playing an RPG, and half the fun is just living in the world. I want to move the camera around on my character. This is the reason I took all the trouble to begin with in creating the look of my character.

And yes, there's no way to zoom the camera up close on your character. The camera stops so that you feel like you're standing about fifteen feet away.

And to those of you who feel the need to belittle me by claiming that I don't have a copy of the game, and am just making this up - yeah right, I'm just making this up. Yeah, right. Okay, you don't have to post here anymore since this is all just made up.

One wonders then, if the game isn't released until tomorrow, how you are having such difficulties. And I am sure there are people who will be able to answer your question, you know, TOMORROW.

His post makes sense and if he doesn't like the camera options he doesn't like them. Not going to bother me mind. I'm one of the ones who didn't like the NWN2 camera.

Man you sure did make a mistake by mentioning NWN2, everyone is just getting hung up on the name

Yes - the camera in NWN2 was clunky. He's not saying it should be exactly like that (if i understand correctly). What he is saying is - in NWN2 (and similar games) you were able to pan the camera around and zoom in close to your character while traveling/fighting/whatever.

I also really liked that aspect of seeing my character from different angles and especially when i got some sweet new stuff. If you can't "check out" yourself properly... it takes alot of the fun away.

edit- another benefit to the click-to-move system is when you're not in combat, you don't have to constantly be holding down the W key 24/7. Auto-run features are very convienent to me.

This is completely and utterly false.

Okay, for starters, I ordered this game from EA directly, and they mailed it to me on Friday afternoon. It arrived via UPS this morning the on truck. End of discussion. I will no longer respond to anybody who calls me a liar or a cheat or a pirate. I paid a lot of money for this game and I'm going to post about it whether you like it or not.

But I can assure you that the camera absolutely DOES NOT pan in as close as the camera in NWN 2. False, false, false. With the camera in NWN 2 I could zoom right in on my character's face if I wanted to - and again, why would I want to do that.... yeah, because this is a role playing game... get it.... you're taking on the role of another person. It's just immersive to be able to WALK slowly, and zoom in on your character.

Having to hop onto my character and drive around, like my character is a car, is just downright silly. And quite frankly that's why I bailed on The Witcher.

Sorry, but this camera is just utter nonsense.

(And to repeat myself for the fiftieth time - yes, you can walk your character by hitting the toggle button, BUT you have to be steering your character. I see no way, when the camera is way down low, to move your character by clicking and walking... the character always runs... and this just destroys the atmosphere. Maybe you can walk from the isometric view, but the isometric view is so far out that you feel like you're in control of ants. It's too far back. I'd never play from that far back. Sure, to strategize, every now and then... but it's just SO far back.)

Oh well, it's obvious that I'm not allowed to post my own opinion at this forum. I'll just add that this is the single biggest disaster for me since Ultima Ascension. I waited five years for this game. I cannot believe that in the space of just a few hours I've completely lost my desire to play this game.

Last night I would've said that this is the most excited I've ever been for a game. Wow.

Had a similar problem in Oblivion, modding community cleared it up maybe a month after release.

You are nothing but a troll it seems to me. The fact you get so pissed off about a camera, that is complete customizable on the pc is hilarious. The witcher was a great game aswell, and this one is definitely no exception either.

I've never met someone so upset about the camera in a game before (one that works fine at that) that they deemed the game ruined for them. Honestly that is just nit-picking if it bothers you so much wait for someone to mod the camera to replicate NWN2's. Honestly, you end every post you make with a sentence reassuring yourself how much the game has been ruined for you. It just sounds really ****y, sorry.

The controls, and the viewpoint, from behind, make me feel like I'm playing an MMO. This feels much more like Age Of Conan than it does a single player RPG. In fact, if feels EXACTLY like Age Of Conan.

This is the biggest disappointment in gaming that I've had in years.

It's just impossible to believe how bad this game feels. Obviously there's no way I'm going to give up on this. And hopefully I'm going to grow to like it... but right now... just wow... words are failing me... this is just the worst camera I've seen since Jade Empire.

From the trailers, I saw the Jade Empire-style camera and the classic BG series camera. Is there something wrong with your copy or have you not found the camera change button yet?

We get the idea already, so drop the histrionics.

Save your game and stop playing until such time as the unsatisfactory camera issue has been patched.  I suspect that you'll be waiting for quite some time as BioWare has had several months (at least since March) to tweak and fiddle with the details of the game and get it precisely the way they want it for release.

Good night.

You don't seem to be listening to anything any of the other posters are saying - from the experience of other people who have played the game (like you), and from ingame footage people have seen you can do a lot of the things you are complaining about not being able to do. It is not 'completely and utterly false'. Maybe something is wrong with your game or you aren't completely familiar with the controls yet? Don't you think it's strange that you are the only person who doesn't seem to be able to do these things?

And when it comes to immersion it's a matter of opinion, your experience of the game is going to be different from someone elses. The same with the camera and movement, like other people I prefer to steer my character - I guess it makes me feel like I am the character? that's just me though!

And btw, it wasn't designed for consoles, you should know this if you've been 'waiting for the game for 5 years'

yeah, specially now that he is being idiotic and comparing it to mmo's and age of conan, its clear he is trolling. Also, msot single player rpg's have this type of camera. get used to it.

NWN 2 was not bioware.

We all know that Obsidian Entertainment MADE NWN2, but Bioware Corp DID IN FACT DEVELOP THE AURORA ENGINE that was used BY OBSIDIAN to develop NWN2 [camera function included], therefore it is sensible to conclude that 'your' poor camera functions would be the result of either 1] Your lack of competance, or 2] Bioware's....I'm thinking thats its choice #1, I base my assertion simply on the fact that they have included a toolset for PC modification development...and as such, camera functionality should retain its flexability accross...oh, and how did you get ahold of a legal copy before launch? ...
