So you have to use the keyboard to control the camera? You can't zoom with the wheel or turn with right button?

No.

To zoom the camera, scroll with your mouse-wheel. When the camera is fully zoomed out, you can pan across the battlefield using the arrow keys, by clicking the mouse wheel and dragging, or simply by nudging the edge of the screen. At any zoom level, clicking the right mouse button and dragging rotates the camera.

Ty. I was completely confused by this thread and the pdf manual. Camera sounds perfect to me.

It's not a 'console port' The game was developed for the PC and ported TO the console.

And people, stop the insults and name-calling or I'm going to get grumpy.

So what? Clearly this game was designed in mind with consoles. Look at the blurry textures, the bad camera, the lack of any type of video options apart from Graphics High-Medium-Low, and AA. Where is the anistropic filtering, why do I have to force it? Where can I turn off bloom, or DoF, or change the shadows? Oh thats right you can't because its a console port.

It seems like the camera/walking controls are kinda like how I played in World of Warcraft.

I have a trackball with four buttons (around the ball) and a scroll wheel. If I remember, I'd hold down the right click button to pan the camera and then use the num pad arrow up key to move in the direction I pointed the camera. I could zoom in and out with the scroll wheel and auto run with one of my other mouse buttons (customized in the key bindings option). I really liked how I had it set up.

If it's like that in DA:O, I'm not gonna cry at all. I just hope that there's a menu option for key bindings because I hate using the WASD keys to move around and it would be cool to zoom the camera in and out with my scroll wheel. Can anyone confirm a key bindings option in DA:O? I'm hoping...

Thanks for calling me an idiot.

Next time I won't bother to express my own opinion. I'll just adopt the same attitude as the majority - and in this case the majority of people posting haven't even played it yet.

And yes I'm playing the PC version, and yes it feels a lot like a console game. Honestly, at the very start of the game in the mage's quarters it just seems ludicrous... just ludicrous... to click on the floor and watch your character run over there. In the mage's tower you end up doing this the whole way through. You're inside a building, and everyone else is walking, but you end up running around as though you're late for work. Just kills the atmosphere. Just completely and utterly destroys it.

Okay, if you grew up playing console games and want to rush around everywhere... be my guest.

It's unbelievably frustrating that I can't click on the ground and walk my character, because as I begin to play this thing it's obvious that we've got a great, great game here.

So you run!  I'm sure it's not like you're Speedy Gonzalez or something.  At least I'm hoping not...I like how fast I ran in WoW.  Any faster than that and I'm not so sure...

And so you can't right click and move to a position.  If you want some of that go play Diablo.

Aww has it got stuck with crappy options? I really wish games would stop limiting PC players.

Yeah, but this isn't WOW.

Jesus, is THAT why the controls are like this? Because Bioware was deliberately trying to make this game accessible to the hordes of WOW players!

Holy mackerel, I never even thought of that. Okay, that explains SO much.

You're right.  Even though everything from the interface to the control scheme to the type of game to the overhead option to the sharper textures points to it being a PC, and every single review points out that the PC is obviously the lead platform, and the PC version was actually completed in March and then ported over to consoles by a different team completely seperate from the main team that worked on the game, the fact that you can't turn off bloom means it's a console port.

It's this kind of incessant whining from nutjobs that has led to developers throwing up their hands and not bothering with putting any effort into the PC at all anymore.

Also, for the record, I actually have played the game all night as well.

Okay, how many of us are coming from Neverwinter Nights 2 - well, you know how many camera options they gave us there. A lot. Here, there are virtually none at all.

This feels like Jade Empire.

You end up steering your character from point A to point B. In Nevewinter Nights 2 I would click on the ground and then pan the camera around my character as my character moved. Nope - can't do that in this game. You have to stare at your character's ass the whole time.

And guess what - as far as I can tell, you can't click on the ground and walk your character there. Your character will always run. Wow, just kills the atmosphere. Yes, there's a run/walk toggle for steering your character, but again, I can't stand steering my character - you just end up staring at your character's ass the whole time.

So is this what we have to put up with because the game was made for consoles. Wow. This is hugely, hugely disappointing. To learn that the camera is far more Jade Empire than Neverwinter 2 - just wow.

People are going to be complaining about this for months to come.

If it's that big of a issue for you, don't play/buy the game, or create a character with an ass that you find attractive. Simple as that. Neither choice requires whining about it on a forum.

If you don't have downs, you're not a fanboy & u were just having trouble then you probably shouldn't be on a computer you could hurt yourself.

Also like 50 other ppl said if u don't like it then instead of crying just don't play it! It's not too hard to figure out. Everyone on these forums are really excited for this game and we all or most ppl i imagine appreciate the 5 long years of hard work put into this game by one of if not the best developer around. So stop trying to be a pain, all I remember you as is some fool who can't handle a keyboard & who cries in an attempt to suck all the joy out of this game for others. We all have our different preferences I'm SURE Bioware took that into account over the past 5 years. I'm sure this game has such an amazing and immersive story I'll never think to cry about the camera that hopefully I can figureout with this new complex keyboard thingy i got today.

Hey, whats wrong w/ console users? I can't afford a high end PC thank you very much.

I think everybody needs to calm down, th OP obviously expected the camera one way, but it was the complete opposite and now he is crying into his pillow, asking why life is so unfair towards him, I mean obviously this IS the worst thing that has happened anywhere EVER! It's an effing video game, get over it, or make a game w/ the camera who want. Good Luck w/ that. Enjoy the game ;)

Having spent nearly 3 years with NWN 2, this is frustrating, frustrating, frustrating.

And to the guy who said that NWN 2 was made by Obsidian, and not Bioware - come on, guy, do you actually believe that I don't know that. I'm well aware that Neverwinter Nights 2 was made by Obsidian.

And you should be aware that a huge number of people who played NWN 2 will be playing this - why, because NWN was made by Bioware of course! This is an RPG! I am shocked... completely shocked... that this game won't allow me to click on the ground and walk my character to its destination. I have to run, run, run everywhere. Or, like I said, steer my character slowly over from behind.

That just kills the atmosphere. I can't zoom in. I can't walk. I can't pan the camera around while my character is moving.

I don't want to play a fantasy version of Jade Empire, which is EXACTLY what movement in this game feels like. Clearly, this is a console decision. Clearly, the console gamers are going to want to run everywhere, and not take the time to pan in on their character, and clearly Bioware has made the decision to please them.

Wow, is this ever an 'epic fail'.

Yes this thread is indeed an 'epic fail.' Honestly, it's amazing what people whine/cry/complain/nitpick about.

Yeah I think the "histrionics" as someone else put it are why everyone's reacting so poorly to the OP. If he'd said something like "Hmm, I'm disappointed with the camera options and here's why" and left it at that, I doubt he would have gotten such a negative reaction. As it was, he felt the need to throw in "this is literally the most disappointing thing EVER and it's completely RUINED the game for me!!" at which point the collective eye-rolling began.

And guess what - you can't zoom the camera right in on your character. The camera stops way before you get a close up of your character's face.

Wabe I almost feel like you are trolling but maybe you really are having problems for some reason.   You can indeed zoom the camera in real close.  You can have BG2 style or NWN2 style.  It's perfect and flawless and everything NWN2 should of been.

You can zoom in just as close as you would in NWN2 so if you are really not trolling I suggest you play with the zoom a bit more since you've missed something I think.

You'll see your character's face plenty in dialog as well.

This is completely and utterly false.

Okay, for starters, I ordered this game from EA directly, and they mailed it to me on Friday afternoon. It arrived via UPS this morning the on truck. End of discussion. I will no longer respond to anybody who calls me a liar or a cheat or a pirate. I paid a lot of money for this game and I'm going to post about it whether you like it or not.

But I can assure you that the camera absolutely DOES NOT pan in as close as the camera in NWN 2. False, false, false. With the camera in NWN 2 I could zoom right in on my character's face if I wanted to - and again, why would I want to do that.... yeah, because this is a role playing game... get it.... you're taking on the role of another person. It's just immersive to be able to WALK slowly, and zoom in on your character.

Having to hop onto my character and drive around, like my character is a car, is just downright silly. And quite frankly that's why I bailed on The Witcher.

Sorry, but this camera is just utter nonsense.

(And to repeat myself for the fiftieth time - yes, you can walk your character by hitting the toggle button, BUT you have to be steering your character. I see no way, when the camera is way down low, to move your character by clicking and walking... the character always runs... and this just destroys the atmosphere. Maybe you can walk from the isometric view, but the isometric view is so far out that you feel like you're in control of ants. It's too far back. I'd never play from that far back. Sure, to strategize, every now and then... but it's just SO far back.)

Oh well, it's obvious that I'm not allowed to post my own opinion at this forum. I'll just add that this is the single biggest disaster for me since Ultima Ascension. I waited five years for this game. I cannot believe that in the space of just a few hours I've completely lost my desire to play this game.

Last night I would've said that this is the most excited I've ever been for a game. Wow.

Screenshot/video or it didn't happen. As many other posters have said, try reading the manual.
