does this game support the 360 controller? if so does it use the radial menu like the consoles. Would be nice to use my gamepad once in a while.

It just pains me to have to run my character around - sorry if that annoys the hell out of you, and makes you want to burn me alive at the stake. but that's how I feel. Sorry, sorry, sorry - and sorry again.

There's nothing wrong with feeling that way.   You have to know that almost nobody chooses to use walk features though.   The fact that you choose a couple extreme obscure pet peeves and labeled your thread "Wow, the camera just sucks!" is what's earning you hate.

Heck the whole walk thing doesn't even have anything to do with the camera.   You basically said the camera sucks because you couldn't zoom in on your face enough.

Baldur's Gate didn't have a walk toggle, so according to the OP's logic it was made for WoW fans, being one of which is apparently proof that you're stupid.

That was quite possibly the most elitist thing I'd ever heard. OP should be ashamed.

Not to mention that he started with flatout misinformation, that the game explains is wrong within the first half hour.

Agreed
but this guy should expect insults when slinging insults on a  forum
dedicated to a highly anticipated game. Not constructive criticism but
insults. He knew what he was doing when he posted there is a HUGE difference between plite suggestions or feedback for improvements and just blind iggnorance or even stupidy and then crying about it to ppl who won't feel sorry for some fool who can't read a manual or ask for help instead of immediately criticizing the game. It's ridiculous this is even being discussed the only reason i posted again was to defend this great game from you defending some fool who complains instead of reading his manual.

The one saving grace is that the camera height doesn't re-adjust itself. Whatever height you set the camera at - when you're away from the top down view - the height will remain constant. That's a major plus.

I've discovered that the midway setting seems to work the best. It's the most immersive because it shows off the world the best, and it's also the most functional for moving around.

Okay, I'm starting to warm up to this a lot now.

Well thank goodness for that now try to read the manual or experiment around before you bash a game ppl have worked hard on for 5 years or complain on the forums without even investigating a solution or any facts.

Oh no, I didn't say I was withdrawing my comments. I still very much wish that there was a walk feature in the game, and having played Neverwinter Nights 2, and Neverwinter Nights religiously, I'm still baffled as to why I can't simply right click (highlight that phrase please - RIGHT CLICK) and walk my character.

I maintain that having to run across the room really does destroy the atmosphere.

But if I have to live with this then I'm going to do my best to learn to like it - still, this is a forum, and I was posting my preference. Sorry, but that's what I was doing. Doesn't matter what the majority thinks. I speak for myself. What I don't do is try to write down what other people will agree with.

Well I just stoped playing at level 3, bedtime lol and the camera is better then i expected. im useing the default setting for and it and no issues what so ever. And you can go into the console and make all kinds of adjustments to it if you so desire. OP get a grip, this game is just not for you.

You can't move with right-click at all in these gmes though, all movement is handled through left-clicking. You also didn't answer my post earlier, does shift + left-clicking work? It worked in both NWN1 and NWN2, but it was a relatively unknown feature.

I agree with you though, I love to walk around instead of running everywhere. I think people were mostly concerned that you sounded a lot more serious off about this than one normally ought to.

I mean, the lack of the feature would be disappointing, but if it's local movement, for immersions-sake, I will use WASD just for walking and click when I go for combat orientation.

No, unfortunately Left-shift, and then clicking, doesn't walk the character forward.

The perfect example as to why I would want to walk my character forward, and be able to swivel the camera around, has just happened.

I've arrived in Ostagar, and the first sight I saw before me was a massive bridge spanning a chasm between two castles. What I wanted to be able to do was right click on the far side, and send my character walking forward - at which time I would swivel the camera about and take in the magnificent scenery around me. You see, that's what the atmosphere is all about.

People either understand this or they don't.

The fact that I was unable to do this kind of did destroy the scene a little bit. Having to run my character across the bridge, and rapidly swivel the camera around just wasn't any fun. I want to slow it down. And yeah, I did slow-steer the character across the bridge, but you can't see what's happening around you.

I guess I'm the only person who doesn't want to play at a million miles an hour. Sorry, I didn't grow up playing Super Mario or whatever. :(

Hmm, I've just read through 8 pages of almost pure rubbish! I don't own the game yet, it's on order here in the UK, so I don't expect to get it for a day or two now (sadly) so I obviously can't comment on the camera issue directly.

However, not having the game and repeatedly attacking the original poster for his *opinion* when he does have it doesn't seem to stop anyone commenting here and reverting to name calling.

Personally I'm looking forward to this game and hopefully it will be brilliant as were BG & BG2, however I can predict 100% that this game nor any other will ever be *perfect* as suggested by some of the idiotic fanboys on here, that attack the op for daring to suggest it's anything other than perfect.

No doubt I will be flamed too and called a troll etcetera, but I thought this was a forum and so open for discussion...

Thanks for calling me an idiot.

Next time I won't bother to express my own opinion. I'll just adopt the same attitude as the majority - and in this case the majority of people posting haven't even played it yet.

And yes I'm playing the PC version, and yes it feels a lot like a console game. Honestly, at the very start of the game in the mage's quarters it just seems ludicrous... just ludicrous... to click on the floor and watch your character run over there. In the mage's tower you end up doing this the whole way through. You're inside a building, and everyone else is walking, but you end up running around as though you're late for work. Just kills the atmosphere. Just completely and utterly destroys it.

Okay, if you grew up playing console games and want to rush around everywhere... be my guest.

It's unbelievably frustrating that I can't click on the ground and walk my character, because as I begin to play this thing it's obvious that we've got a great, great game here.

If you dont want to run everywhere then "\\" toggles run on and off.  You can move the camera when you walk by holding the right mouse button.  The mouse wheel zooms in and out or alternatively you can use pgup pgdn.

If you were going to control your character without clicking it would make it much harder to deal with the entire party - which is sort of the knock I had on Mass Effect.  I have been playing on the PC for a few days - X360 version comes tomorrow so I will be very interested to see how it compares.

It's not funny at all.

The same exact debate took place at The Witcher forum. About 15% of the people there were really disappointed that you had to run the character everywhere. We even started a thread about it, which grew and grew until it was locked by a moderator.

Again, you either understand why people want to click on the ground and walk forward, and be able to swivel the camera around, or you don't - you obviously don't. In NWN 2 I was certainly able to click on the ground and walk forward and move the camera, and in the previous RPG I played, which was Drakensang, I was able to do this as well.

I guarantee you that this so-called 'comedy gold' thread is going to be echoed by other people when they get their hands on this game - indeed, I would bet every cent that I have on it.

Some of you guys really need to understand that not everybody is going to want to play the game exactly as you do. Removing an option that absolutely does exist in most other RPGs (it surprises me that people here have actually claimed that walking isn't an option is most RPGS - that's just pure nonsense) is probably not a great idea.

But oh well, I've said what I had to say. We'll see in the coming days and weeks, won't we. My hope is that the guys at Bioware will take this seriously, and that if it's a simple thing to enable then they'll enable it.

:)

I have no problem with the camera, I don't mind steering in 3'rd person.. in fact the closer it is to 1'st person the better for me, but yes on the Witcher. I didn't pick that game up till the walk mod was released. "I need to go talk to this guy on the other side of this room.. I BETTER SPRINT IT!".

I partially agree with OP, it would be nice to be able to click on ground and walk instead of running. Yes, there is a walk mode toggle, but it only works when in WASD (over the shoulder) mode.

Alright, so I originally dismissed OP as a troll, and I still think some of his complaints are silly.

However after playing myself, the camera is seriously ruining the way I want to play the game.

Is there a way to make it not follow you in tactical mode? I want to play this as a spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate but that I can't move people around seperately without the camera going crazy and taking control of itself is seriously annoying me.

OP, maybe people would respond to your posts better if you put a little more thought into them. You aren't coming across very well... If you aren't enjoying the game as much as you would have hoped then fine, but it's the constant 'this is ridiculous' 'ludicrous' 'utterly destroys blah blah' that winds people up, what's with the histrionics? - personally I think it's unfair to trash the game on something so minor.

And it.was.not designed with consoles in mind. DA was in development for years, as far as I know consoles weren't even considered untill years down the line.

I will be both walking and running depending on the situation at hand. I really don't see this a problem. I'm off to bed because tomorrow is the big day. WOOHOO! :) Just cleaned out and finished making minor upgrades to my computer, just to make sure it was in tip top shape and ready to run the game smoothly. Happy gaming to one and all. See you all again whenever? LOL Goodnight now!

And guess what - you can't zoom the camera right in on your character. The camera stops way before you get a close up of your character's face.

This is SO disappointing. Why bother having such an elaborate character creation utility when you can't even zoom in on your character! It's even worse than Mass Effect. You feel like you're about ten miles away from your character?

And seriously, you guys actually prefer this? Wow. I sure don't. All the charm of being able to zoom right in and swivel the camera around on my character as my character walks up the street is gone. This feels EXACTLY like Jade Empire. I feel like I'm playing an action game here?

And yes is the PC.

Huge, huge, disappointment.

I completely disagree with your first point as you can use moune 2 to click on the ground then hold it down to move the camera around while your walking. You can even hide the hud which is great for screen shots.

I do however have to agree that its pretty frustrating you cant zoom right up to your camera.... im hoiping someone will make a free camera mod for screenies!!
