Its not cause hes gay, it because hes a whinny **** who never stops crying, srsly can't he be gay without crying all over the ship

Yea, keep talking to him. He'll get over it (and no you don't need to romance him if you continue).

I know I finished the game and I'm not getting at him because hes gay, Ashley is as bad every game she was in she was whining about something, good job she went to the plastic surgeon because shes freaking hard to listen to

Kaidan is pretty whiny too.  "How come I can't trust you Shepard?  Why do you cause me to have trust issues?"

This. The problem is he comes across as a walking stereotype. "OH MY HUSBAND! *sob*"

I haven't talked to my gay friends about his character but I suspect many would be a bit offended.

The troubled but composed gay shuttle pilot? Yea, way overdone cliche. Offended by what? Sadness at the loss of his spouse? What the hell kinda stereotype is "sad person"?

He's a nice guy, turns out to be a good character in the middle of the game.

I felt he was a symbol of loss. The war in Mass Effect 3 is meant to show loss. He is a clear-cut illustration and I feel he ties into the theme of the game very well. He's a rather deep and emotional character. That's why I feel he's great, besides him being the shuttle pilot. I felt Traynor was the symbol of apathy, akin to the citadel at the start of the war. I liked her character too, as well as Joker. The most touching moment for me was a certain reporter that people liked to punch. It was her caring attitude for humanity, Earth, and the Alliance that she displays so openly when she breaks down emotionally. Best paragon interrupt ever! Allers on the other hand feels lackluster in comparison. I know she tried, but there are simply just better characters than her.

Some gamers are bigots. What else is new. All of the characters have so-called whiny moments in their development. Interesting which is called out on.

I only mentioned him as this thread is about him but if you look at my above post you'll see me having a go at Ashley too, come on they are supposed to be soldiers

now I am gonna remove myself from this argument before it turns into a argument about gay people because honestly I could care less that hes gay

Yeah, I stopped visiting him the first time I went down and he was listening an audiotape (no spoilers.) Talk about clingy.

Mourning your dead spouse is not "clingy".

Aside from that one auto dialogue, he's usually only talking about work with James or has innocuous lines about landing you somewhere. It's not like he's a squad ate you have to listen to.

He lost his spouse a year ago.  Time to get over it, there's a war on.  There are members of your squad who have loved ones who may very well be dead but they are going on missions.

Had he lost his husband on Earth durign the opening battle... yeah, I can see the need for Shepard to help him with closure or something.

But this guy is supposed to be a military professional.

I doubt you've ever been in the military, but I highly doubt you've never lost anyone important to you, after reading that

Um were still talking about dead Ashley or Kaidan 3 years later and she was just someone on my ship for 2 months. Have you ever lost a loved one? You never really forget. Seriously what kind of person are some of you?

Except he's probably one of the most professional characters in the game. He ALWAYS acts calm and professional during missions, it's only when you're aboard the Normandy or on the Citadel that you see his emotions come out in him. Heck, his whole sub-plot is about helping him get over the loss of his husband. I mean find me a character on the Normandy who doesn't gush their emotional baggage on Shepard if he so much as steps in the room.

I think it's more "history repeating itself now the Reapers are here" that reopens the old wounds more than constant angst.

I'm really not one to call people out for being homophobic but if you wanted to kick him out of an airlock the moment he mentioned his husband, as one poster said, you are homophobic.

"It's because he's gay" is an old excuse. Just like the user said above, he's depressed and this kind of personality doesn't please everyone. Being gay has nothing to do with one's attitude or personality.

What? Cortez is a bro. Just talk to him a little bit and he'll stop sniffling about his husband.

You people who claim they're supposed to be military professions - and therefore should show no emotion - are so obviously not military professionals.
