I keep hearing people mention 'Go to the keep at level xxx' but I'm not sure what changes, and whether there is a better level than others to go. I'm currently just about to breach level 8, haven't done any major quests yet, and am just about to set off to contact the Dalish Elves. Is there a good level to do it?
What's the optimal level to do Warden's Keep?

I don't know the answer to your question, but it seemed to be at just the right difficulty when I went in with an avg. level 8 party.

I did it directly after Lothering on hard. I was level 7 or level 8.

Nice food for thought people, cheers. So it's off to Brecilian now and WK afterwards for me.

I did it after lothering too this time, the first time I didn't do it until later on and it was very easy.

Be advised if you do it at lower level the gear you get wil be lower tier.

Yeah the drops are the same regardless on when you do it.
I suggest you do it as soon as you hit the camp, if you have the stone prisoner you could do that first.

I've already done Stone Prisoner. Thing is, I need to unlock AW as I've got a spec point but I've only unlocked Shapeshifter and Bard - I'm not that fussed about changing into spiders and I can't even use Bard on my mage

You can do it at any level. I always put it off for later so I'm not stuck using the gear from there for 4/5 of the game though.

Frankly I quite like using the same gear, to a degree. I've always disliked these stories where the hero goes through an epic quest with his faithful sword, only to ditch it at the climax for some brand new uber-shamalamadingdong just beforehand
