I wasn't going to do this, but I saw some inspiring suggestions and decided to cave in.

1) HK-47. Seriously, no way around his hilarious commentary.

2) Alistair. A male companion who is witty, sarcastic, emotional, not annoying and a romance interest to boot? God-damn.

3) The Prince. Prince of Persia and the Sands of Time. I liked both of these princes, but I didn't like the sequals to SoT so much. The prince remains an awesome character, however.

Jon Irenicus from BG 2 is probably No1 for me, full of complexities, hatred and pain. A bad guy born not entirely from choice. Brilliant.



No2 is a weird choice but the narrator from bullfrogs dungeon keeper 2 had a tone that was dripping with a sardonic bent and made the introductions to each level a pleasure



No3 probably Saren from Mass effect, it's just a shame what happened to him, as the conflict he faced within himself brewed and bubbled till the end and you only a sliver of what the character could have been.

Hm, it's hard to name only 3...

1. Jon Irenicus (BG 2) Such a great, complex and tragic antagonist
2. Sten (DA:O) I didn't expect it, but he came to be my favourite companion. It's a nice change to have a NPC companion actually holding back on you. People who tell you their life-story without hesitation tend to be boring
3. Arthas (Warcraft) The path to hell is paved with good intentions...

Runners up: Loghain, Minsc & Boo, Wrex, Khelgar, HK-47, Shale, Oghren...and half of all the other Characters Bioware/Black Isle did...

I know it's not in the topic, but for convesation's sake I really hated Darth Malak and Darth Bandon from KOTOR. They seem way cliches and too "snidley whiplash" for me. It's one thing to hate a villain for his villanous deeds, it's another to hate a villain for his poor writing and lack of complexity or motivation.

3. Jolee Bindo (KOTOR). I loved the "grey" Jedi thing he had going on.

1. Kefka Palazzo. Hands down, the narliest, most sociopathic villian.

3. Locke Cole. Great lines all around

Kerrigan (Star Craft) - she is just too badass. I mean, leader of the Zerg! I love the Zerg <3



Kaelyn the Dove (NWN2). I started out HATING her. Then I learned her back story and was like. . . damn, I love you.



Bishop (NWN2) - I felt a twisted sort of empathy towards Bishop - he was a jack ass but there were these hints behind his ass-hattedness that made you go "I kinda understand why". That and I liked how you gained approval with him for doing intelligence checks

Thats right, another Kefka lover. It is time to recover the insight that FF7's popularity is off the stolen work of FF6 redressed. Down with Sephiroth, up with Kefka! Down with Cloud, up with  Terra! Down with Chocobo... up with Chocobo!

Also, I forgot about Minsc and Boo when I was creating my list, I probably would have had them as my #3 instead of Magus.

HK-47, for the obvious reasons.

Wild Flower from Jade Empire, the interesting dynamic of basically having three characters in one and then forcing you to choose between them towards the end. Loved it.

GlaDoS from Portal- So creep. So hilarious. So awesome.



As an honorable mention for a DAO character since I feel it is too soon to include them in the big lis: Zevran, I find him entirely endearing and hilarious.
