Ok, so I like Origin's Cloud feature... however... I am now unable to play Dragon Age and Dragon Age II without disabling Cloud.  The games save files are so large, that having more than one or two characters causes you to exceed the 100MB per game limit, which then you can't play until you either delete all your saves or disable the Cloud service.

So, WHY does DAO and DAII have Cloud Support when it's really not feasble due to their huge save files?

It wouldn't be as bad if I could individually select what games to sync to Cloud and which ones not to, but currently it seems it's "Enable Cloud for All Supported Games" and not a choice per game.

I think the team behind EA Origin just sticks that on every game they can regardless of whether it's a good idea or not.

Yeah, I think so too. I mean I like it, it's a great feature... but it should not have been an option for Dragon Age games due to the sheer size of their save files. Heck, my Dwarf Commoner's save file is 97MB and the Cloud limit is 100MB per game (at least each game has it's own allotment)

DA2 saves aren't all that large, they just have humongous screenshots with each save if you're using high settings.

I don't let Origin through my firewall.

Hmm good luck getting your DLC verified then Sylvius. Plus, what does your post have to do with the topic? NOTHING.

As for the save files, I'm not talking about screenshots. Those are not as far as I know uploaded via cloud anyway.  I'm talking about the actual SAVES in the "saves" folder for each character.  As I said, my dwarf commoner's folder is like 97MB and that is NOT the screenshots.

Origin save files are big, yes. They grow massively as the game goes on, up to 16MB per savegame by the end of Awakening.

DA2's actual save files are a lot smaller, however, maxing out at less than 1MB at the end of the game. But with them, in the saves folder, are the screenshots of what was going on when you saved the game called "screen.dds" - and if you've got DirectX 11 enabled, these are 8MB each and thus make your saves folder far bigger than it needs to be.

You can delete these screen.dds files with no real ill effects (link) With those files deleted, my 8 complete playthroughs add up to 130MB or so, so if I move a few characters to somewhere else then I can sync with the cloud OK. Though having to regularly prune the save games of screenshots might make it not worth the hassle.

Also, it seems like it only tries to sync if you launch the game via Origin? So if you don't want to use the cloud thing you could launch the game from a desktop shortcut?

Ah ok... though the first part as I said, my dwarf commoner's saves are like 97MB.  But yeah DA2 is significantly less, and that screenshot thing I ddin't know so that helps.

So, thanks for the info I'll prune my saves maybe or just not launch via Origin.

Though, I still think that EA needs to make EACH GAME have its on "use cloud" option, not just  one for all games.

You know, the first thing I found myself thinking when this message just popped up is 'why the H isn't there a 'buy more space' option'? It would be so simple to say...pay 5 bucks and increase the storage to say..500mb, or 1g

Clearly when they set this up, they didn't thoroughly test it or think it through.
