And it's a stupid mechanic to the game and DLC (no, i'm not complaining about prices, since the DLC in question came with the game).

Due to me using Shale in my game, i had to go on a trip today, and figured i could spend a few hours playing DA:O since i had not hing else to do (brought along one book instead of two, and the first one got finished a bit too early)!

The exact error was "This saved game contains premium content , you must be logged in to continue playing".

So what we're given is an awesome/wonderful/beautiful game (screw the naysayers!), yet....we can only play it if we have an internet connection.  I don't remember that part being listed on the box, lol.

Damnit.

Interesting. Thanks for the warning Bak. Did you try starting a new game and avoiding the downloaded content? Uncheck the boxes in the downloaded content box?

At least if you can start a new game, you can play some during your trip, even if it's not the game you started at home.

Try out the info in this post. You should be able to play/use all DLC offline. If you can't, it's a technical glitch.

There are other posts about this behaviour in other places, too.

Edit: Nevermind, apparently there are issues with PC DLC I don't know about.

This sounds like an Xbox 360 issue. PC doesn't need an internet connection for the DLC, but XBox Live's authentication system requires an internet connection if the content is being used on an XBox that the content was not originally downloaded on. For instance, if the OP brought his Hard Drive with him but not his system, so he could plug into a friends system, he will need a connection to live in order to use DLC. If he is using the system that the content was originally downloaded on, he should not need an internet connection.

The only other thing it could be is if he is on PS3, I'm not sure how their authentication works.

Thanks Kevin, that was an interesting post.

Unfortunately (or Fortunately?) i have my cd key entered into the system from when i installed the game, but it might be missing from the registry as that post by "aaaa1234" said.

The only setback, is that at the bottom of his instructions, he says...

- Navigate to the data directory on your installation cd and run 'Dragon Age_code.exe'. A prompt will appearing allowing you to re-enter your cd key

There is no "Dragon Age_code.exe" under /data/

I have a directory named "launcher", and "DAOriginsConfig.xml", "DAOriginsLauncher.xml", "DAUpdater.xml", and "sku.ini".

I am in an area with internet connection right now (as verified by my moaning and complaining in this post, lol), so things are good until the next trip...which means i'll have to bring something else along on those long business flights.

@BelgarathMTH - Hey Bel! I didn't try starting a new game. I'm itching to start a new character and run the game through on that, however i know that if i do it, i'll not finish the game i've already started (which is at the end of the Urn of Ashes quest). I was just trying to get in there to see what happens next....you have to admit, the story in this game has you at the edge of your seat at times.

I think the people who think otherwise are possibly illiterate ;p and thus don't enjoy "stories" anyway!

For every person that takes the time and effort to correct this little 'glitch' there are ten that throw their hands up, close the game, and never return.

Keep that in mind Bioware.

I actually have this problem on the PC, and that link provided above seems to solve that, so I'll have to do that later. Thanks!

Aye my game's registered, dlc authorized, all fine and dandy if I have connectivity. If I don't, I get the same message as the OPs, for all my DLCs. Also get that message even if I do have connectivity if I don't wait a few seconds upon starting the game up, to allow it to reauthorize what it's already authorized :/

It's not the location on your hard drive, it's on the DVD. You won't have those other files in the DVD data directory. In there, you'll see files like DataSetup.exe, Dragon Age Uninstaller.exe and Dragon Age_code.exe, among many rar files and others.

Well, my CD key is listed in the spot it should be according to that link, and yet I still get the "This saved game contains BioWare premium content. To load this saved game, the owner of this premium content must log in" if I try to load my game up right away. I have to wait like 10 seconds on the main title screen before I do anything and then the warning goes away. Is this something different than what is being described here?

And if you read the link Kevin provided, you'll note they're aware of the issue and working on a fix for it. ;)

Well, one year later, they haven't worked one out yet. *sigh*  Very frustrating.

More than a year old issue still claiming its victims. Me included.

Problem:
"This saved game contains premium content , you must be logged in to continue playing"
Did the check, my cd key shows up in its place in the config utility.

Must be some server issue or something. Trying to play my game now and it is telling me the owner must log in when I am. Worked fine at 7 in the morning.

I hope you are right. I need my saves to have reference for some drawing and sculpting I'm doing.

I'm getting this on the PC and connection I usually play on, I can't load any of games because I'm being to told to sign in when I already am signed in. Is this problem ever going to get fixed? surely enough time has passed since where you can remove this ridiculous DRM?

If I had stolen the DLC from a torrent site I wouldn't have any of these issues, you're hardly encouraging people to do the right thing.

Exactly, this system is utterly retarded. If we've legitimately bought the DLC and registered it, then just let us use it without having to be constantly rechecked!

I got an idea and shut my net connection, started up the game afterwards. It did the trick. LOLB)

After playing for a couple of hours, rebooted and suddenly started getting this message. All my DLC content is now showing as "unauthorized." Nice. Since I'm on a Mac, I'm guessing this problem is due to EA's auth server being down.

Bad, bad design that DLC breaks your save games. If the auth server is offline, why can't I disable that content and just keep playing? Bench Shale and take away my Blood Dragon armor for now, I don't care. But don't shut me out of the entire danged game.

Edit: Props to hunbi -- I restarted my router and with a fresh connection, the error message went away and I can now access my saves.

Thanks!

Actually that's only because you are not logged in. I can also play by logging out, but I wouldn't recommend doing that. I don't know the details but I think saving a game while not logged in with make it somehow different from a logged in game and they may no longer work properly.

At least that was my experience when I tried to do something similar in Mass Effect, which uses the same system.

Wrong!  The only difference between being logged in and logged out is that your character's profile and your game achievements are not put online.  It has absolutely nothing to do with backing up saved games, nor does it alter saved games in any way.

Unfortunately, every time the game does a vanity profile upload, it also checks the authorization of the DLC.  Sometimes it will fail that check.   In other words, once DLC is authorized, you do NOT need to log in a gain to play.
