Am I the only one wondering?
After all we don't see him being killed, we see him about to be killed.
Then Flemeth said that the darkspawns took survivors and brought them underground...

I can't help but think we will see Duncan again...

No. Duncan isn't dead. If you're asking me, that is.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it. :P

He is dead.

But his corpse is possessed by a spirit, like Wynne!

For all intents are purposes yes. I think they just don't show it on the offchance they want to bring him back in DLC or something.

I thought about that, but Duncan is obsessed about ending the blight. I don't think he would just leave 2 inexperienced Grey Wardens to fight it themselves if he could do anything about it.

+ Duncan told Alistair - He was going to Orzammar soon - So he wouldn't have much time left either way.

"Can't do anything about it" doesn't equal death. He's obviously indisposed at the moment.

By the power of the beard he is alive. The beard protected him, totally parried that axe.

I dont think he's dead. The cutscene where he gets axed doesnt really tell if hes dead or not. I didnt see a freakin dead body. :P

Also, Duncan was built up even before the release of DAO. Hes also like a big part of you being a Grey Warden.

I guess we'll know soon enough.

For some reason, that just sounds badass. I am the Broodfather!

He wants you to think he is dead. He knew what it takes to kill an arch-demon, so he recruited another warden and got the hell out the first chance he had. You're backtracking around the country and he is on some beach sipping from some drink with a tiny umbrella in it.

Seriously though, he's all beat up, hunched over Cailan, you see the darkspawn blade fall from Duncan's perspective, and then there is a flash of white. It's very dramatic. I thought the conclusion was unmistakable.

Nowai in hell can "the" greywarden die just like that. He did the Neo trick and went "no".

Yeah I have a hard time imagining him alive, but who knows perhaps there will be DLC in the future where we have to track him down and put him out of his misery, after not finding his remains or weapons/armor at Ostagar? :P

Edit: Then again, that flash to white could have been his beard awakening.

I could imagine him going insane, losing his armor and clothing while sitting on Cailan's corpse and defending it valiantly.

His beard lifted up and revealed a third fist wielding yet another sword which parried the Alpha's axe and proceeded to slaughter the rest of the Darkspawns, naturally.

Sure you didn't mean to say "defiling it vigorously"...?

I think it's very, very likely that he's alive .. in whatever form... given we did not see his actual death which is usually a dead giveaway.

Maybe the taint finally got the better of him and we'll soon meet him again as a half-darkspawn?

The Darkspawn was hacking your neck as well when you were saved.
