That's your opportunity to change his personality. He'll be more interested in his own needs and will paradoxically make a better king and be more willing to be king.
Unfortunately he'll stop saying "Your desire is my command" if you're in an adored romance and start saying "Something you need, my dear?"
Only main reason not to do it really.
You need to tell him "Everyone's out for themselves, you should learn that."
And then back at camp if he has a conversation, don't back down from it and don't say "I didn't mean that!"
And then you practically have a brand spankin' new Alistair who is a lot less wishy washy come Landsmeet and has opinions of his own.

This is the part when he either is hardened or not sound dirty but true lol he changes if you choose right dialog choice.
