I was thinking the same thing. It would make total sense that after being shot by Harbinger and so injured that he is finally susceptable to indoctrination, the final race to the beam is an illusion! 

Therefore the three husks could have really been Tali, Lirara, Javik (whomever your top three squaddies were), but Marauder Shields, your final foe, was actually Garus, all of them disguised by indoctrination hallucinations.

That would also explain how they all warped from Earth to seemingly escape on the Normandy, because really, it was all in Shephard's head as a wish fulfillment dream that his friends and comrades would escape death through being delivered - in his mind - to a heavenly paradise in their afterlives.

I know it's all a bit far-fetched, but it does make more sense than a straight reading of the end.

2 days later, I'm still so confused. Oh Marauder Shields, the horror you could have saved us from if you were only successful...

I have a question for members of the retake movement and everyone else in this thread.......assuming under the best of circumstances bioware does change the endings for the ME3 and it goes even better than anyone's wildest expectations....
