On my playthrough, he completed his mission, and then some. I'd be really embarrassed if I was the only one who has been killed multiple times by Marauder Shields.

None trained as hard or for as long as Marauder Shields. All while Shephard was gathering his forces, Marauder Shields was learning everything there was to know about Shephard and his plans, and discovered the perfect opening for his attack. Those other reaper soldiers died to give Marauder Shields his chance to strike.

Then I heard people were dying to dear Marauder Shields.

He was a mean shot and a hero.
