Multiplayer: People on same LAN disconnecting each other

I find it really annoying that I cannot play with people that are on the same LAN.

My sister and I share internet connection and when we try to join a game together, whoever gets in first gets disconnected from the game and the other enters normally. Now, if the first one that got disconnected tries to log back in by closing the game (Alt+F4), he throws the other player out.

It took us about 40 minutes of simultaneously launching the game to finally get both of us in. By that time of course we were able to get just a couple of games in only.

Can you please address this issue? It makes it really hard for me and whoever is on the same network with me to actually enjoy multiplayer.

Thanks in advance.

I have been playing LAN mostly, because playing with people outside of my LAN causes lag and disconnections. So I can safely say, being on a LAN is not the issue. The game goes into peer-to-peer mode once it starts, with one player being the host, the others the clients. Try starting a private game, invite your friend on your LAN, give that a go. If that works, try inviting them again, AND a friend from outside of your LAN, and give that a go. Let me know how you get on, seeing as we have almost entirely the opposite issue, I'd be interested to hear how you go.

We usually play 2 people from the same LAN and 2 people outside the LAN. If someone from outside the LAN hosts the game, we cannot connect. If either of us on the LAN host the game, the other can join as well one of the people outside the LAN but not both of them.

So most of the times we're 3, 2 of us from the LAN and one outsider.

I have all ports open and even disabled my software firewall. Maybe it's related to some internal settings there of our network. But it's nothing fancy, just 2 computers connected to a router.

You only get one external IP address with most home internet connections. Internally, of course, you get an IP address for each machine. Ports can only be open to one machine at a time. This is a limitation of most home internet connections.

The only way I know of to resolve this is to get multiple external IP addresses from your ISP and to run without a NAT. This may well not be a facility your ISP is prepared to provide though.

How do you get out to your internet, is it PC+PC > Router > Internet ? OR are there more steps in between? BongMong's suggestion of multiple IP Addresses externally speaking, could very well clear that up. I'm waiting to see if a patch comes out in the next week or so to clear some of these issues up. Here's hoping.

PC + PC > Router > Internet

As BongMong made me realize, I am only forwarding the 2 ports to my machine and not the other one since it doesn't seem possible. Getting a second external IP from my ISP is nearly impossible so I guess I am stuck... unless they release a patch to fix this issue.

Are you using seperate Origin accounts?

I have the same issue. 2 PCs using 2 separate mass effect 3/origin accounts on the same network.

We can play if its just the two of us in a game, as soon as either of us hosts a public game, one of us will be disconnected.

And if we both join a game that neither of us are hosting, we get immense lag to the point that we are unable to move.

There is no way for me to get an extra IP address from my ISP. This will be incredibly depressing if this is how it is "supposed" to be, one of the main reasons we got the extra account (instead of both playing single player on the same account) was so that we could play multiplayer together, with other people.

Of course it's 2 different accounts. At least someone else been having the same problems.

As Caldria, we both purchased the game for the multiplayer so we can play together but it seems impossible if we also want all our friends to join.

Any indication that this is being looked into?

I have been playing with my brother for days now and we're on the same home network.
I do host our games, so i cant say about the issue of us both joining others games(i cant play with Origin in game active, so i cant join anyones game), but we 2 plus 2 random people from the web works just fine.

i too got the same problems..it is worse as 3 of us bought 3 cds just to play multuiplayer in same lan..sadly..too many disconnects make it impossible for all of us to play together..we end up playing with other people with only 1 of us online and the other just watching since we cant play together at the same time..
