There is an issue where the dialogues either go really quiet or don't make any sound at all, and after some testing I've realized that it's only when I use my 5.1 speakers. Setting the "Dynamic Range" to low or high doesn't seem to make any difference. My soundcard is a Creative X-Fi Fatality with front panel, headphones connected to the FP seem to work perfectly all the time.

Does anyone else have an idea what could cause this behavior? The speakers are old Hercules relics from an earlier age but they don't have problems with other games.

Robert Blake kindly pointed at a possible solution - dialogue is only on center channel and I might not be getting output on it. All too true - center wasn't working but after cleaning and reconnecting the jacks it works. Thanks again. ;-)

The game will auto-configure based on your windows sound output settings... so you should start by checking that this is set up correctly. Ensure that it is set to 5.1 output and use the 'test' functionality to check that each channel is outputting properly.

What i suspect is happening is that you are only getting Left and Right of the full 5.1 signal... which would explain why you are not hearing dialog... which usually comes out of the center channel.

Anyway, try messing around with the control panel and let me know how you get on.
