Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Canada have close relations with England?

I'm not Canadian. I can't tell you. I'm just repeating the joke from Canadian friends. But hey, America has close ties with England and we still rag on them, so I kinda get it.

In a sense yes although to some they'd rarther it not be the case lol especially in Quebec where it's quite anti-England.
Canada is a former colony of England and since gaining it's independence still kept close ties with the English as part of the commonwealth and have a strong feeling towards the English motherland from their colonial past probably more so than many of our former colonies do.
In two world wars many Canadians gave their lives to protect England and i like to think part of that is because of the strong ties and a feeling that even if they are independent of England they were still born from it and have a strong feeling towards it.
If that influenced Bioware or not to make London such an important part of the game who knows.

Just to point out you don't ever see Big Ben in Mass Effect.

What's that in the background? A novelty sex toy?
That's St Stevens tower, Big Ben is the bell in the clock.
Back to the topic it is probably because London is the most multicultural city on Earth and the Reapers wanted to process us because of humans diverse genetics.

They follow all the normal foreshadowing that there is some sort of critical thing in London--some sort of artifact, maybe--that the Reapers are after or that they are defending.
I thought this was going to be the original lynchpin of the epic ending--maybe a good explanation of why the reapers harvest organics or the key mechanism that activates the Citadel and properly destroys the Reapers without completely crippling galactic civilization.
It fits with a rumored leak of the "original ending" I read on here in which the Reapers specifically wanted humans for their genetic diversity or seomthing--ergo the human Reaper in ME2. It would also explain why the Reapers hit Earth first. But alas, we got none of that.
It's just one more reason to really hate the endings. We don't know why they wanted humans so badly, or why they were in London, or why they built a human reaper when the crawfish design seemed to be working fine for them. All of this is stuff that could have been tied up and wasn't. Instead we got the star-kid and to choose our final color...

Main reason I would assume going down a list of famous city's, NY and Paris are far to overused in disaster films, so I guess London is the next choice. I demand a codex page for the red phone boxes, I would assume they are extranet terminals? They are only really in the touristy bits these days, but who knows. Also the data pad that mentions fire houses should call them fire stations but who cares really lol

Yes I went there.
as a current resident in norway and therefore wannabe viking by association, i must protest this.
clearly shooting harbinger in the knee would only have relegated him to guarding the citadel.

Well played Sir, very well played.
When I pointed this out, on a recent visit to the Capital, to my gf and her kids I got called "a smug, sanctimonious git", but I appreciate what you did there.

I was more surprised, with it being England and everything, that we didn't see Reapers up on bricks with their tentacles nicked...

Or you can also look at it geographically because England can be considered as the center of the world sitting right on top of the GMT like that.
...but then again you can throw France and pretty much every other country that falls on GMT too.
Too much international relations/geopolitics?
