Because London has five airports and the Reapers needed all those airstrips to fly people in.

Right, because flying people all over makes much more sense than putting it over a large landmass (a continent instead of an island), and just carting people in.  So much easier to harvest them from across an ocean!

They follow all the normal foreshadowing that there is some sort of critical thing in London--some sort of artifact, maybe--that the Reapers are after or that they are defending.

Hey, if *you* had been out in Dark Space for 50,000 years, wouldn't you really want a good English hard cider and maybe some fish and chips? :?

"I" would go to Edinburgh to have my Haggis wi neeps and tatties, plus a can of Irn-bru B)

Not even the reapers can work out what Irn-Bru actually tastes of, y'know... :P

Also, How did they know that the magic beam of light would take them to the citadel ? What if it took them to a harvesting facility or something ? did they send scouts ? if they did why not send more and use the army as a distraction...

*Sigh* So many problems

Because the red phone booths you see everywhere are in fact a secret plot device that will be revealed in the unmasked ending we will pay 10 $ for. I mean seriously, why would they have all these phone booths in the twenty second century - and why are they all impervious to Reaper damage?

I was wondering how long it would be before someone would bring this up.  You know not everything has to be centered around American cities you know.

Big Ben is intact. Obviously the Reapers have some appreciation for fine architechture and put their beam in sight of their favored monument.

Thus the real reason why the Reapers continue the cycle.
Eventually, organics will figure out how to make Irn-Bru. If this continues somebody might actually work out what Irn-Bru is, therefore, organics must be killed before this is discovered and the universe ends. Because no one must know.

The Reapers noticed that all other alien invaders have anti-monument lasers, and failed.

And... OMG, the injection tubes in ME2 were pumping something bright orange into the human reaper!

The cycle is the fault of the Scottish! McReapers!

Oh and the real reason the Reapers don't topple big ben's tower and stand gingerly over parliament: Maggie Thatcher's ghost promised to give them hell if they did.

I would have loved to seen a Mass Effect 3 box tied to a weather balloon knocking about the final mission.

Well I guess England would make sense generally, it's an island which would make it easy to defend... Which I doubt is the reason they chose London, seeing as they have massive lasers. Then again it also makes less sense since they'd have to bring in people and corpses to the island. Why not position it it like in mainland Europe then?

Well, they probably put a transporter up on Earth to make taking corpses to "harvest" on the Citadel easier. It would make sense to build it in a more developed area where there would be a lot of corpses, and London is a random large city, so they built it there.

Who knows? The game devs wanted to bring the final fight in mass effect to something familiar, something we can easily recognize and feel emotion toward, and apparently London was their favorite choice.

Also, London never gets destroyed in disaster movies. It's always New York or Tokyo or Los Angeles or whatever.

Well, Halo 2 Earth mission was deliberately set somewhere "fresh" - in Kenya.

Well the point remains that if you want an efficient ferrying of troops and human Reaper goo fuel to the Citadel, an island isn't exactly the best place to do it.
Sure Reapers can fly, but husks are land bound and so are humans. A location in a large landmass with a huge population, such as China, would be more logical.

Why did the Reapers choose to focus their attention around London in order to build their big sky-lift thingy? I can't remember any particular reason being given. Did the Reapers just randomly point at some cool spot on the map and go wild? Just curious really since I'm wondering if I missed something.

I also found it a bit off Big Ben was perfectly fine.

Before you go to Earth in a talk with Anderson he speaks about something 'Important' that the reapers seemed to be doing in London.

Something that we never really found out, what was 'Important'.

Unless the beam was the 'Important' thing in London and nothing else.  I was kinda hoping for a 'Reason@ why they were there, as if there was a significance to London.
