I was a paragon for my first playthrough. Starting a renegade playthrough this weekend. So, basically, I didn't punch either the reporter or Gerrel.

I was a paragon and I punched pretty much everyone :D I don't think punching annoying characters gives you a lot of renegade points.

Hands down punching Admiral Gerrel. He elected to throw his allies under a bus for victory. Craven and untrustworthy . . . a beating is the least of what he deserved.

The reporter is just another crappy journalist who is looking for good ratings. She's a pest but I'd much rather outwit her than hit her.

Gerrel deserves much more than a punch, but damn it felt good.

Gerrel all the way.

The paragon interrupt for the reporter was actually kind of moving, you see that she's really just emotionally distraught by what's happening on Earth. The ability to reach out to her and provide some comfort by assuring her that you are doing everything in your power to save your planet and your species from extinction... it was very human.

Gerrel, however, was a douche and deserved a lot worse than what he got.

Gerrel, no hesitation. I pulled it so fast. I was so angry at him.

Punching Gerrel was fantastic. Punching the reporter is just crude. The woman was upset about Earth and was just venting in her own way. I had sympathy for her.

I never punched the reporter (well, once for fun on a late renegade playthrough), as she has the right to ask her questions and defeating her with words is so much better.
Gerrel on the other hand just broke an agreement we had, risking the lives of me and my crew, one of them a fellow Admiral of his. A punch is adequate.

Even for my true Paragon character, the emotions of the moment got the better of me and I lost it on the admiral. POW you SOB!!

Funny enough, I was more pissed at him for firing on the gigantic geth dreadnaught because I was ABSOLUTELY CONFIDENT that I could win the Geth over and broker a peace eventually.... and goldarnit, that thing would have been useful!

Oh, and TALI, GARRUS, LEGION, and I were on it at the time you bastard!! Not even a heads up?

As for the reporter... I paragon interrupted her and was very pleasantly surprised at Shepards words and her reaction. She finally broke down, and eventually did an amazing story that rallied more people to our cause.

But the thing I'm most proud of?
My Real Life paragon interrupt of donating to Child's Play to both raise awareness of our opinion on the endings in a positive manner as well as help out a bunch of sick kids.

WIN/WIN Paragon + 10

Gerrel. Punching the reporter went as a daily routine. Though I was laughing my *** off when she dodged my first strike :D

I didn't punch the reporter. Punching Gerrel felt great though.

I will say this for Bioware the Gerel thing did get me thinking about how context sensitive our first impressions of people can be.

For instance at Tali's trial, I found Gerel to be and intelligent and reasonable person and Koris to be a reactionary jerk not worth the time of day. Yet this time around the opinions of them were the total opposites. Koris kamikazed his ship to help protect the flotilla then died covering his crews' escape. Gerel meanwhile proved to be an idiot of epic proportions.

Definitely punching gerrel.

Does the reporter really punch Shepard if you miss the interrupt?

Garrel. No question. Kalistah was worried, scared, and doing the only thing she knew how to do in order to deal with that. Garrel was just a plain old ruthless idiot. The first part my renegade Sheps could handle. The second, not so much.

Even as a Paragon I punched both. Reporter was definitely more satisfying.

Punching Gerrel was in some ways even more satisfying than stabbing Kai Leng or shooting Udina. Definitely one of my top moments in the game.

Only if you punched her before I think. My Paragon Shep who had spent the last two games verbally owning her actually ended up recruiting her to the cause for a whole +10 War Assets.

gerrel. I just picked renegade with the reporter to make my scars more apparent. Gerrel was legitimate anger.

Punching Gerral. The reporter thing is funny, but not nearly as satisfying as putting Gerral in his place.

So has anyone tried both punching and not punching Gerral to see if theres any significant difference keeping him around?

There isn't much of a difference. He just leaves the ship on his own, to get away from the 'softer' admirals. And you didn't get to punch him. My advice: Don't do not do it. Feels WAY to good to just let it go by.

I have never ever punched the reporter, seemed kind of childish to hit an unarmed civilian just for being annoying. Punching Admiral Gerrel, however, was ridiculously satisfying!

Oh I punched him without hesitation and kicked his ass off the ship in my first play through, I was just wondering if being more diplomatic would lead to something worthwhile.

Gerrell got punched. The reporter...eh, the paragon interrupt was just what was needed.
