Someone else might have gotten it wrong.
He dies to cure it, or he dies failing to.

Sacrifice is the theme of the game. No matter how well you make your decisions, sacrifices have to be made.
True, but you are able to ease the tensions between the Geth and Quarians and save them both and have them both fight with you against the Reapers.
So I was wondering if the same could have been down with the Salarians and Krogan.

If you let Wreave stay in charge of the Krogan and kill Mordin, you can get both factions loyal to you.

So no matter what option you choose, Mordin ALWAYS dies?

i had killed wrex in ME1, lied to Eve twice and then used renegade/paragon dialogue to convince Mordin to sneak away and help build the crucible. everyone (including krogans) was happy until the end.
Yeah, but they're only "happy" on a false basis. They don't know that they aren't cured and that the Krogans are still doomed to death as a species. But, then again, with an ending like that... doesn't really matter, does it?

On the other hand, Krogen are jerks who don't really deserve to be cured. The majority of them have learned nothing. Even Wrex, on the brief car ride to the mission brings up the "New Krogen Empire". So, what? That leaves Eve. And she's of such delicate condition, she can die at any moment.
The Average Krogen is like Wreav, not Wrex and definitly not Eve. You stop the trucks and the only Krogen on the planet that doesn't want to instantly kill Morden is Eve/Wrex. The rest of them are chanting for his blood! You can't honestly think the two of them will change the course of their species behavioral patterns. The Salarians are right. The Krogen where wronged, but it's too dangerous and too costly to fix.
I'm sorry, Morden. I can't let you do that.
