So if the ending sequence was chosen purely to encourage speculation from the fanbase, does that mean I essentially paid money for some form of digital billboard?

Well, I loved the game, including the endings. Can't say I agree with the hysteria at all.

There's plenty of science-fiction with endings that ambiguous, there's certainly nothing wrong with that. It's up to us to ponder the meaning and consequences of each decision, and that also is not unusual in literature. Not everything needs to be spoonfed to the players.

And I certainly like that there is no super-happy ending. There is value in having a bittersweet ending. Considering the entire theme of ME3 is heroic sacrifice, it'd be poor writing if a fully happy ending was even possible.

Mind you, I'd have enjoyed more time to discuss things with the Catalyst, and distinct cutscenes for each ending, but overall I am satisfied. The entire endgame is great, from the strike against Cerberus to the final cutscene. London, the FOB, and the final talk between Shepard and Anderson, stand out as excellent moments in the trilogy.

Thank you for the excellent work, Bioware.

It was not bitter-sweet. It was bitter with a side of death. Nothing good came of anything. All of your choice gone. I would have sat back and watched my fleet fight the reapers over putting the galaxy in a worst state.

Yea its this is the worst ending I have ever seen in a video game. After three games of beating the odds, Shepard  and everyone else dies. This is with maxed War Assets. Why bother playing the other two titles to build a new shepard? He'll die anyways and everyone with him. The LI is pointless, because why even having one when you'll end up dead anyways. Its not bitter sweet or grimdark, its just a lame everyone ends up dead ending. So no matter what you do the reapers win.  At least make an ending where all that work for pargon or LI ending means something. Keep good on your promises of choices. If not, well this will be my last Bioware game.  I won't support a company that lies to get customer's  money.

Some of you people are such childs.

For the record, they do not own you anything. It's their imagination and talent that brought us the Mass Effect series and everyone has had a lot of fun with the series. It is their right to end the trilogy as they see fit.

Should they with the please the fans and make DLC alternative endings, it would another sign that they care for their customers, but they are not required to provide you with everything you want.

You should learn some civility and not to insult people that you don't agree with, before claiming they are acting like children.  My problem is with the promotion of this title. If I knew they would kill everything off, then I would have just rented the game an saved my $80 for something else. As a customer, I have the right to express a complaint, in fact I baught the right to do so. Here is a deal for you, pay me $80 bucks and I'll not post anything bad, otherwise stay out of it.

Actually they do owe people if they are going to spin bull crap hype and promises, then not deliever. It is not childish to get angry at false advertising of a product and demand it be fixed.

They told us we'd get one thing. They lied. I've invested money into the series for what they told me I'd get. They owe us what we payed for.

I agree, if people buy a game because BW promise something and then we don't get what they promised to us... :(

The ending was perfect. It does not need to be changed. It makes sense and it ties up the game quite nicely. And, there aren't any plot holes like people are claiming- plot holes can only exist in a world with rules, and therefore a plot hole would be a violation of those rules. Considering the people who wrote the ending are the same ones who make those rules, the perceived plot holes are simply a manifestation of people's misunderstanding of the ending. If you look at Mass Effect: Deception, the book, it was written by an outside writer, and therefore there are legitimate plot holes. ME3 is different because the writers are the same people who invented the franchise in the beginning. It's okay to admit to not liking the ending subjectively (ie. it rubbed you wrong), but to conjure up "plot holes" and to claim that the ending didn't tie up any loose ends is simply an attempt to make the argument seem more clear-cut black and white, which is not the best approach. The writers and creators knew what they were doing and know what they are doing now.

Just a side note about the Indoctrination Theory - never in the history of Reaper indoctrination has someone who is indoctrinated hallucinated while being indoctrinated (never in the games, never in the books, never in the comic books). So, when Shepard is obviously indoctrinated while talking to the Illusive Man (when he shoots Anderson), under the Indoctrination Theory he would be indoctrinated while indoctrinated. Kind of like an Inception dream within a dream? Doesn't make a lot of sense. Additionally, 'The Final Hours of Mass Effect 3' book debunks the Indoctrination Theory quite well.

Overall, just because Bioware presented the story differently than what people expected doesn't mean they are wrong.

I am guessing the next me3 dlc will be a colour explosion pack. Now you can blow the relays and get magenta, orange, brown, purple and for those of you who get 100% paragon or Renegade, a rainbow effect.

Indeed I can't stress enough how amazing the game was... until the last 10 minutes. Just... such a great game, and then to get an ending that retroactivly destroys all my desire and appreciation of the entire franchise... blarg...

So ya the game was so awesome and then... hrrk

Favorite moment of all time though? When LEGION attained full on sentience and then turned to shepard and said he had to die to allow the Geth to ascend with him... I lost it.

The final hours thing said that the didn't go with indoctrinatin as a gameplay mechanic, they never said that it wasn't part of the story.

Those who chose green are so screwed as those who let Shepard die in the ending of Mass Effect 2, but ultimately, are also so screwed as those who chose any of the other two endings of Mass Effect 3, ie. surrendered to a instantly "Reaperized" Universe via space Magic, or stranded in an hopeless and almost levelled galaxy via the huge chain of Mass Relay explosions...

Point taken, however, I am still adamantly against the idea of Indoctrination affecting Shepard this late in the game  and after the fact.

And how would you get that with the three current endings? I'm not saying Indoc is for sure, but the current endings leave none of that possible.

Don't know, don't care.  I just want it.

And I don't want the Indoctrination ending.

It's poor writing and a terrible idea.

I wouldn't see it as poor writing.  If done right it could be an internal struggle that shows Shepards resolve is too strong for the reapers.  He is a exceptional human as we know, he could be the one who could fight it off somehow.  What we've seen could all be some metaphorical fight going on in his head while he's wandering around doing what harbinger wants him to do. I dunno, I'm not someone who gets paid to write, bioware could make it work in a quality way.  I mean with all that skill you think they could at least shoot and make it 50% of the time =p

I've told about 15 people so far, not to buy this title due to the endings. Only two of them didn't listen to me, then beat the game only to call and say " dam all that work for different colors? What a ripp off!" Then traded it in an went back to COD.

I felt awkward after beating the game. The same kind of awkwardness you get when someone farts in a elevator. That feeling of sadness, desperation and utter hate for the offender.

Just because bioware made the rules, it doesnt make them incapable of plot holes. The plot holes exist because bioware went against the established lore of the game. And then added a large amount f improbabilities such as the normandy travelling through a relay with squad members inside it even though both the ship and squad were fighting the reapers just moments ago, so unless they were running from the fight, that is a legitimate plot hole in all its ill conceived glory.

In my interpretation of the plot, Shepard's indoctrination could have started in the "Arrival" events, with the exposition to Object Rho, and in the initial events of Mass Effect 3, the kid in the beginning being nothing more than a construct of the Reapers implanted in Shepard's mind, appearing in a pseudo-real form as in the shuttle explosion, and in the dark, haunted dreams that Shepard had throughout the story.

Indeed I tell them the same thing, the game is great but Do not buy until they fix it or say they won't. If its won't don't buy it ever as it will ruin your love for the series. It just hurt so bad, but ya I got it on midnight on march 5th and played it straight, cause I am a nut, and then began warning people.

The bolded is the crux of the problem.  It's so hideously ambiguous that it allows logic to stretch so far that it makes the Half Life/Portal theories seem reasonable by comparison.

Hmpff,
i guess they were just to lazy to write some 50 different epilogues, considering how many choices you made during all 3 games. Instead we get some video that explains nothing, like what your companions do after the war, what happens to the Fleet and Hackett, do they survive at all and get stranded in Sol space since the mass relays are gone, centuries away from home like in Star Trek Vojager, and so on.
It serves just as a stupid cliffhanger for dlc and perhaps some Me4. It´s EA after all. they ll milk a brand till it dies .
Still very disappointed how you ruined one of the best made games of all times at the very end !

Favourite moment was Thane's death. It had a small setting and little to no music but it was one of the most emotional and tear jerking moments of the series. As for the ending, I would just like some closure and more variety on the endings. It doesn't matter if it's happy, depressing or tragic as long as it varies and have closure instead of just three endings with little differences between them and are all ambiguous. If you are releasing a DLC to fix the ending, please make it free because we already paid money for the full game, some paid more for the Collector's Edition like I did and it would be completely unfair and an absolute betrayal of trust to charge us extra just for something that we should have got when we bought the game.
