Hated the ending to BioWare intergalactic epic Mass Effect 3? A potential remedy is arriving this summer. The video game studio and publisher Electronic Arts have announced Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut, a free download that "will give fans seeking further clarity to the ending of Mass Effect 3 deeper insights into how their personal journey concludes."It will be available this summer for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Actually I think this was probalby the only solution. I also accept it. Now they can fix what they rushed and not look like they are giving in or selling out...although I think they did that already with the current ending.
As long as it's free I'm satified with their attempt on this. Hopefully the feedback that has been given helps them give us a better product.
So all Bioware is going to do is explain their ending/Reaper god child nonsense.
It still dosent change the fact that player choise no longer matters, we do everything right in the ME games and we still dont have any control over the outcome and shep still ends up dead, regardless. Althrough I got the end were shep takes a breath so I dont know how that will work out.
The only real silver lining here is that its FREE. I can only imagine the ****storm if EA/Bioware tried make this pay DLC. Its like I called it Bioware are going to stick with their poor endings and just try and explain them.
So lets recap: Its free, player choise still dosent matter. its stil the poor as hell endings with more explanation and Bioware really havent listened at all.

We complained about the inconsistencies in the ending, but also, that it is outright narrative BS. Any public school student in the first year could write a more logical and better ending, if he played the game just once - or even watchend someone playing the game.
Artistic integrity is not present anymore, when corporate interests influence it. So there is nothing to protect.

Sorry to say but we are stuck with Star Child, that's just going to have to be something we live with, but saying its an extended cut gives them the freedom to change the motivation of the Star Child and the Reapers if they wish. Just like in movies, sometimes extend cuts have complexity different endings than the hollywood version.

Yep, it all comes down to the ending was the best they could do. No clever Indoctrination theory that was fan motivated.

I'd ask for loosing the godboy too but I expect getting both is probably impossible (pure crap). And maybe dumping the 'grampa' scene, as it's the most useless scene in any videogame EVER.

The part with legion and Tali before Legion distributes himself to the rest of the geth to make them true AI's was pretty good aswell. Both of these involves loosing people but somehow what feelt good was that you managed to make a difference for those other characters by cleaning their homes instead of myown
As for the ending, the part with the catalyst seems out of character thats when I realy started to dislike the ending, it's hard to see someone like Shepard just bow down and trust the enemys good intentions without questioning it... What makes him think he can trust it anyway??? The reapers have been lying and manipulating people for millions of years.
As for the overall mission in london I would have liked to have some interaction elements during the mission that involved sabotaging the enemys communication and coordination as a means of helping the rest of the hammer forces. The only help I could provide was shooting tech zombies. Also it couldn't have hurt to give a few inspiring words to the troops outside the topbrass meeting, to get their spirits up.
Maybe adress all the groundtroops through that comofficer, least the people that got the time to listen.
As I see it the ending was ok, but it was nowhere near as good as the rest of the game. The end should have been the best part, even if its grim and dark it should be where Shepard give all he has to muster even if it isn't enough to save everyone. I know it's hard to create the perfect ending, I doubt I would succed on my own. But it feels like something was missing and there was a lack of closure aswell.
Also, sometimes I wonder if it was part of Biowares artistic idea to force Shepard into destroying the geth and EDI after they gained true AI statues and true life, not to mention being allies that are fighting and dying by your side. Mass extinction of an allied race? That seems worse than Hitler, least he wasn't allied to the jews he tried to extinguish. Or is that why synthesis was there? also whenever a Reaper tells you there is a better solution it seems impossible to trust them... They have been manipulating organics into fighting for them for millions of years like the illusive man. How can you trust them when they tell you, you have to jump into an energy beam that will kill you or grab hold of two electrical conductors that will execure you like an elctricchair... OR Blowing up a powerrelay that will likely destroy the citadel, crucible and the superweapon you just built. There is noone trustworthy to support options given by the reaper's master.
Then again I guess Shepard had no coice but to wait for his internal bleadign to end his existance while people in Sword and hammer and shield were dying. But realy... no options to question the catalyst? or it's motives? it's obviously in shepards mind since that's where the child projection commes from.
Sorry if it's too long but I can't wrap my mind around this weird ending. The rest of the game was incredible though
Despite my objections to the design of the ending to ME3 im looking forward to future content and game in the mass effect universe... How earth survives the 7 billion ton space station impact is beyond me though... It's bad enough with all that other debris. Anyway, Good Luck explaining how it works out and how the different endings actualy works out and how the end of days on earth is avoided (citadel crashing). Adding a new piece of crucible equipment that stops the overload from destroyign the citadel and earth along with it? seeing bigben survive the pulse meens little if all ends with a planet smashing impact.
Sorry if it was too long. Great game, weird ending.

Exactly, it maybe really cheap but they might be able to swing that now, but I have hope the picture on the article shows Shepard fighting possibly Harbinger on Earth. That was one of the biggest fan dissapontments that I noticed on the forums. So they can now exlplain why the squad members leave. Put in a part that explains why Anderson beats Shepard to the Citadel panel...and even put in a better back story of why the Star Child is doing the "Yo Dawg" stuff or better yet take that motivation out completly or improve on it.
Main thing is this now gives them the freedom to put in how the galaxy, squadmates mates and love intrest end up. They might even take the Normandy crashing out altogether.
But I think we also have to accept that Shepard is going to die no matter what.

Now, this could just be bad design but why have it there at all? MAYBE it's deliberate. Backwards writing is another common image in dreams.

Yet waiting for PAX announcement tomorrow, but if it's this, free extended cut, i won't mind as long as it explains few events in this big mess in the end. Not what a lot of fans wanted, but it's still show BW actually cares about complaints.

Yeah it appears Bioware blew it all with crappy writing at the end and they are just going to keep defending it with the Artistic Integrity BS.
Its sad, ME should have been great, buts its finished now Bioware/EA can lap up all the suck up press reviews they want, its not the press that buy the DLC or your games Bioware, at least not in the numbers you need.
I wont be buying any DLC for a game, that the ending ruins as a whole. I wont be buying Bioware games in the future, I dont trust them to stick to their word and frankly they dont care, but they will when EA see the numbers for Bioware's new DLC and games fall. Keep hiding behind the Artitsic Integrity card, I'm sure it will pay the bills.

I don't think my Shepard died from killign the reapers... Thoguh I can't see how he can survive on either the explodign citadel or the soon to be SMASHED earth.... hit by 7 billion ton of material that wont burn in the atmosphere because it can't even be destroyed by deadnaught mainguns that fires on it continuously for hours.... That makes me wonder how the citadel can break appart at all if it's so indestructible....

I loved Mass Effect 3. I had played through both Mass Effect 1- (On steam) and Mass Effect 2 (On my PS3 My main gaming platform) And I loved it until the ending. And not only was the ending terrible, but it was so awful that I can't bring myself to play the game through a second time. I started the game plus mode and got to mars. That's it. Because every time I consider playing again I just remember what the end that I am working towards is. And the rest of the game can't make up for it. If a new ending isn't released I'll probably sell it back to gamestop. I don't like holding onto games that give me bad memories, or that I never intend to play again.
I'll hang on to Mass Effect 2 though. I'm convinced it happened in a different universe.
Unfortunately I feel the same way. ME3 was a great game and I want to play it again and beat it on insanity, but I feel haunted by the ending. It's tough to get up the motivation to go through it all again when I know it's completely pointless. The entire series is so epically amazing and so completely ruined in the final 10 minutes.

It's only indestructible from the outside when it's closed. The explosion was from the inside.
It makes no difference, it was all a dream.
