I loved this game so much and it was so emotionally gripping and amazing. The whole genophage mission was one of the most well written, heartwrenching and beautiful things I have ever played out in a video game. The scene on Palaven with Victus looking up at the burning planet, stopping Kai Leng from assassinating the council members the romance the interactions..everything was more then I could have ever hoped for.

...then as usual. Get to the end and spend a day scratching my head trying to figure out what I just saw. I had heard about the ending too and was willing to be optimistic, to take the tragic end. I was already feeling so much wear and tear on Shepard that I was willing to even accept an end where she died outright. The whole while I kept waiting for something about Dark Energy to get mentioned or somehow getting enough war assets might change things-- but than nothing.

I'm not disappointed because the ending wasn't happy, I'm disappointed because it was unsatisfactory and made all the work I'd done and every mission I'd loved so much throughout the game utterly pointless. Thankfully my imagination has helped me come to terms with it and I just made up my own ending and theory for what happened, but I am having huge buyers remorse. I should have waited until this game was cheaper. I could have accepted it then, but paying 80 dollars to have to imagine up my own ending? Not happy. I won't be buying any DLCs for ME3. I'll keep the copy and I may replay, but I won't recommend it to anyone to buy at the full price.

Not a bad game at all, but that ending just really tanks it for me. I'm more sad and disappointed than angry about it...and kicking myself for buying the collector's when I could have got regular for way cheaper. Mostly buyers remorse over here. I should have waited and rented it or borrowed from a friend, there is very little replay value for me.

 Another thought:

The reason the ending hurts so much is BECAUSE the rest of the game is so damn good.

This isn't Star Wars Episode 1 where the moment the opening scroll-text starts you're like..."okay, what?" and then your face falls from there until you're grimacing over jar jar binks and then going cross-eyed that anakin is a vigin birth, etc. That movie died from moment 1.

Mass Effect 3 was nearly perfect until the last 5 minutes - heck, i think even the last 5 minutes might be perfect, too, IF they're part of some larger whole - something more that gets started right after they end.

And I have a hard time NOT viewing the entire game in light of the ending. Part of what rocks the entire series is how Shepard's story plays out - how people get to craft their own space epic out of what they're given. Until the ending, the possibilities are many and incredible. But the possibilities shrink down at the ending so swiftly it's just painful. I guess we could see that as realistic - Shepard got hit by Plot Shrapnel and died in the final push. But that's hardly a story to replay.

I guess that's my thought. The game was amazing - IS amazing - but it didn't really seem to 'end' to me. The ending seemed like a red herring to stall the REAL ending. So until we know more, I find it almost impossible to answer the question.

This reply would honestly be too long to say my favorite moments. There are so many things done right in ME3 and the Mass Effect series in general. Its sad that just 10min can almost ruin all of it.

Although I do wish they would have done more with the romances. Not just the scenes but instead really building on having to make that difficult choice between Shepard's two LI. Instead we get, "pick her or her, ok move on". Thats it. Kinda dissapointing when they were promising consequences for having two LI.

Some of my favourite parts were teasing a drunk Ashley with Joker's singing/fire alarm, shoot bottles on top of the Presidium with Garrus, punching Khalisah Bint Sinan al-Jilani again... Some really, really great moments.

And seeing as how I only just finished the game last night, I'm still working through how I feel about the ending. Hoping you guys have something big in store for us.

Why did the 'master' of the Reapers have to be something that was never alluded to before? Imagine if the Keepers were the true masters, watching and harvesting organic life for a greater purpose... no, maybe not the best ending, but it makes more sense.

Instead, we got a child that doesn't understand the concept of togetherness.

they hinted somthing about the reapers not being the *masters of the cycle* 1 time near the end i think i dont remember it well tho.
correct me if i am wrong

Yeah if you talk the to Rannoc reaper he sounds indoctrinated himself. He responds in oracular macros.

i think when you get to the beacon they say something two

This isnt damage control, its just trying to divert everyones attention to what they liked in the game instead of the big krogan standing on the room....

Thing is, its not working >_>

I'm just surprised no one at bioware could foresee how badly this ending would go down :/

but on a lighter note <3 the m shep/kaidan romance, I especially like how it isn't over done ( he never say's I love you or goes too sappy) which actually fits the relationship dynamic ( at least as I perceived it) and gives it a sense of realism

The above posters caught many of the ones I missed I honestly couldn't under stand the 'ending controversy' while I was still playing. "This is *E*P*I*C* how could the ending be that ... " and then it was 'that bad'

anyhow.. DAMMIT!

I didn't mean to begin this post with another complaint about the ending. Really I didn't please take in this instance as praise for the other 99% of the game.

...

...
Sorry. I want to just just how much a loved the game because I really did love it. I WANT to praise you... but the ending... I just... Can't.

(praying that you guys are the biggest bunch of trolls EVER... here's for Indoc/hallucination Theory)

Absolutely loved the game. If the theories on indoctrination are correct, then it's an incredibly brave move by BioWare to do something so unusual and special.

Apart from the intro which I still feel is weak I really loved this game, and for several days it felt incredible playing it. Everything I had done before and everything I did seemed to matter. I really tried to complete everything and not rush to get a good first playthrough.
Being railroaded into one of three horrible choices was a total let-down. And then realising that the only difference in the ending of a second playthrough would be to only get one or two of the horrible choices instead of three.
A game with no replay value is not was I expected from Bioware. And with no replay value and only bad endings I certainly won't be buying any dlc for this game. I have no wish to prolong the end to death and misery.
Favorite part? Probably the goodbye scene between Shepard and Kaidan. Very intense I thought.

What I hate is that it is now coming out that this wasn't a mistake they knew it wa s bad ending and did it any way because they thought it would be a laugh to "put the fans in their place". Do they not understand that with out us they would not have a job? That it is our money that pay them? And that we don't have to buy their stuff? Listen Bioware I am done with you the only way you can get me back is to fix this and give us the endings you told us were coming. You went out of your way to rip me off for a laugh and I will not forget that.

On the whole, the series was filled with so many moments its hard to funnel them down. As many other have stated before, its hard to come to terms with the concept that so many of these pivotal moments we've had along the journey funnel down to a relatively limited/bleak outcome. The series has always been about fighting against those impossible odds. Fighting against a rogue Spectre when no one but your close friends believed you, racing to the base of a seemingly unstoppable force to rescue your crew, pulling together an elite group for a suicide mission only to come out unscathed and battle hardened, turning the tides on Palavan, changing the future and giving hope to the Krogan, brokering peace between the Quarians and the Geth, recovering from the catastrophic loss on Thessia... Everything seemed to build on the idea that, with hope and a little luck, there'd be a light at the end of the tunnel for Shep and crew. Even that last charge down the hill, I never stopped believing that Shepard was going to make it back to Rannoch to build Tali that house, Harbinger be damned.

There are a lot of great moments in 3 that have been building since the first game, and its these moments I'll remember more than the last ten minutes.

- Mordin's story from start to finish, and the end of the genophage. I love every minute on Tuchanka, and the ridiculous Krogan social protocols. Shepard yelling "THERE'S A REAPER IN MY WAY WREX" during the battle on Tuchanka made me laugh out loud. Watching Mordin sing the last few lines of his song before the explosions, and knowing he'd redeemed himself was a really satisfying moment. Sad, but satisfying.

- Finally reconciling the Quarians and Geth, and watching their new relationship made me happy as well. I'd wondered how they'd re-adapt to their homeworld and it was a neat solution incorporating the Geth that set my mind at ease.

- Seeing the united fleets arrive at Earth and open fire on behalf of those upstart humans that everyone once resented. Chills.

- Shep and Tali's story. Their exchange before going one on one with a reaper on Rannoch ('I love you.' 'Keelah selai.'). Finding her beachfront property, her reaction to the Lazarus videos and Shepard's fears about his synthetics, the last conversation in London. Keeping all that in the back of my mind as I ran headlong at Harbinger, twenty feet away from the beam.

- Legion saying "I know"

- The run to the beacon. My heart pounding as the people around me get picked off one at a time and wondering if I should take cover like on Tuchanka. The gunship throwing itself at breakneck pace towards the beacon to buy the ground troops a few more feet.

- Liara's gifts to Shepard. Creating his 'legacy' and sending it out into space, and that final moment in London. I felt bad for breaking up with her, I doubt any of my exes would do the same :x

- Renegade moment with Kai Leng. That's for Thane. You can't be a paragon all the time. And I think you could argue that was still a paragon moment in some contexts...

Everyone's experience is made more personal because we've had so many choices, options, chances, successes and failures up to this point. Maybe Shep was destined for one ending all along, but I still would have liked to see more variation in the resolution. My takeaway is going to be that Harbingers indoctrination attempt failed, and Shep snapped awake. I believe that he makes that push, and finishes the fight. I'd like some sort of confirmation, but I don't expect it at this point. Still, I would have liked to have built that house on Rannoch. He's destroyed enough buildings the last few years. It's time for him to build one.

Mostly everything but the end. but i have to say headbutting that damned reporter who's name i have somehow forgotten. only thing i didn't like other than the ending was that i had to kill morinth. Thane, Mordin, and legions death scenes hit me hard in a good way. And getting revenge on Kai leng for killing thane felt so rewarding. I think i actually shouted "This is for Thane you SOB!!!" when Shepard did

I loved nearly every moment of the game, from the starting screen until the end... (Garrus' fun on the citadel will allways be a great memory, as will Tali landing on Rannoch) But I also have difficulties with the endings... (And I normally do not make a fuss over things I know I can't change, but I feel this is worth it...) I have only 2 remarks :
1) Why destroy the Mass Relays? It's the thing that pained me most... Now what will come of the galactic community? Is everybody now isolated to their system? One of the things I liked most about ME was this strong & diverse galactic community, and now that falls apart? This made me very depressed...
2) This also bothered me, but to less extent : what happened after the battle? What happened to the races? I could live with no news on Shepards team, but without the relays, what will happen? Can any race truly recover? Is the entire galactic fleet now trapped in the Sol system?

I could easily ignore 2, and leave it up to my (and other people's) imagination, but then at least I'd like to have seen the relays saved... They were the connections holding the mass effect universe together...
You created a great universe, like no other...
And without the relays, that universe is no more...
If I could have one wish, it would be that the relays could be saved. That way, at least there could be hope. It's all I'd ask for.

Sincerely,
a fan.

"I don't need luck, I have Ammo." and tuchanka/rannoch ends with my happy fluffy bunnies paragon femshep. Also that they let you talk to everyone on the Way to the end, regardless of my opinion of said end. To be honest, everything up until the Choice and Catalyst AI was awesome to me.

That kind of surprised me too. I know they probably wanted to keep the storyline under wraps but that was an objectively derivitive and creatively wretched ending. I can't imagine anybody greenlighting it without having to shout a whole room of play testers down.

Yeah, well if they change their minds that is (which I hope)... Otherwise it will be noted in the Guiness Book of records for the fastest devaluation of an IP in recorded history.

The game is excellent. The ending is embarrassing.

One of my favorite moments was:
"Uh oh, watch out. There goes the next Shadowbroker."
"I think he was muttering 'T'soni'."
"Not funny."

I understand if this thread is an attempt to take our minds off that ending, but I actually was doing fine with that myself. Then I saw this thread and remembered, "oh yah...'endings..'"

Have to say, even as simple a response as this beats the hell out of silence or the condescension that's been directed at so many of us the past few days by the gaming media. Thanks for at least listening, Chris. As for the best moment? Hmm, the end of the Quarians was pretty bad (well-done, just personally horrifying), but I have to say that being at Thane's deathbed was a real tear-jerker *sniff*.
