Here's the default.

Image IPB

I think the issue is that the entire default forehead is farther back. If you look closely, there is clipping going on along all the hair edges on the left side of her head in the custom femshep version. In the default, the hairline by the part is much lower on the forehead. Why does Bioware do this to us?

On a different note, does anyone understand how the me3appearance files work? How do we make appearance files that only include some things, like darker eyeshadow and lip color, but not other things, like hair color?

Yeah, that's what I saw for the default head too.  Now if only they made the default fem shep look as good as the art then we wouldn't have a problem. lol (or atleast I wouldn't.)

I was thinking of messing around with the vectors to see if I could narrow down the area of that spot on the forehead, but I think that would drive me up a wall atm. LOL *too OCD for her own good sometimes.*

@Arty You are right! =)

@strat You can do that, give me the values and I'll tty to lower it. Bu no promisses, ok? =)

I emailed Rick (Gibbed developer) to see if he can add in Vertices importing and exporting. If he can, this would be very easy to fix, since the forehead is a simple shape.

I was also depressed when I saw the femshep trailer and realized she looked nothing like the concept art, which looked fantastic. The custom femshep I use looks more similar to the concept than does the default.

@Dizzig. I'd just focus on those weird areas circled in yellow. The larger clipping issue is really not that noticeable, and if you can figure out how to hide the artifacts of spot-adjusting it, that will work just as well.

The circled parts in the front of her head I can't do it without make a giant hole in her forehead. The other one strat is trying to fix.

Where can I find the meshes? Like BIOG bla bla bla. Its inside a file and I need the unreal texture viwer(I really don't know how to type this world, sorry! =/).

I'll see what I can do.  I think, for the most part, that I have the a rough guess at what numbers I should look out for the Y and Z vaules.  Y being around -2 to -5(ish) and Z being in the 17*.*** area.  Here's hoping I can find it. lol

Sweet, let me know if anything happens from that.

Yeah, it actually took a while for the concept art to grow on me (wasn't a big fan of it at first), but then I started to really like it......then I saw in game and went.....'That's a woman!? o.O'

Ok, this is what I have so far.

Image IPB

(split them into groups so they're easier to find.

379 / 380 / 381 / 382

395 / 396 / 397 / 398

414  / 415 / 416 / 417 / 418 / 419 / 420

457 / 458

468

478 / 479 / 480 / 481

486

I just changed all the X values to 0, just so I could see where it is on the face more easily....proabably should have gone with a lighter hair color. >.>

I'm still trying to figure out where that small corner of skin that's being stubborn and not letting me see where it is in the lines of numbers.....so many numbers. @_@ but  if you can figure it out before me then yay!

Also managed to get rid of most of this:

Image IPB

by changing X and Y to 0 of these #s: 362 / 363 / 364 / 365 / 366

Does anyone know how to change the eyelashes? I really hate my FemShep's eyelashes (her bottom ones are MASSIVE and flare out at the end in a really unnatural way), but I had no options with a similar eye shape. :/

Sorry if this isn't the right place to post this question...but I haven't found the answer anywhere else in regards to my problem:

I was planning on using the methods described in this thread to mod the face texture of my Mass Effect 3 FemShep (would love for her to have those freckles), but for whatever reason when I try to save a ME3 game file from my Xbox360 onto my USB, nothing happens - as in, when I take the USB back to my computer, no files are on it. I have already formatted this USB for my Xbox, and have successfully used it in the past to extract and mod Xbox files for Mass Effect 2.

Has anyone else had this problem? Or am I just missing something? :pinched:

i think that you're problem is that you need to use Xtaf USB explorer or Horizon to extract the save file to you're desktop. once you are done with that, you need to open up the save file itself with Modio and use it to extract the individual save that you want to mod. Of course from here you use Gibbed's ME3 Save mod.

The method for doing this is the same for ME2.  There were tutorials for what you need in those forums.

The specifics depend on what program you use. I use XPlorer and Modio. I think most folks use Xstaf and Modio.

Which meshes are you looking for? Female hair meshes and textures are in BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.pcc, including default and NPC hair.

Just wanted to know where to find it... What program do you use to open the files?

I'm using umodel for viewing, Gibbed (full version, not just save editor) for unpacking.

Ahh...I knew I was missing a step (forgot to extract with Xtaf). Thanks for the help!

Yeah, I was forgetting to run it through Xtaf first...Thanks so much for the help! And thanks for posting such a comprehensive guide to these mods! They worked perfectly. :)
However, after seeing it in-game I realized Default!FemShep's make-up is way too heavy for my FemShep, and I didn't like the way the eyebrows looked either...would it be possible just to have the freckled skintone without the extras? Or is it a package deal?

As far as I know, it's a package deal. The colors of the eyebrows, lips, and eyeshaow can be changed in the vectors and scalars sections. Use the guide up top for editing those things, but simply also use the default femshep textures.

You should make sure you use a dark color vector for the eyeliner (EyeShadow) with a scalar of .75-1. The custom eyelids have a slightly different shape that looks weird with the default texture and no eyeliner.

Yeah, that seems to be the case. I've been continuing to mess with it, and I guess Default!FemShep's face was made to be a "complete look". ;) ...Can't seperate the various parts. It just doesn't look good on my particular Shep because she's blonde and fairer-skinned, so all that dark make-up makes her look a tad...hooker-ish. XD Too bad they didn't just have the freckled complexion as an option to begin with, I think a lot of people would've liked that. Oh well, you can't heve everything in life. Thanks again for all your help and advice! I really appreciate it. :)

Here's my femShep: in ME2 I took the default and changed hair and eyecolor, and removed scars. What you see here is my recreation in ME3, which I think worked out very well.. so for those trying to get something that looks like the ME1/ME2 defaults, you might find this of interest:
