It's very much possible that along the way, when they realized an indoctrination sequence wasn't going to work, they instead opted to create a mysterious sequence which would cause much speculation which infers indoct . . . awe, who am I kidding :/

So it's an intentionally ****ty ending so there'd be "lots of speculation"? Am I reading that correctly?

Casey outside in an interview:
"Yeah, totally. Absolute closure. Answers to just about everything. Really conclusive."

Two minutes later back in the studio:
"You want to have this thing actually explain what's going on? People hate that. Remember Vigil? People hated Vigil. Get rid of that. The fans don't need to know this stuff."

Who the hell hated vigil? I want names! There's got to be like a whole 3 of them, all working for bioware no doubt.

"And even in November the gameplay team was still experimenting with an endgame sequence where players would suddenly lose control of Shepard's movement and fall under full reaper control. (This sequence was dropped because the gaemplay mechanic proved too troublesome to implement alongside dialogue choices)."

I believe that is the most important bit of information to take from this. It shows they intended to indoctrinate Shepard in that way, where you lose control completely. Mechanics are what prevented them from doing it THAT way, so THAT way was scrapped. Nowhere does it say indoctrination was scrapped.

Those notes sound an awful lot like he's planning something later...

Just saying.

Really? For me it looks like they made this crap willingly.

And they hope is that this problem will eventually go away, but they are starting to realize it won't.

They are in denial I'd say.

Well, they really might want to hurry up and address the fans now.

This is going to make everyone blow their stacks.

I just can't figure out what to think about this. Right now I just feel an overwhelming sense of disgust and alienation at this.

The very fact that we have to pay money to get a confirmation on what a collossal screw up the ending was is just distasteful in itself. The fact that it was intended to be this is just downright insulting.

On the upside, this has reinforced my determination to hold the line.

The indoctrination theory is still possible. I mean this is just one poorly written piece of notebook paper that couldn't be the only one.

All this does is show how they came up with the idea for the ending. It does NOT reveal anything planned for the future. All it shows is that the developers meant to create speculation in order to keep people interested in the game. But why? Why do that? Simple: they plan to truly explain what the ending REALLY means. BioWare surely has to know that you don't just create speculation out of thin air. The Mass Effect games are all about defeating speculation with cold-hard facts and epic plot twists. All this proves is that the developers created these endings in order to get the fans talking and begging for more.

And guess what? Talk we have. We have openly addressed our need for more. We have petitioned and raised money to prove how passionate we as a fanbase are. If that's what the devs wanted all along, to test our faith, than I think we have more than proven ourselves. I'm still going to hold the line, I'm still going to believe the theories, and I'm still waiting for my ending. This changes nothing for me.

Its amazing because you really had to TRY to ruin mass effect. At worst, people were expecting a tragic ending, or a generic good ending. This was like, effort. Phantom menace style effort.

I love that...

At first we decided to kill both of your squadmates in front of you. Then we decided it was pretty stupid to kill off characters based on the fact that you picked them to come with you. So then we just removed the scene and hoped no one noticed the gigantic disconnect.

..Also they're on the Normandy.

No, from what I understand the final version is suppoused to be with the bodies of your squadmates lying on the ground. Except in the final version we played there were no bodies and instead the squadmates stepped out of Normandy Image IPB Image IPB Image IPB Image IPB Image IPB Image IPB Image IPB Image IPB Image IPB Image IPB Image IPB Image IPB

Hey guys,
So Geoff Keighley (the guy who is the host of Spike Tv's GTTV) released an iPad app called Mass Effect 3: The Final Hours (which you can find here:  http://t.co/6GvlZqQg).

Here's the official website: ME3 The Final Hours

It supposedly has insider information on scrapped parts of the game, interviews with bioware staff over some of the moments in the game, and never before seen art work (which was also scrapped). I just bought the app and hope to update you guys later on, with any interesting news from the app.

Also a Windows/Mac version will be out later, presumably through steam (its the same as the final hours for portal 2).

The cost is $2.99

Interesting Quotes:

Mac Walters on the Star Child/Reapers
"Originally, with the catalyst, the star child at the end of the game, I had written that much more in the guise of a investigative style conversation, where there is something he tells you but then, you get to ask a bunch of questions and you get your questions answered. But then me and Casey talked and decided, lets keep the conversation "High level". Give you the details that you need to know, but don't get into the stuff that you don't need to know. Like "How long have they been reaping?" You don't need to know the answers to the mass effect universe. So we intentionally left those out"

Casey on after Mass Effect 3
"Whatever we do would likely happen before or during the events of Mass Effect 3, not after"

On delaying the game
In march 2011, he also faced a roomful of Mass Effect developers who expressed concern about hitting the promised holiday release date... New release date set for March 2012. After much deliberation, the CAT mission (or rather, the Prothean mission) had to be removed from the set of tasks. The missions would later be completed as post-release content"

Casey on the End Boss
We had the final fight with the Illusive man in the game, but it just felt very Video Gamey. It didnt fit in with the themes. And really, is there a point of the end boss if only for the sake of an end boss?

On Tali's Face
We eventually decided that she gives you a memento of her pictures, but the team was throwing around a lot of pictures and designs until we decided on something and said "Yup, that's her".

On Deciding the End of the Game
The illusive man boss fight had been scrapped... but there was still much debate. On night walters scribbled down some thought on various ways the game could end with the line "Lots of speculation for Everyone!" at the bottom of the page.

And even in November the gameplay team was still experimenting with an endgame sequence where players would suddenly lose control of Shepard's movement and fall under full reaper control. (This sequence was dropped because the gaemplay mechanic proved too troublesome to implement alongside dialogue choices).

Deleted Scenes Videos:
- Liara and Garrus are running behind sheppard in the run for the conduit. Garrus falls over and Liara tries to pick him up. As he gets up, the two run and are hit by a laser as sheppard watches on without hope. In the final version (which is shown beside the deleted scenes video.) the body of your team mates are on the floor dead instead.

Can you upload larger images? The texts are too small to see clearly.

Edit: Images removed.

So......
Essentially they go on record promising all questions answered and multiple endings, and have a ending that does so ..

then at the last minute .. Oh wait lets just leave them hanging. They dont need to know the answers...

Which negates all promises to fans, and never tell us anything otherwise. unless you pay extra for this app to find out/

Is that pretty much what happened there?

Me: Wake up Bioware
Bioware: Where are we?
Me: Mass Effect 3's ending. It is my life.
Bioware: We need to fix this. Everyone is pissed. We fear for our lives.
Me: You have three choices. The blue path will let you fix everything. Follow up on the Indoctrination theory that your fans created for you. If you take the green path you can ignore everything, lose 80% of your fanbase and eventually die as the company that ****ed up Mass Effect. Or the red path, where you can try to justify your actions, ultimately fail and die as the company that ****ed up Mass Effect.
Bioware: The only reasonable option seems to be the blue one. Why wouldn't we pick that?
Me: The DLC must be free.
Bioware: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
