Sounds to me like they decided to experiment and ****** around with the ending of a trilogy and it's exploded back in their face.

Jesus...what a time to be picking experimental endings.

What a joke...they thought this was a good idea...

Of course they thought it was good, they couldn't stop patting themselves on the back  with all their good reviews, until actual fans started commenting. Then they started a back channel campaign to compare fans to whiners and themselves to F. Scott Fitzgerald.

The Arrogance....

Me: Wake up Bioware
Bioware: Where are we?

Bioware: We need to fix this. Everyone is pissed. We fear for our lives.
Me: You have three choices. The blue path will let you fix everything. Follow up on the Indoctrination theory that your fans created for you. If you take the green path you can ignore everything, lose 80% of your fanbase and eventually die as the company that ****ed up Mass Effect. Or the red path, where you can try to justify your actions, ultimately fail and die as the company that ****ed up Mass Effect.
Bioware: The only reasonable option seems to be the blue one. Why wouldn't we pick that?
Me: The DLC must be free.

Oh well. Like I've said, Indoctrination theory was always a big stretch, but it's still my head canon regardless. Maybe all i'm doing by holding the line is jaming fingers in my ears and screaming "NANANANANA"...but that's still better than the alternative.

For the record, all notes look like that. Just saying, you would have seen scribbles referencing just about everything for all three games' outlines.

It's just a shame about the content in this case.

If you're still debating the ending of a TRILOGY 5 months before the release, you pretty much allready failed.

Just an FYI, I wont play anything PRE or during shephard because it won't matter anyway. I get enough sense of hopeless dread from watching the news, tyvm.

Well at least now I know I can uninstall and won't have to worry about reinstalling in the future.
At least I now have that bit of closure.

And even in November the gameplay team was still experimenting with an

because the gaemplay mechanic proved too troublesome to implement
alongside dialogue choices).

Found that part interesting.

I think it's a dead giveaway that the 'indoc' theory is true.

^^ This...

Guys..this more or les reaffirms the indoctrination Theory. The final squadmates dead yet them being on that ship, I mean come on..there's no way such a glaring error would go unnoticed. Roll out the True ending DLC Bioware and stop trolling!

It was meant to be a sequence in game, not the "ending", if it was they would've done another variation of it. They said they scrapped the whole idea cause it just didn't work. They implicitly state that the ending as is, is the actual ending,a nd they have no plan for post-ending DLC or anything of the sort.

All the information shows that the intend the stuff at the end is *actually* happening, they just watered it down from what they originally had because they didnt want people to have all the answers because it "takes away from the experience". AKA they done stupid decisions here.

There is no reference to when the Reaper was supposed to take control, and no reference if it was to be in conjunction with the starchild. For all we know, both events were intertwined but instead of making it obvious that Shepard was indoctrinated, they removed a sequence.

No proof or disproof, but I'm clutching my last thread of hope. Otherwise what's up with the easter egg of Shep breathing?

Shep alive is from the script.  Destory is the only ending he can live through because the other two consume his body.  The endings are EXACTLY the same as the leaked script right down to the conversations.  There is NO indoctrination.  And they made that scene hard to get because, according to the script they saw Synergy as the "perfect" ending.  Destroy is a selfish act in their view.

All this does is show how they came up with the idea for the ending. It does NOT reveal anything planned for the future. All it shows is that the developers meant to create speculation in order to keep people interested in the game. But why? Why do that? Simple: they plan to truly explain what the ending REALLY means. BioWare surely has to know that you don't just create speculation out of thin air. The Mass Effect games are all about defeating speculation with cold-hard facts and epic plot twists. All this proves is that the developers created these endings in order to get the fans talking and begging for more.

And guess what? Talk we have. We have openly addressed our need for more. We have petitioned and raised money to prove how passionate we as a fanbase are. If that's what the devs wanted all along, to test our faith, than I think we have more than proven ourselves. I'm still going to hold the line, I'm still going to believe the theories, and I'm still waiting for my ending. This changes nothing for me.

Dude, in there it plainy states any DLC will take place prior to the ending.  The same thing has also been stated in interviews.  Stop grasping at straws.  This is it.

The DLC may take place before the ending, but it can very well have an effect on the outcome of the ending as well. Perhaps the DLC, once completed, will reveal something that will give Shepard a new option once the ending does roll around. Anything is possible until we have confirmation from BioWare itself that THEY WILL NOT CHANGE THE ENDINGS OF MASS EFFECT 3 AT ALL WITH THE DLC. Till then we assume the worst.

With asinine comments like that in bold, I think people like you don't deserve anything. And it's Mac Walters - if you're going to be uncivil and flip out like that because you're upset about the endings, at least you can get his name right.

From the FAQ

Since this story was completed before the public release of
the game, I do not address the fan petitions or reaction. I hope to
update the story with a new chapter on this down the road.

They made their comments before fan reactions, not that it makes me feel much better.

I believe that is the most important bit of information to take from this. It shows they intended to indoctrinate Shepard in that way, where you lose control completely. Mechanics are what prevented them from doing it THAT way, so THAT way was scrapped. Nowhere does it say indoctrination was scrapped.

I wish this were the actual case, but looks like they were struggling in November without a clear idea of how the game would end (an ending should be conceived prior to the beginning so that all things flow naturally toward and into the ending) and, as a result, implemented half-ideas that left us with a rushed mess.
