Mac Walters on the Star Child/Reapers
"Originally, with the catalyst, the star child at the end of the game, I had written that much more in the guise of a investigative style conversation, where there is something he tells you but then, you get to ask a bunch of questions and you get your questions answered. But then me and Casey talked and decided, lets keep the conversation "High level". Give you the details that you need to know, but don't get into the stuff that you don't need to know. Like "How long have they been reaping?" You don't need to know the answers to the mass effect universe. So we intentionally left those out"
Deleted Scenes Videos:
- Liara and Garrus are running behind sheppard in the run for the conduit. Garrus falls over and Liara tries to pick him up. As he gets up, the two run and are hit by a laser as sheppard watches on without hope. In the final version (which is shown beside the deleted scenes video.) the body of your team mates are on the floor dead instead.
WHY? why did they drop this? the miraculous disappearance of you squadmates, the non-conversation with starchild, lack of insight on the reapers background and joker's "betrayal" are what makes this ending so unbearable IMHO (i admit that a happy ending would have been nice and even important to the fans, no matter what BW considers canon).
but my shepard would have died anyway and i expected to loose a lot of friends in the final battle against the reapers - when i ran down that hill, got hit by the laser and woke up to the comm chatter "everyone's dead" i thought "awesome" (i love the atmosphere of despair featured throughout the game, really sucked me into it:
now i DO fear the reaper) and went looking for the bodies of my squadmates, but no: they just disappeared.
then i encountered TIM and i liked that scene, i even liked starchild at first (imho an AI that took the form of the boy featured in shepards dreams, not the other way around) and was looking forward to get some closure on the reapers, but hell no. dialogue dropped because they felt that way. effing bastards.
