Looks like they were aiming to make the ending feels like that of the first Matrix. Sorry, but I'm getting a distinctly Matrix Revolutions vibe from ME3's ending (and that is not a good thing).

Casey on the End Boss
We had the final fight with the Illusive man in the game, but it just felt very Video Gamey. It didnt fit in with the themes. And really, is there a point of the end boss if only for the sake of an end boss?

I'm sorry that logic just baffles me.
And an end boss for the sake of an end boss is better than no end boss at all. Come on, that wasn't something that needed to be "fixed"

I don't see how "themes" factors in when the current ending doesn't seem to do any better...

He actaully has a point there, look at the end of Bio-shock. 

It was a boss fight just because vidoe games are supposed to have boss fights.
