Keep up moral people, given up now is given up the trilogy.
So what if indoctrination theory is not confirmed or even truly denied.
If there is a dlc they will not leak it's information like this.
Hidden dlc or not WE WILL HOLD THE LINE!!!!

You guys should be more excited. We were asking for ending DLC, and this is ending DLC! You buy it, and find out why the ending was bad!:o

Mac Walters on the Star Child/Reapers
You don't need to know the answers to the mass effect universe. So we intentionally left those out"

So, after promising us that we would get answers, they decided that we didn't need them anyway. Even if they hadn't said they would give us answers, that is still the worst idea in a story finale I have ever heard. You aren't supposed to leave plot holes intentionally. Doing so, and expecting the audience to appreciate it, shows a lack of respect for your audience, not only their intelligence, but their investment in the work.

Casey on the End Boss
We had the final fight with the Illusive man in the game, but it just felt very Video Gamey. It didnt fit in with the themes. And really, is there a point of the end boss if only for the sake of an end boss?

Theme of ME1: Kill Saren, stop the Reapers.
Theme of ME2: Kill the Collectors, stop the Reapers.
Theme of ME3: Listen to vague, nonsensical explanation from Star Child, get railroaded into an out-of-character decision, stop the Reapers. You can also pick one of the following exciting bonus gifts! Red) Killing your friends and allies, Green) turning your friends and allies into Reaper Lite, Blue) letting your friends and allies live but leaving them in a situation where they will probably die on their own.

The point of the Final Boss is to have the Final Boss. That's why it's called the Final Boss.

I really think the dev team must have a disconnect in their heads, where they think they are making a monumental, timeless work of art, and fail to realise that, at the very least, it is also a video game, and therefore the audience has certain expectations about what will happen, and when those expectations are defied, we are confused and frustrated.

On Deciding the End of the Game
The illusive man boss fight had been scrapped... but there was still much debate. On night walters scribbled down some thought on various ways the game could end with the line "Lots of speculation for Everyone!" at the bottom of the page.

I feel my response to this can best be expressed through the following series of emoticons:

<_< --> :? --> :( --> :crying: --> :sick:

I don't even understand the reasoning behind "let them speculate", and I suspect it's because there is no reasoning. Instead of taking the effort to continue the discussion about how it should end and why it should end that way, Walters decided it was easier to wave a magic wand and let the audience decide how the story should end.

Which brings us back to choice, and the lack of it.

The choice of ending is what I would have expected from a Mass Effect game. But I would have expected that the story would provide a framework and context for that choice, and then a satisfactory resolution -- not in the form of a "happy ending", but in the presentation of the consequences of that choice. Because that is what all previous Mass Effect games have had: choice and consequence. Up until Star Child, that's what ME3 had, and it was glorious.

Mass Effect is not a psychological thriller. It is a space opera. So I really have no idea how anyone on the dev team thought a mind screw ending would be acceptable, or even desirable, since the rest of the series has been pretty straightforward in terms of plot.

Someone get Star Child in here to explain it to me. :wizard:

Casey on after Mass Effect 3
"Whatever we do would likely happen before or during the events of Mass Effect 3, not after"

Saw that one coming.

Gonna hold the line, and hope someone at BioWare has the sense and decency to retcon this fiasco.

And even in November the gameplay team was still experimenting with an
endgame sequence where players would suddenly lose control of Shepard's
movement and fall under full reaper control.

There is still hope!

I'm still in shock that BW thought that the ending they gave us would please fans. No closure, no word on what happened to your squad and no indication that your choices mattered as every ending is the same.

"I think the fans will want some closure on the series they have devoted so much time to."
"LOL. F*ck 'em."

Me: Wake up Bioware
Bioware: Where are we?
Me: Mass Effect 3's ending. It is my life.
Bioware: We need to fix this. Everyone is pissed. We fear for our lives.
Me: You have three choices. The blue path will let you fix everything. Follow up on the Indoctrination theory that your fans created for you. If you take the green path you can ignore everything, lose 80% of your fanbase and eventually die as the company that ****ed up Mass Effect. Or the red path, where you can try to justify your actions, ultimately fail and die as the company that ****ed up Mass Effect.
Bioware: The only reasonable option seems to be the blue one. Why wouldn't we pick that?
Me: The DLC must be free.
Bioware: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Good sir you win a Harbinger-Indoctrination cookie.:wizard:

Indeed.

Lots of people still in denial with the hold the line thing lol. Eventually youll get to the conclusion that this is the real ending, whenever its terrible or not. The fact is, what ever we say wont change the ending, they wont change the ending, there is no other ending.

You cant get them to change their story, it was never your story. It was like a book where you chose your path. You chose your path you dont write the story yourself, ending included. You didnt like it, go sell it back and never buy bioware products again. The story are their artwork, the end of it sucked, they got to stand by what they done. Petition to change movies ending dont work, to change books ending dont work, to change video game ending wont work either.

yes because you can never get things changed in a video game.

fall out 3 never got changed at all pfft.

It still sucked with the changes. You cant redem something bad like that it sticks. Theres no way they can remake this ending without yet reusing space magic or forced deus ex machine or a good old mcgaffin. END THEN SHAPARD WOKE UP IT WAS ALL IN HIS HEAD, THE LITTLE KID HELP HIM FIGHT THE REPEAR... BUT BUT I SAW SHEPARD AWAKE IN RED ENDING. Im sure bioware wasted thousands of dollards on CGI movies for a fake ending too.

Alright peeps listen up carefuly. This is our chance to win the fight not just hold the line

Someone in charge of the whole movement, get this stuff, and publish it, send it every single person you can. Make sure a website or two get a sniff of it as well. This will turn the tide in our favor 100%.

USE IT.

Secondly, I want Mark Walters' head on a plate so I can **** in his mouth. The lead writer along with the project manager ruined the best series ever... You dont deserve nothing from us.

this^

With asinine comments like that in bold, I think people like you don't deserve anything. And it's Mac Walters - if you're going to be uncivil and flip out like that because you're upset about the endings, at least you can get his name right.

Did I mention your name anywhere? Did I imply I give a crap about what you have to say or think about my reaction to the demolishing of 5 years of effort? No I did/do NOT.

Im dead serious I want his head.

You need help.

And perspective.

Seriously, people, stop the melodrama.

Don't like the endings? Fine. Throwing tantrums interlaced with necrophilia? BLOODY INSANE!

I took it metaphorically, like this **** should lose his job. I think he should now... people said that was harsh but no, no no no. You lose your job buddy.

Wow....

More of this entitled nonsense.

Constructive criticism and petitions I can understand and even support.

This however helps NO ONE.

Agreed. That's going too far. The majority of us, no matter how upset we are at Bioware, are trying to come across as rational beings with legitimate concerns. Posts like that aren't helping our case.

But there are extremists on every side of every conflict

Wow, really Bioware?

No replay value.

I should go replay ME1 & ME2 for the 5th time and try to forget ME3 happened.

Can't even play ME1 or 2 anymore.  The entire series has been tainted. :(

THIS HURTS ME!

Seriously though I'm crushed. I've been slowly realizing that indoc theory was less and less likely and this completely killed it for me.

On plus side after having my soul destroyed by the ending the first time this revelation barely even hurts. Thanks for that at least Bioware.

Heh, and they're wondering why the game will be one of the most pirated game of the year in a few months.
This concludes the story of Mass effect series and BioWare for now and ever for me.
Maybe i'll buy some DLC that realy worth it for ME3, anything else (new IP and other stuff) forget it.
Mass Effect was the first game series of Bioware and will be the final one.

How can so many people in this thread say that this proves the indoctrination theory false when it specifically says...

And even in November the gameplay team was still experimenting with an endgame sequence where players would suddenly lose control of Shepard's movement and fall under full reaper control. (This sequence was dropped because the gaemplay mechanic proved too troublesome to implement alongside dialogue choices).

They were actively experimenting with how they could implement shepard being indoctrinated. This means it is in the plot and Shepard is indeed indoctrinated!!! The question was just how to implement it. IMO they wanted to trick the player because indoctrination is supposed to be subversive rather than wrench control away. So the player still has control (or the illusion of) of Sheps movement etc. The only question in my mind is whether they have already written the rest of the ending or not.

I hope this is true. The responses on twitter seem to indicate that they have something planned. If they don't, it'll definitely be the most disappointing ending of any video game I've ever played and ruin any replay value of the series.

Even if ReapShep wasn't in their plans, nothing is stopping them from retconning the ending. They did it with Dragon Age 2 so they could keep Flemeth alive, they can do it again.
It isn't against the law to retcon, BioWare!

Hey Bioware?

You failed.

You failed you're fans.

You have lost their trust.

Also lol no final boss because it would make THE VIDEO GAME too "video gamey" that's the most ridicules statement I ever heard about video games.

I can name 5 people I convinced to buy Dragon Age and Mass Effect. I convinced them to buy those games, and they loved them. Word of mouth *must* kill this game.

I shouldn't feel betrayed, I know it isn't my story. But when 0.5% of your audience enjoys it, you know something is wrong somewhere.

I seriously hope the people saying they're abandoning BW will abandon them. I'm going to stick round for a few more days just in case they have something planned. If not, I'll start directly telling people not to buy this and any subsequent piece of "speculation" you have released.

The words "closure" and "speculation" don't usually fit in the same sentence. And regardless of what we see here, it would be very simply for Bioware to release an Ending DLC and solve this entire problem. Maybe it's not the idea they had, but an angry fan base is not the best for business. If Bioware were to actually stick to the current ending, long-term damage to their reputation would really hurt sales for years.

Bioware, please, just do what Bethesda did with Fallout 3. Just admit you picked an ending we weren't happy with, and release "Mass Effect 3 - Broken Steel"

It's getting a tad more difficult to be patient with what Bioware's response will be. Fix it now, or start doing damage control outside of being cryptic.
