Certain people really should lose their jobs over this.

I can agree with this completely. The lead witer should be fired and never given a job in an RPG again.

Let him write stories for the next Call of Duty or something.

Hey Bioware, You're not making "Inception" here...You're making a game based on CHOICE Give us back our ability to choose...

Mac, your 'lots of speculation' makes Ron Moore's 'it's the characters, stupid' shower vision start to appear genuinely insightful.

Just got back from trading in one of my two copies. I bought The Witcher 2; should be OK. First copy will remain here for a few weeks as I watch BioWare's reaction and gauge their willingness to fix this colossal mistake of theirs.

Regardless, I won't be picking up TOR as I had planned on doing this weekend and if I do decide to try out Dragon Age I won't be supporting the company with a purchase.

Save yourself the money and don't get SWTOR. It's great for like a week, but has no endgame at all. And last time I was on the servers were dying so it was only getting worse.

He said he won't be, Ruari...don't worry. XD

I had no faith but now knowing they did this "on purpose"... It's just incompetence; plain and simple.

Idk, i don't think this completely destroys the indoctrination theory. We only see some of the notes.

But on a different note, Is it just me? Or does it look like Hudson said no to a lot of ideas from the Designers/Writers? That didn't sound all that bad?

For the indoctrination theory to work, it basically requires that there be more, otherwise, yeah, the game just ends.

I'd say claiming that no post-game DLC will happen sort of ruins the chance there will be anything else.

The fans wrote a better ending than the writers, a much better one. Lol. ;(

OK, so they sold me a piece of art (well, **** art!) by claiming it was a video game. I wanted a video game, not a piece of art. Can I sue for misrepresentation??

Fire Casey and Walters
Hire Drew Karpyshyn to pen the ending.

Problem solved.

Eh, Nobody needs to fire anyone.  Just bring Drew back, and alls forgiven.

Thing is he left after he was done with SWTOR.

To me the whole situation is no different from the book they recently screwed the pooch on.

Originally, with the catalyst, the star child at the end of the game, I had written that much more in the guise of a investigative style conversation, where there is something he tells you but then, you get to ask a bunch of questions and you get your questions answered. But then me and Casey talked and decided, lets keep the conversation "High level". Give you the details that you need to know, but don't get into the stuff that you don't need to know. Like "How long have they been reaping?" You don't need to know the answers to the mass effect universe. So we intentionally left those out

On night walters scribbled down some thought on various ways the game could end with the line "Lots of speculation for Everyone!" at the bottom of the page.

Wow. Just wow.
I feel depressed now.

So wait, this wasn't a rushed or incomplete ending? People thought this really was a good idea? That this was the way for characters built up for five years should go out?

::headdesk::

The funny part is: I'm not mad.
Not even a bit.

I'm calm.

And laughing.

Because we're just doing what BW wanted. They wanted to give us a huge puzzle, maybe one of the biggest of gaming history. I don't feel offended or something - just ... dunno.
No one says "indoctrination theory is wrong" or "Shepard is not dreaming the finale" ... no one says that.
And I can live with that, since it gives us hope we're still right. It simply does mean BW didn't tell us the truth today, but it doesn't mean they won't do it tomorrow.

So ... no need for being upset for me.

I feel the same.

I don't believe this. They actually sabotaged the ending on purpose.

I feel sick.

Isn't it obvious they did? This doesn't discount the fact that more story is not coming.

bioware, consider me no longer a customer.
i loved mass effect 1 2 and 3 right up to the point where you made all 3 games one giant march to pointlessness.
the game is great but it is not a complete story. and to think that you people actualy thought this was a good idea just proves that you have lost touch with your fans. if you fix this ending. maybe i'll be back.
but untill then, you guys are dead to me.

Would like for someone to point out to me why the indoctrination theory is off the table.

Uh, the script matches the endings.  There is no mention of idoctrination in the script.  The game tells you outright that you defeated the Reapers no matter the ending.  The epilogue tells you outright that you defeated the Reapers no matter the ending.  They state in this (and in prior interviews) that there will be no DLC that takes place after the ending.  The longer scenes they cut clearly show no indoctrination.  They say they dropped the idea of Reapers taking physical control, which BTW is NOT indoctrination, because TIM takes control of you and Anderson in the script and in the game and you are not indoctrinated.  It's just space magic that break when you kill TIM.

This is it.  These are the endings as they intended them.

the piece of paper was 1) old and 2) cryptic on purpose

as if they'd allow a piece of paper that explained the endings completely to be released to the press

they want "speculation," which is exactly what the indoctrination theory is

they took the idea of the reapers taking control of shepard off the table because of mechanics, not because of their story decisions

still not disproved

I'm so unbelievably disappointed, not only that people who've made some of my favourite games actually thought it was a good idea to shove an ending like that into our faces.
No, I'm much more disappointed at how they arrived at this conclusion.

Hey writers, while you were scribbling this crap onna sheet of paper, did it ever occur to you once, what Bioware had promised the fans, the people buying your products?

That we'd get many different possible endings, depending on choices made, who survived, how much assets etc. you accumulated?
Basically an ending for every possible Shepard.

And then you give us one ending for one lousy character and it's not even Shepard.
It might be the Shepard of the developer team, but I assure you that none of my Shepard was this beaten, broken "husk" of a fighter, who just gave in to the suddenly appearing and (intentionally) unexplained starchild's demands.

And even if you believed that Shepard should be reduced to this (even so minutes before, he can misteriously stll talk down the IM ), even then didn't you see the holes in the Starchild's logic?
That you had basically just proven him wrong, both with EDI and if you brokered peace between Quarians and Geth, Turians and Krogans and even brought Batarians to fight alongside earth's forces?

And Shepard would really accept the explanation, which so thrillingly reminds me of what a vietnam era US General once said: "In order to save the village, we had to burn the village."
"Yes, in order to save organic live, we have to destroy organic life."
Never giving them a chance to solve their problems with their synthetic creations on their own, never checking if anything had changed. and if you find something has changed, you offer them to choose between bad, even worse, or worst case?

And somehow you thought that was a good idea?
I really do wish I would get paid for ideas like that.

At least with Inception everything was tied up to a simple binary discussion of was he dreaming or not. Unlike this slobbering ****fest of an ending.

So thats why the endings are the worst, they dont think we deserver to know more, they just gave us what we "need" to know no respect for the costumer.

So every theory about the endings are wrong there wont be any fixed version or dlc or whatever, we just dont need to know more.

They broke a simple rule in Creative Writing 101.  When finishing a story, simply finish it.

Instead of going with the correct ending or the right ending, they wanted to be flashy.  That's a case of the writer bending the story to his/her will instead of simply allowing it to work itself out.

This was talked about in the "writers' opinions" thread.

"Simply finish the story."  Or, "Let the story finish itself."

Stephen King once said, "It is the story, not he who tels it."  [paraphrasing]
