It confounds me how EA will even approve such a mediocre ending.

EA bought Bioware, knowing that before 2007 Bioware was well-loved by the gaming community. Why tarnish it?

This is like Disney tarnishing Pixar to an extent. What company soils their prize developers just for some extra cash?

1. This announcement is just in poor taste. For crying out loud, Forbes is talking about the ending. If they planned on releasing this app...they should have waited. Like...how soon after a funeral should you ask the widow out?

2. You know...I'm not in agreement with the EvilBiowareAndEABusinessandGreedSucks part. Their job is to make money. I'm okay with that. And how does one make money? In theory, you do it by writing well. If this was a novel, would a publishing company have accepted this ending. I can't believe I spent $60 on this. What percentage went to the writing team? Deduct that, and I would have argued a fair price.

3. Seriously, this game has to be Bioware's baby. Why would you drop a baby?

4. If there's one thing I loved about KOTOR, Jade Empire, and Dragon Age, it's how foreshadowing played a huge factor in the ending. Let's face it, finding out you're Reven is still one of the biggest twists ever. There was so much material to work with! How could this ending be so weak when you have so much material to draw from?

Reapers have been vague about their purposes. Plus, it's not like their reliable narrators.
So has TIM, actually.
Dark energy has been hinted at.
As shown with the asari temple, each species have enough dark secrets to fill an ocean.

The point is, a decent fan fiction writer could take that material and work the ending. Heck, a really good one could make a legit excuse to human-turian or human-AI babies at this point.

You don't like it. Fine. But basing all future business off of five minutes is childish.

Oh for sure...

Image flying on a plane from Europe to Australia, everything is just fine and dandy, nothing bad happens all the way through. Then, just before the landing, the pilot willingly messes completely up and nosedives the plane into the ground at 800 mph.

How could you possibly complain about this? He did everything right 98% percent of the time!

^^^^ THIS 1000%

Because in scenario A: lives are at stake.

In scenario B: people's lives aren't in danger.

Theres a difference... a massive one.

Sorry, was away for a while. What happened? Is the end we have now the final end of the game?

Posted this yesterday, I'll repost here. Hope it helps to see what's on the other side of the mirror atm.

I don't think Bioware is out of touch with their customers though I agree with an earlier poster that right now they are assessing their options. Nor do I think that everyone speaking up for them at the moment is a "yes man" or shill. That said:

I don't for a moment think there are any other endings, this was a hallucination, etc. Bioware/EA is letting these speculations go on for two reasons. First, they are letting people vent. Secondly, they are weighing options.

Years ago, I worked for a PR damage control team and everything right now is going by the book. First, re-affirm and ignore (also known as doubling down), then try and define the detractors in the mainstream with things like "this is all a big mistunderstand", etc. while remaining civil in the hopes the detractors go rabid. Meanwhile go dark and use countermeasures through third part sources to prop up your position and brand the outcry as driven by hacks, haters or a minority trying to wear out the detractors on these outlets or "shock troops" while protecting the corporate core. Next, offer something distracting (notice SWTOR is free this upcoming weekend) known as the "faux olive branch"/ask the angry people to explain their concerns (without agreeing to commit to a compromise), buy more add time (definitely going on right now), and hope it dies down. If the pressure is still on, determine the economic viability of 1) ignoring the outcry and banking on the fickle nature of consumers to get over it or 2) determining if we can make money off of fixing it.

If it is any consolation, the decision whether or not there is a fix DLC, etc, won't be made by the writers so illusions to things they wanted to convey don't matter much atm (to wit: the leads comments yesterday). I suspect he's been called in and politely told by the PR guys to not do that again. This is now a corporate problem, not an artistic struggle with fans. Somewhere in the EA bunker, attorneys, PR guys, writers and brass are sharing numbers b/c in the end this will come down to hard currency.

As one who despises the endings, I'm hoping the suits tell the visionaries that the customers are loud enough and numerous enough to swollow their pride and get them out of this storm. For those that love them, I readily accept your position and respectfully disagree.

Thank you for posting this. It's definately an interesting perspective. Let's hope fan outcry will be large enough to persuade them.

Quoting you because the guy you quoted wrote stuff that really needs to be read.

So when all those professional reviews came out and talked of the great ending that provides total closure, wraps up everything nicely and answers all questions...those people were just programmed to say that, right?

They probably thought it was a smart way to tie the entire trilogy together. Obviously, it didn't work out that way.

Addressing doesn't mean fixing. They may fix it, but more than likely they will just tell us why they went the way they did.

Most likely they are waiting for the reaction of the Asian gamers. Not a good idea in my opinion, asian gamers are much more passionate than us. I'm actually quite curious about their reaction!

I actually think that there is no fight with the IM is a good idea. It doesn't really fit the character.

I would have liked an endboss fight, but it should be Harbinger, not IM.

It's clear to me now, that this is the ending that was intented.

I still have a faint hope they'll change it, if it begins to really hurt them financially.

But it will be hard, if they really have nothing done in this regard so far.
After all, people don't another patched together failure, but a real conclussion.

See, i wonder if they made the ending the way they did because ME has been licensed as a movie? They wanted to make the video game ending more like a movie ending or some kind of reversal of logic. It's the only thing that makes sense.

I'll take that over star child.

I'd take an enema from an angry Krogan over star child.

Well said!  At least that wouldn't be a rip of of 2001 that made no sense.

You know, if I could travel back in time, I would tell everyone to simply not say anything ever, about the endings. That would have been far more effective. For us all to just have not reacted at all and said nothing, like the game never existed. They wanted all this madness, it was deliberate.

People in the thread need to calm the hell down, we were doing so good.

This is, IMO, a case of bad timing and accidental salt in the wound. The money isn't even Bioware's.

The rape comparisons are not good.

EA knew they shipped 3M copies, what did they care about the artistic choices of the game?

I'm betting they care a little more now.
