Because in scenario A: lives are at stake.

In scenario B: people's lives aren't in danger.

Theres a difference... a massive one.

Other scenario wanted?

It's your girlfriend's birthday, you did everything to make this day memorable and enjoyable to her so far. Then, you drive to the bakery to pick up the birthday cake you ordered, you enter the shop and you can see the baker completing your cake. It's simply a masterpiece, absolutely perfect, looks good, smells good and without a doubt it's going to taste good. And right before he is finished, the baker goes mental, grabs a hand full of cockroaches and throws them onto the cake you just wanted to pick up.

98% percent perfect work, results acceptable?

And yes, the last 15 minutes (not 5, for whatever it's worth) did ruin it. It's like finding a layer of dog crap at the bottom of a triple-layer chocolate cake. It ruins the whole thing.

This is why Mac Walters should never have been the lead writer. Drew was the lead for designing this beautiful world and setting the stage for a great trilogy, even with a good end in mind.. And then it gets handed off to Mac, and we get the abomination that is the god child. I will never purchase a Bioware game again, knowing that these are the kinds of design choices they approve of.

that is what im thinking too. ever since Drew stoped beeing the Leadwriter. they cramed out halfassed
porely written stuff..

i wish they would get Drew to accually come back just to Write an expansion/DLC pack that:

redoes the hole ending,

changes alot of the crappy writing thruout the hole game. like the nonexisting dialogue
or kasumi from ME2 autoanswer by major character style they implemented to the FINALE!!??!! WTF

im sorry but i think the hole game is porly written. and it shows all over, people are just too caught up in the end that is ridicolously bad and cant see that yet.. but it will come...

This whole debacle draws sharp attention to the difference between a gifted character writer and a gifted plot writer. Perhaps Mr. Walters can write character-driven scenes and arcs very well, but with rather weak on central plot ME3 and ME2 before it (though catastrophe was avoided there) under his belt now, I must say I'm not fond of the direction things have gone. ME1 had a driving central plot and clear central antagonist. Since then...not so much. I've enjoyed the rich depth of character in ME2-3, but I miss the edge-of-my-seat main plotline.

So when all those professional reviews came out and talked of the great ending that provides total closure, wraps up everything nicely and answers all questions...those people were just programmed to say that, right?

In a manner of speaking, yes.  I stated in another thread that I wouldn't pre-order (or buy at all) any Bioware product in the future until I read USER reviews.  "Professional" reviews are crap.  They depend on advertiser dollars for their existence.  The game companies pay them advertising dollars and hand them their latest game.  They HAVE to kiss up or they risk pissing off Mr Moneybags.

On another note, I'm happy to say that the Amazon rating for ME3 is now down to 2 stars and descending.  I gave it a long review, going over what was good about it but ultimately had to give it 1 star due to the ending.

The price for the game should (deservedly so) begin a quick descent soon.  No one in their right mind would pay more than $9 from the bargain bin for this pile of steaming crap.

I could be ... vocal, but I'm saving that for when I calm down. What I do want to say is if they got one thing right it is that it's stupid to just have a boss for the sake of having bosses. That's just dumb. As to the rest... *grumble*

I can understand the Tali picture a bit more now, if they had a hard time making it good and just whatever they thought was "best."
I can understand cutting the Illusive Man fight, though I would have like it similar to the boss fight with Saren, shout-out to the first game and all.
But I just can't understand how ANYONE thought star-child WAS A GOOD IDEA! It's just... no.
Hopefully though, they'll realize their mistake and write a better ending.

Pre-release: "Oh, yeah, there will definitely be a solid conclusion, there will be more answers than questions!"

Post-Final Hours: "LOTS OF SPECULATION FROM EVERYONE!"

...

Don't worry! I only forget to recycle the Normandy's oxygen supply when something really depressing happens.

Oh, wait a minute, it just did... :crying:

Paused my second playthrough. I'll wait for an official statement. If it's anything else than a new/extended/true ending... well.

I loved Mass Effect and Dragonage and I want this love to continue, but with this ending In my mind I guess it's just impossible. Unbelievable anybody thought this would be a good idea. Just unbelievable.

My hope rests on Bethesda now. :/

I actually agree with their stance here. I disliked the final boss in ME 2 a lot and was really glad the ending (in terms of combat) felt more like a war than a video game.

How the hell does God-Child and space magic :wizard: feel like war to you?!

yea gamestop will need a warehouse to put all the used copies and a smaller one for the unbought new copies

Maybe. Maybe not.

At least that's not the case in my area.

Discussing it with the guy at the counter today. Got him curious so he looked and I saw the used game inventory. Every Gamestop in the area listed having used product, but all less than 4.

And that's not even accurate because if GS made it's preorder target, everyone got a copy of the game. Some of those people with CE preorders naturally turned theirs in.

Well no, to be fair I'd say that's not the actual design document, obviously. And I say "design document" as if it exists in the way it would have done when Al Lowe wrote Leisure Suit Larry, but the point is...that piece of paper is really just a piece of paper. It's kinda to the writing what the concept art is to the visuals in the game.
I...think.

if the ending was written on 1 piece of paper (in large words) I'm guessing tali's face was decided on a post it note with sharpi markers.

It wasn't just one piece of paper. Stuff like that is jotted down all the time, for any business situation. No one should take the paper as a be all end all.

But that said, it still shows they planned out the Catalyst and at least at some point thought it was a good idea. That is true.

Some people seem to have trouble understanding the difference between "broken promises" and "dishonesty".

When during an interview 12 months before a game's release, a developer makes certain promises about what content will be in the game, and then 12 months later gamers find this content missing, this is a broken promise.

When during an interview a few weeks before the release of the game, a developer makes specific promises about what will be in the game, and then gamers find the complete opposite, this is dishonesty. It's cynical marketing spin, that involves deceiving your consumers with the sole purpose of selling more product.

Guess which one happened here?

Gee let me think... BOTH?!

Until Bioware comes out with a statement about whether or not they're going to release a new ending for ME3, a lot of what people are saying about the ME app proving that the endings that we currently have are the endings we're stuck with is jumping to conclusions.

Consider this for a second; Casey has said in interviews that he didn't want ME3's ending to be forgettable. We've seen from some of his twitters that there's something coming. I don't know what might be coming, but it makes sense artistically to create a huge sensation about the end of ME3 in this way; create such ambitious interactivity with the player to the point that if a player chooses the Control or Synthesis ending, gets upset, but then is resigned to acceptance, despite being disappointed, then they've really been indoctrinated (a la the ID Theory). Then Bioware let's that sit for a week or two before releasing the actual ending.

"But Casey said there wouldn't be any post-ME3 content released." POST-ME3 content, no. But what if the delayed release of the actual ending was meant to be a part of the game after all? What if what we're experiencing right now, frustration and everything, was intended to be a part of the overall gaming experience that comprises ME3, to be concluded with the true end content?

This may very well be me grasping at straws, or being in the denial stage of grief, or whatever, but just consider for a second that the event that is the release of ME3 is more than what is on the disc; that it's an interactive experience that goes beyond what is physically on the disc, and that it will be given the closure it deserves shortly.

It's crazy, and I may very well be way off base and wrong, but it's possible.

This is comign from a big fan of the series etc etc who posted a lot on the indoctrination thread etc.

I still have some Faith that the Real Bioware is inside this..husk. I have hope that they CAN fix things. I'm not blaming EA, this is entirely on Bioware's shoulders. They have the chance to make things right. Whether they do or not, well, one way rekindles my support. The other makes me leave for good.

(mordin voice)Hm. Would have liked to perform tests on Dragon Age 3.
