Q: What did you think of the ending? Is this addressed in the story?
A: "I've seen the uproar online about the ending and understand the fan perspective. Personally I respect the creative choices the team made and had no problems with how the story ended -- it made you feel something, even if that feeling was uncomfortable."

This must be THE most stupid statement ever made by a company in the history of mankind. "We want to make our customers feel uncomfortable"

By all means make people uncomfortable, make them realise they are no better then the reapers and not worth saving, or defending Synthetics lead to the reapers or whatever. these are just a couple of ideas in a couple of seconds with no one to bounce off.

BUT DO IT THE RIGHT WAY. There's an artist called Grayson Perry (2003 turner prize winner), He's all about making people uncomfortable, he makes amazing ceramics Vases that you'd expect to see in a nice home, but the surface is marred with images of abused children. This is how you invoke negative emotion with purpose. What you done has no value, there is no purpose and it is not "art", you just have a bunch of desperate people that feel conned for 5 years grasping at straws. Take yourselves down a notch because you think far too much of yourselves Bioware.

Wow. Thanks for introducing me to Grayson Perry! That juxtaposition of themes -- fine high-class vase vs. desperate low-class circumstnce -- gave me shivers. Just wow. What a collision of the different spheres of life people of different situations live in.

Provoking thought and emotion is easy. Trolls do it all the time. Provoking meaningful thought and emotion is hard. I felt like watching the distruction of the Mass Relays was poetic -- I enjoyed that aspect of the ending. However, it was immediately followed by a huge WTF when the Normandy was suddenly not fighting for Earth but in mid system jump... ???? What? Why? Then they crash and my sqadmates are there. ???? Too much is left unexplained. Way way way too much. I don't mind connecting point A to point C myself. But connecting point A to point G is a labor I should not have to take on.

In fact they thought it was so awesome that they prevent you from asking it any relevant questions. Like "Do you realize that your plan is based on a completely flawed and racist premise that makes Hitler look straightforward and sane by comparison?"

Bioware never said that the kid was the good guy. Any attempt to explain the Reaper's motivation for "We are your salvation through annihilation" is bound to be pretty f*ked up. Or did you want to be given a good and perfectly sane reason for the reapers to do what they do?

I can only infer that whatever species originally started the reaper thing, they came within a hair's breadth of the whole galaxy being overrun by synthetics in their time, and decided to take the most extreme kind of "Never again" preventive solution they could imagine. It's paranoid almost to the point of insanity of course, but it is a valid explanation.

Jessica Merizan ‏ @JessicaMerizan Close
@3K__ @vrumpt LOL! OK I'll ignore that. Yes, and one ending choice allows for that possibility :)

WHOA, one ending choice allows for that possibility (red)? I hope to god she really isn't talking about head cannon here...

Seriously, my friends will have to absolutely rave about the next Bioware game for me to buy it day 1. Three times in a row they have dashed my hopes. Whatever we want to think or hope, Bioware is longer the same company it once was.

Oh man... reading this now... I've gone through the depression and anger, now it's a joke to me... bioware being the punchline...

Does anyone else imagine their decision on the final ending design was anything like this...

It's the ending... lots of speculation?
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? No way!
Yup, it is... it is... it is BIG TIME!

@ReanKnopke @NicolaiAntonov uh they did not go through a Mass Relay - the one in the sol system is WAY too far away!

oh my.

And there also aren't any systems near Sol, are there? So where did they even end up, and how did they get there? I get the weird impression she hasn't even played the games or something.

Be more like True Geth. Find your own understanding of the game, instead of looking to Bioware to give you one.

I feel sick after reading the first post... So all of the hours I spent in ME3 are rewarded with an ending that only be described as "lacking"? Honestly Bioware, all that fame seems to gone to your head...

That Bioware does not even realize that trying to essentially foist Mein Kampf on the player as the grand ending of their trilogy speaks poorly of their judgment.

That takes me back. I remember before ME3 launched, late 2011. There was a thread where the OP stated that Mass Effect was a love letter to facism. It was funny because while a sarcastic joke, he made good points. Makes you wonder.

The more I
keep reading the more I think Bioware is actually oblivious at the
moment. It seems their PR spin is to keep trying to say the ending
promotes critical thinking. They want to keep driving it home and
change the topic from them failing to we aren't using the right
perspective. We are using the perspective that they gave us and
manipulated. If you have to use Twitter and various other media to
change the players perspective instead of the video game it came from to
have a critical thinking session then it is a BAD ENDING.

the more i keep reading the more i'm convinced bioware doesn't know wtf to do/think right now

Let's be honest here. If the producer of a product has to say "NO, WE DIDN'T MESS UP, YOU'RE JUST NOT LOOKING AT IT THE RIGHT WAY!". They're wrong. Very, and horribly wrong. It's one thing to have an ending that's debatable. In-company example. Dragon Age 2 was controversial, but there was heated debate about the game's story and ending. There were complaints, but it wasn't nearly as prevalent as this.

So yeah. They're crazy out of touch. Somehow they manage to be both silent, which annoys the fans, and giving out vague PR double-talk.. which makes it look like they have no idea what to do, are out of touch, and are annoying the fans.

she also said when someone asked why red had to destroy the geth and edi
"are you sure the catalyst is telling the truth?"

basically it sounds like she's saying "ya this **** doesn't make any sense so.. just ignore it for now"

Looking at all her twitter feeds I get more of a "the endings are how you want them to be. Make it up yourself. Everything is possible" vibe.

I tweeted Jessica Merizan this poll:

http://social.biowar...606/polls/28989

I don't know why she says "90% is an arbitrary number," but having 45K+/50K people vote that they want a better ending...is 90%. And a 50,000-person sample size? That's is INCREDIBLE...there are studies that would KILL for that big of a sample size to make decisions and projections off of...

Bioware, stop ignoring your fanbase...it's pretty obvious what the general consensus is towards the ending...the majority wants different endings. I can't visit ANY website related to gaming or media without reading about my fellow ME fans calling for a change.

Yes, that's all she's doing. She entertains everything anyone says. It's PR spin pure and simple.

Has to be a PR spin...someone told her that the "Guardian's (Starchild) logic sounds like BS, can you clarify" and she responded with the "Was the ending a hallucination?" thread...

They're clearly trolling us at this point.

"Lots of speculation for Everyone!" , right?  Just like they intended.

Seriously, it's pretty frustrating.  I can't even tell if this is all smokescreening while they legitimately talk about what's going on, or if everyone communicating with us right now is kind of pressing ahead with some sort of weird intentional plan that  "we're just gonna encourage fans to interpret the ending in different exciting ways, it'll be fun times."  Really hope it's the former, but afraid it's the latter.  Some of the feedback we've gotten has at least been polite, but none of it gives me any sort of comfortable assurance that anybody at Bioware actually gets where we're coming from.

Put it this way: She and BioWare are ABSOLUTELY INSANE if she's being allowed to make those kind of Tweets without a proper ending in the pipeline.

That's all I'm going to say. Considering what a sh!tstorm this has been, that would be suicide if it were disingenuous.

So...you're saying she's making disingenuous assertions?
