Books, Movies, Television shows. Comic books....whatever.
The only thing I can think of that comes close is the ending of the Dark Tower series.
Anyone got any others?
What else, if anything, ended this badly?

Nu-BSG with the whole 'God' decided it, and Starbuck turning out to be an angel. It was definitely a wtf moment.

Pirates of the Caribbean was much worse. And Lost, that was worse too.

Xenogears, Xenosaga, Final Fantasy VII (though it ended on a hopeful note as lifestream fought back), Dreamfall

I legitimately can't think of anything that ended this badly.

lots and lots of things. i can't think of any off the top of my head...oh wait.
star wars episode 2. yoda personally starts one fo the biggest galactic wars in history, then feels bad about it
star wars episode 3. apparently darth vader only exists because anakin is so stupid he was tricked into being evil.
ill think of more and be back with more examples.

Magnum PI ended in its seventh and last season with Magnum being unexpectedly gunned down by mobsters, roll credits.
Then, due to fan outrage, the (cancelled) series was renewed for a truly final eighth season to wrap the character up more amicably.

For me, nothing. I swallowed Matrix & BSG endings alright. They were a bit odd, but ok, can deal.
I discussed the ending with a die-hard Lost fan. It sounds like Lost & ME are on par in terms of being absolutely horrific endings. I can't say whether or not that is true from personal experience, though.

Many people have said it already, Lost. The difference between Lost and ME3 for me is that I actually cared about the characters in Mass Effect.

Lost is so convoluted that coming up with a coherent ending would be almost impossible. ME doesn't even have this excuse.

Matrix trilogy.
THIS. Matrix trilogy killed the franchise: The MMO died shortly after, no more comics were published, no more action figures were made.
ME3 has alienated the game's fan base. The most ardent supporters, the ones who buy all the products and recommend the game to their friends, will no longer do so from now on. Like the Matrix sequels, ME3 has killed the franchise.

Fallout 3, before DLC. Radiation, you die.
