That deleted cutscene doesn't make any sense. They get blasted by Harbinger on Earth, then somehow appear on the Normandy?
Even if you were going for an artistic speculative ending, you wouldn't leave a plothole that big to drive through. Every. Single. One. of your squadmates were on EARTH when the Harbinger attack happened. And they suddenly ALL appear on the Normandy? How does that make sense?
I guess, in the original version, you won't get the stupid scene with Normandy.

Oh but you can to a degree. Don't remember the good old day's of Neverwinter Nights, Baulder's Gate and even before that? Let's remember Dragon Age II...and the fact that Dragon Age was pratically finished before they got to EA. I sense a serious design philoshpy change and games like the Witcher and Witcher II prove they are not needed to sell units. Generally speaking though the changes to Mass Effect 2 and even Mass Effect 3 are actually good gameplaywise. I appluad Mass Effect 3 in the amount of custimization it gave me.legion999 wrote...
So Bioware ****s up it's EA's fault? I dislike EA but come on you can't blame them for everything.
Though back on topic, I think that if this had been the actual ending fans would still rage and complain as it's not much better than what they had in place anyway. I think they wanted Shepard to sacrifice himself for the team and not his team sacrifice themselves for him which seems even more counter intuative than the ending they actually have in place.

Note: I also love Anderson's cut speech. I hope IF we get a DLC with more ending options that we can get things like this in there!!!!

In the app they explain that they removed that because they worried people would be pissed that their squaddies get killed with no say in it.
And they didn't think people would be pissed off if their squadmates got teleported to Normandy and fled the battle? Just amazing.
I mean seriously though with such dark endings they thought this would be an issue? If you're going for a dark and sad ending at least do it properly with some emotional scenes. Don't cut off stuff like Anderson's last speech because it would be too long. Those kinds of things are what people want to see.

I think we'll just have to assume that Joker came back to pick up any survivors after Shepard went up and Harby left the area.
And that once the crucible fired, any ships in proximity just FTL'd away... so probably the Normandy is only somewhere else in the Local Cluster and not actually that far away from the Sol system.

Vega comes because maybe he can tank it
Edit: Note I'm an odd fellow sometimes. In a few games I'd romance Ash and then leave her on Vermire just for the dramatic elements involved. I'm sure that I'd have some Shep that would take his LI just to see how that ends.
I'm perfectly happy to see bad things happen if & when they are done well and make sense in the story. If good things happen I'm also happy to see those as long as they also "make sense".
YMMV

That's hilarious. The ending has everyone important to the story being killed with you having no say in it. What difference would two early deaths have made?

I always wanted to go Solo with the last mission anyways....
I still don't understand what is Bioware's fetish with killing people off like that.

Ok... note to self: if any ending DLC appears, don't bring your favorite squadmates to the final push.
I think that would only happen if you didn't bring enough war assetes.

And this is why I didn't bring Garrus or Liara with me to Earth, just because I had the feeling one of them would die.
But they didn't even if you did bring them with you. My Liara and Garrus walked out of the Normandy at the end.
I believe this was left out because it was too random. You could bring any squadmate with you for the final mission, so you pretty much had the choice to kill any of your squadmate.

It should be noted that Bioware originally had plans for different scenarios that could happen on the run to the beam, at least one of which included your two squadmates providing cover fire while you make it to the beam, NOT dead.
Do you know if the players had the choice in it? I would enjoy it if you had a choice of orders somewhere along the line of:
- Fall back to the ship
- Provide cover fire
- Charge!
