Fallout3 did something simular, expecting the same game play features as its parent game, Oblivion (yes they're built on the same game engine) many people were very disappointed to realize that once you purified all of the water the game ended and... "Game Over". They recieved such an outrage from the community, the 3 most recient DLC's they had included a means to contenue playing the game even after the ending. But in doing this they found out something revolutionary, folks were willing to pay upwards of $40.00 just to keep playing in that manner with nothing else content-wise being released.
If I had to place my sovereigns on it, I'd say BioWare learned this trick from Bethesda and plans on making the game "playable" post-ending a selling point to a otherwise un-salable content pack.

DLC? Nah, just wait for a mod.

If they decide to change that in the future, with an expansion/DLC, then it's not a trick; it would be responding to all those people that are now posting that that's what they want.

And it would be more accurate to say "BioWare HAD designed games this way for a very long time", past tense. Both Mass Effect and the PC version of Jade Empire had New Game + features, so for people who have only recently started playing BioWare games, there would be no reason for them to expect Dragon Age to be any different.

They should just leave it as is.

Since the world isn't free roam and since enemies don't respawn. What is the point in making the game open ended?

Well for one thing, I have nearly 400 sovereigns and nothing to spend them on.
If nothing else, I'd at least like to visit some of the other merchants and stock up on goods for future DLC.

Fallout 3 also happens to be a sandbox game, where 9/10 of the point of the entire game is just roaming around.Kailieann wrote...
Bethesda learned their lesson with Fallout 3 and eventually released Broken Steel, AFTER the community had already made two 'play after the end' mods. I have at least some faith that BioWare will do the same for Dragon Age.

An expansion that can bring your level 20 character into the fray once more. Now that is what I want.
Wait a minute, I noticed that somehow if you have a character that didn't use Warden's Keep you can use your post-coronation character to go to Soldier's Peak but you need to go back to camp and talk to Levi.
Now this presents that a post-coronation character can be used on a new expansion.

What will you do with the free roam after the main campaign ended? Side quests perhaps? After the side quests now what? Surely it would be boring to be in Ferelden with nothing else to do but gather elfroot and making poultices just for the fun of it.
This would be a problem for console users yes but PC gamers have the advantage of player created content. Mods that allow for roaming after the campaign are allways desirable and now that some of the essentails are falling into place with DAmodder being on its open beta phase, plugins for blender being in beta, and toolset patch soon to be released and so on. It wont be to much longer before PC users will see more adventures and more importantly adventures that take place after the official campaigns ended.
Not trying to bash Bioware I loved the DA story but after 4 play throughs it gets really old regardless of what race, gender ect is played only so much will ever change. The beauty of Mods is that the adventure does not need to end, and knowing the quality of works produced by modders coming together from both NWN communities and Oblivion/fo3 communities I think its safe to say that good times are on the way.
