Because of finite encounters and quests, at a point the free-roam will become pointless too.

Which is why we need a random encounter generator, maybe an arena or survival mode, or some rediculously impossible bosses to challenge ourselves with. But obviously this is for the hardcore fans that have no problem playing this game multiple times, and really want to push the limits of their party (80%+ of us?)

my feeling is that if the game isnt 100% quests done, than it shouldnt stop you from playing just because the main story line is done. heck i hardly did any regular side quests yet, but im glad to know that the ending stop you from playing so that way i can do side quests now that ive recruited all 4 races to fight in the main fight.............

or maybe a DLC that once you have beaten the game with 4 different origins that you can start a new game with those 4 characters on the same game...if you have a mage, you will find him in a random encounter going to the circle, if you had a elf rogue you would find them while traveling to the brecilian forest, and so on,,,,,,,,,,,,,, that way you can add your own style characters to the game and you could play thru the extra hard setting with strong characters

*shrug* I like that when the main storyline is over, the game is over, sidequests completed or not. I always have a sort of hollow feeling wandering about in open ended games after completing the main quest.

God I hate games that do this.. Especially RPG's I mean For Fark Sake I should be allowed to roam around after completing a storyline. Oblivion a truly great game did this, I suspected DAO would be a game that would include this aswell.. To my disappointment this means I will no doubt not be playing this game as long

I say leave that sort of thing for sandbox games. I am quite capable of going back to one of my earlier saves if I feel I missed out on something. A story-based game should have an ending.

Wow, I am glad I read this. I am before that big meeting (with Logain), but I still have like 30 sidequests active. I gues I should not hurry to the end and finish them now.

Seems to me that a guy should "wring-out" the game prior to finishing the primary quest line.  Finish all the side quests you want and go back to the primary quest then.

As far as game ending are concerned I have usually been disapointed in them. A guy should get a resounding send off... a party in his/her honor a S**T load of gold and all the good guy NPS's kissing up to the hero.

Games like Oblivion and Fallout 3 have a lot of territory to explore -- many square miles of it. The territory is continuous and integral to the "feeling" of the games. Their main quests use a fraction of the total. So, after the main quest, there is still a lot of potential exploring to do.

DA has a fraction of a square mile total, I imagine -- surely less than a tenth of Oblivion or Fallout 3. Bioware limited areas to virtually the minimum needed to "tell the story". So, when the DA main quest is done, one has "seen it all" -- there is nothing left to do.

Just make a save before the final whatever.

Continuing after the finale wouldn't really make much sense. For a start, the world wouldn't be the same - Denerim has been half destroyed for example, while reading the epilogue makes it clear that other places are changing too. Many of the side-quests you might not have done would no longer be relevant without a Darkspawn horde or a corrupt ruler threatening. Not to mention that many of your party members leave you in one way or other once you've completed the game.

I'm glad the game ended like it did. It made me feel like when you close an epic novel, and you have that accomplished smirk on your face.

Has anyone yet completed a "Free roam" mod yet, or is anyone aware of one being developed?

Thats 100% same as me man & I was more gutted about this element of the game than the game story(morri) ending.

I had a good bit of cash rdy to spend many side quests, on my secound run now tho of the same char claering ever last quest & getting all armor sets, is some awsome stuff out there just need more chars to put it all on.

I was assuming free roam & was hopeing it would respawn trash mobs witch is all very easy to have done. Anytime I make a map id always add enterties in batches & I would add trash mobs/items save that out then setup scipts for quest & boss fights or vice versa.

Still let hope they can improve this in later DA games/expantions

Its key to get everything done before you finish the landsmeet in Denerim after that you might loose a key town. worse still you have to take the game that far to open up the last few elements of side quests so you got right upto going into the landsmeet then keep a key save.

Kept it as vague as poss for spolier reasons.
