As far as I can tell it has nothing to do with the content in the app or thread. It has everything to do with some people unable to control their emotions.

I can understand, and even support that.

But I think that shutting down the whole forum
was the wrong move; it should have been a thread lock, and possible
bans. To quote Kaidan, "That might have been a little extreme,
Commander."

I've never seen a forum in which complete shut down of a specific hot-button topic resulted in a positive response; since it is an entire forum and not just a thread, and since there was an official from earlier today that acknowledged the fan reaction, locking the whole forum made it seem like they were trying to prevent any further discussion, on any topic.

I do not know what issues there were that necessitated a forum lock rather than a thread lock, so I am willing to take Priestly at face value when he says that it needed to be done -- but I'm not surprised that people are upset about it.

It was locked because people saw that Bioware had planned it from the beginning to be as bad as it is and that just broke some peoples resolve. I have no faith/reason to believe why I should keep my copy of ME3 even with what Bioware has "planned". Not answering about the ending and then giving up the info to another company so they can money (bioware didn't share this info for free, that I can guarantee) is really what broke the camels back per say.

Oh and it's been 30+ mins now and still locked

We could all use some more common sense. Even those who have it.

It's a useful thing to have.

I do agree. :wizard:

This actually helps us, you know?  As long as they could drop ambiguous little hints on Twitter that maybe the indoctrination theory was accurate and that maybe the real ending was coming and that we should "hang onto our copies of ME3 forever," they were able to buy themselves time.

Well guess what?  Time's up.

People were angry and a few lashed out at staff members but most people were just venting. Just because it got heated and hectic doesn't mean we all "stepped over the line". It was an immediate reaction to the new information posted and people would've calmed down without intervention in time.

If certain members broke the rules, ban them. Don't institute a forum lock down that'll only serve to wind people up more.

I was one of the calm ones, it was this forum lockout that pushed me from denial to anger.

I hope that, as regrettable as it is that some people have been giving abuse to the bioware employees, it has at least got them to realise how we feel about this whole ending fiasco. Continuing to hold the line, no matter the forum!

See this is what I'm talking about. Don't just blow off the fact that people have been insulting and beyond rude. It's wrong and it makes our whole position weaker. People that are insulting and rude are wrong and shouldn't be excused.

I'm not saying what they did was right. I think that they were wrong to do it, but I just want something from bioware to at least acnowledge that they understand how we feel, not just say that they are listening to feedback continuously.

I'm confused. I think I missed a Big Thing while I was having coffee...

I don't think we should be saying mean things about people at all. Clever satirical things, yes. But not mean things.

Okay, okay. Stop it. You make it sound like the forum was exploding with abuse and shouting.
It wasn't. Some of us were angry, sure. But outright abuse? Hell no.

Of course, locking it makes it look like exactly this happened to the rest of the community. Just saying.

This. Just because some people put '*' expressing our anger does not mean it was abuse. They should have saw this coming.

I am not sure its simply the cursing that was the problem. If I recall correctly, there were a few postings raging and talking about bodily harm, involving certain BW employee's heads. Hardly civilized for those of us trying to support the 'Hold The Line'. Hopefully this hasnt harmed the cause, and turned it into what we were protesting against.

I don't understand why it has to be some political machination.

Can't we all be civil and levelheaded because it's the right thing to do?

From what I've been seeing probably not, we started out a few days ago fairly civil, level headed, even nice enough to start a charity drive, someone, myself or unclee and a few others, would remind people to be nice every couple of pages or call out those who started to stray into bad things, from what I read when I got up, almost all of that self control disappeared overnight, release of a new appwith behind the scnes info SHOULD NOT be a reason for all of you to lose your heads, WE KNEW this thing wouldn't have answers or if they did wouldnt have the ones we wanted, I really don't get why everyone exploded over something they already knew.

I'll admit I feel bad for Chris. He's a messenger, he's not pulling any strings at BioWare.

While I don't approve of BioWare's lack or response or any solid attempts at reaching out beyond cryptic "We hear you!" messages, I can't blame Chris for getting frustrated with people. It's a forum, things get angry. In real life people would be stepping out to get some air.

When things have cooled a little, be polite. We can continue the push but we need to ensure we're not just flaming wildly or going off topic or resorting to spam.

^This.

Also keep in mind that devs are legally obligated not to reveal information until they get the go-ahead from Upper Management.

It's quite likely that said Upper Management is still flailing around trying to decide what to do, and want to wait until they've had reviews in from every country it's been released to before making a statement.

Hardly satisfactory, but getting shirty with people whose hands are tied won't solve anything.

If anything, Chris should demand a raise from BW, since he's more or less left holdiing the bag here, even though he's not responsible for the fiasco the ending turned into...

Agree there is nothing gained by insulting the mods or devs. After all if we want them to release a new ending we just have to show that we actually care and will stand up for the game.

So is everybody banned or just the people who posted in that thread?

Pretty much all the threads I have been reading have been civil. So this came as a bit of a suprise, I didnt know it had gone that far. Best thing to do is to stay calm and civil. Bashing gets us nowhere

I totally agree, it might just be the 98% Paragon here or what, but lashing out, using language, and harshly criticizing is not the way to get what the fan base wants. I mean, you all are ruining your own game for yourselves. During the game, we saw heartbreaking moments, moments that took us to tears, and moments that lit us up with laughter. We are all throwing all of that away arguing about the last fifteen minutes of the game. Yes. It could have been better, but that doesn't mean to lash out against the whole game and it creators because of fifteen minutes of not so good scripting. We enjoyed the game, and we want a bigger bang for the ending, that's fine. Let's ask for it peacefully. We didn't bring the whole galaxy together by making war, we made peace. Let's do that here. I may sound like a wuss, but honestly, we are making fools out of ourselves.

Agreed, there are rules here, they crossed them?
Ban them, even thou all they are is really reaching their patience limit.

Locking down the forum for that is like asking everyone who did nothing wrong to just shut up.

What happened to the Anti-ending people who protested peacefully?

Didn't Troll or insult, or cuss or anything. Just said "Hold the Line" and looked at articles. We were acting like adults for soooo long, then an app not even RELEASED by Bioware comes out, and everyone has a **** fit.

Come on guys, don't turn into the thing the media calls us. We can rise above that.

Or you know, just put ****s in your signature, I don't care anymore. I'm disgusted by what the movement has turned into.

I think the '*' count as cusing now.

It's not thew app that people are mad about. It's the talk about the endings and the fact that the fans just might care more about ther series then the people making it do.

The Mass Effect series made me want to go for a job in the gaming industry but after how BW/EA had marketed, and destroyed this fantastic game it has made me back away from working in games. It should be about making a game of the year and pleasing the fans but no...

Now it's all about money. They don't care what they do, or how up set the fans will be. It's all about that mean green. I miss pre EA Bioware.

I will say this, that the fan's are almost always goinf to care more about the series then the creators I mean, they build a world and change it according to what the fan's want, They're like the creator of a car, They don't care if someone crashes their car, because "Hey that's your choice" but the person driving the car? He loves that thing like a second son, and it's the same with video games. People just don't realize it yet.

It really is new to me that an enter forum shuts down for the sake of 1 thread with copyrighted content. Does Presley not get any backup?

I could definitely see this decision being influenced by the companies legal team

Personally I can't help but feel that locking a forum was a bad call (no personal offence meant Chris). It's like damning a furious overflowing river. It's going to get past soon, the difference is it'll all hit at once. Bioware need only acknowledge and address the ending properly and all of this could be averted?!

I wasn't reading the thread that all of this was happening so when the forum shut down I was confused. So yeah, at least where I was looking there wasn't anything crazier than normal.

one thing that does bother me, why didn't make a sticky of his post so everyone can actually see it, rather then dig for it? That was a tad bit emotional i think heh.

yeah, also. if they care about swearing, why dont they have a profanity filter?

Because they beleive, probably wrongly from what I have been reading for the past few minutes, that you are mature enough people to be able to get your point across without having to resort to profanity.

But...there is a profanity filter? Where else do all these ****** come from?

You can get around that.

Would people please calm down already?!  if your that angry and need to vent, back away from the computer, go outside and scream, or find a punching bag, or go for a run, or something.  Screaming about Bioware being evil online doesn't help anything.

No one's "banned." The forums are just closed from any and all posting while he "cleans up" the thread by banning people that broke the zero tolerance policy for abuse of Bioware employees. Or at least that's what it seems like.

Probably a bad PR move. He could have just banned the individuals involved and left it at that. The *majority* aren't breaking any rules, even if there's a lot of passion flying around in that thread.

People are going to get mad it's human nature. How do you respond to the fact that the ending of your favorite franchise was jotted down on a single peice of notebook paper one night? How do you respond to the fact that they cut out great content because it was 'too long' or 'unnecessary'? People will calm down again, but this information is mindblowing.

People need to get the rage out. So let's just chill out with the condescention, ok?
