It's not pretty.

MASS EFFECT 3 Protests Prove Annie Wilkes Is The Patron Saint of Fandom

"Fandom's worst side comes out as gamers rage against the end of MASS EFFECT 3."

The article itself doesn't have spoilers, but the comments do.

When 95%+ of the fanbase agree you screwed up... you screwed up.

Like anyone really cares what "badass" "digest" thinks.

It's hilarious that the writer uses Lost as an example when Bioware specifically said they wouldn't do what Lost did.

As for "artistic vision"... well, I have no respect for artistic vision when it's lazily written and full of plot holes.

They're an excellent site if you love films and film production. The game industry could use its own badass digest.

I laughed when the very first sentence says "I haven't played the game yet" and later admits that he doesn't know if the ending is good or bad and claims that it doesn't matter.

I get it, he's saying that voicing our displeasure is wrong no matter what the circumstances are, that game developers are above reproach and should never be questioned. That whatever they do, no matter if it's expressing their vision or a simple screwup, we as fans have no say in the matter.

He simply doesn't get it, this is not fans demanding a happy Disney ending or disagreeing with an artful and controversial ending to the series.  This is fans saying "you didn't deliver what you promised and you screwed up the ending when you could have ended it in a million different ways, whether it be sad, bleak, or hopeful".

The author, guys, is an idiot.

Uh oh, if we start discussing the ending in this forum, we're looking at a full ME3 forum lockdown, not just the Story & Campaign forums...

I've never even heard of this site.

They don't owe us to rewrite the ending. But if they want my money, they will do it. It's all about the Benjamins.

I guess in this day and age, it's too much to expect 'journalists' to actually do research before writing articles. Most of the gaming reporting I see is no better than forums posts.

Blasto: Someone Enkindled This Forum

Heh... the extracts from the Blasto: Partners In Crime movie had me in stitches. Elcor + Hanar cops... AWESOME. Maybe Mass Effect 4: Blasto Returns?

Heh..- Blasto. Though, just something I thought i'd throw out. They promised a conclusive end to Shepards journey; ME3 ending it. Then.. why did, if ones EMS was high enough and you chose the Strawberry ending, did he breath; thus implying he's still alive.

They keep calling us fans, because fans and their rabid fandom are easy to dismiss. We are consumers and customers who have been given a sub-par product and we want it fixed.

lol

I saw the header image and closed the page.

People telling me I have no right to complain while complaining at me have zero credibility.

The Forbes articles seem to think differently. Funny how a business writers take is so different then the take of "the industry"

lol well this article got destroyed in the comments, its ignorant and disgusting and completely misses the point. People need to pay attention to forbes, they explain why the campaign is in its right to do it, and forbes agrees with the campaign. There on our side, and that means alot more than this moron.

I like this comment on the article:

"I can't help mentioning that in King's book (less so in the movie), it's shown that Annie does actually help him write better to an extent, shooting down his clumsy retcon for Misery's survival and forcing him to come up with something better."

It's the site for the Alamo Drafthouse, a movie theater in Austin, TX.

Think of it as Penny Arcade or Order of the Stick for film geeks.

I agree with the guy to a point... making a whole petition and campaign to make Mass Effect devs change the ending is over the top. If you hate the ending and want to voice/vent your displeasure, saying you'll question buying anything by the same developers or even publishers, I think that's perfectly fine. Your wallet makes more of a difference in this case than full-on active protest. It's not like we're in a civil rights movement or something.

As an example, personally I already knew Dragon Age II was crap from the demo and all the gameplay videos I saw. So I never bought it. Not to mention of the story I read, I was completely disinterested. In all honesty I didn't particularly enjoy Origins as much as I wanted to, either. That's just me.

Right now, I'm already ticked off by the fact that the face import feature STILL hasn't been fixed for ME3, or at least we're not getting regular updates about what the deal is with it, so right now I'm highly questioning Bioware's professional standing and am definitely going to question purchases of any future titles, Mass Effect or otherwise. There is really nothing much else to do besides voicing your displeasure and questioning any future support of the company. It is a private corporation after all. They listen to money, so hit them where it hurts. If they don't deliver, don't buy their stuff. Look for something else to satisfy what you're looking for.
