Seriously, I thought people were going all psycho over nothing until I experienced it myself.

For what we paid for the CE I think we should have got a LOT better payoff.

I wonder if the DLC will actually give us a real ending that explains what happened to the whole team.

One thing I missed out on my first playthrough was Conrad because I think I must have done something to him in ME1 because he didn't appear in ME2 on this character. My other one has him though... I still think Conrad should have saved the universe... Mr Conrad "I sometimes look through crates for credits" Verner.

Think of it as Penny Arcade or Order of the Stick for film geeks.

To be honest, Penny Arcade still acts like paid reviewers whenever they talk about games, or they throw in 90 words that they probably don't even rationally understnad.

For instance, their ME3 review.

I haven't played Mass Effect 3 yet. I've been in Austin for SXSW all week, and my copy is waiting for me to get home. That means I don't know how the game ends, and I don't know if the ending is good or trash.

MASS EFFECT 3 Protests Prove Annie Wilkes Is The Patron Saint of Fandom

"Fandom's worst side comes out as gamers rage against the end of MASS EFFECT 3."

The article itself doesn't have spoilers, but the comments do.

What the writer pretty much said...

"So guys I just want you all to know that I've never had sex before, but I can tell you right now that it sucks and you shouldn't complain about not getting it."

That, and the writer of the article has more fallacy than a book published by Penguin.

I'm going to quote something I wrote earlier today as I feel it fits in response to this article.

"So I was talking to my Dad about this whole situation ( he's a
producer/writer so I enjoy talking media and entertainment with him),
and asked him what he thought about it. He was saying how it's
completely within the rights of a consumer to request changes to a work
of art, and sometimes developers and creators must sacrifice their pride
and visions to do whats best for the consumers and fans. Because when
it all comes down to it your not making a movie, game, or book for you,
but  for the people buying and experiencing your work."

I can whine, ****, moan, whelp, yell, scream, whisper, rant, vocalize, talk, discuss, fuss, reminisce, complain, and gripe about any damned thing I want to. If I want to demand that bioware make a new ending to the game. I damn well can. I paid $60 dollars for it. If they don't want to make a better ending, then fine. WHATEVER. But that doesn't mean I'm going to like it.

Will bioware care? Hell no they won't care if I like it. But for someone to call me a self-righteous, entitled whiner because I complain about "a game that required extraordinary effort and sacrifice from the developers who face the scrutiny of fans who don't know the first thing about game development", I say you're right. I AM A WHINY SELF-RIGHTEOUS ENTITLED GAMER, because I have a god damned right to be. IF you don't like me for it, whatever. It's just the internet.

Devil's Advocacy.. you don't need to play the game proper to register whiny internet behaviour, no matter how (in one's own opinion) justified it may be.

But when such adamant hate for something is stated.. it usually means it cuts a bit close for comfort to elicit such.

To date, I've been fine with the people campaigning for alternative endings...that is until they started getting more spiteful/hateful in expressing their displeasure. It's to the point where it's ridiculous, and I don't/can't respect a lot of them - I mean, wtf was that Mac Walters comment in that Final Hours thread earlier (and they were quoting it repeatedly)???? This whole thing is starting to give me this vibe of being in the Coliseum in Rome with people crying out for blood and violence. And that's too bad, because I think people have valid reasons about why they don't like the endings. I might completely disagree with them that the existing endings are out of line with themes in the series, especially when issue of sentience and personhood in synthetics is explored pretty deeply (to me) in the third game, but I believe that they have a right to express their displeasure (civilly).

I do believe that creative control ultimately resides with the artists & writers, but because this is an interactive media and because there are precedents (like the FO3 ending), I figured, eh, why not as long as they're acting in a reasonable manner? It wouldn't be that bad and maybe they can get the closure they need. Now though, I really am kind of leaning towards the Annie Bates view of a certain segment of the fandom. People want to tear down the game (which is good and undeniably a moving experience on the whole) and the company...because they can't handle endings that are so ambiguous and want to pull apart the "plot holes" like the...thing that I guess I can't talk about here. I loved Lost, and I wasn't thrilled by the ending, but so be it - I accepted that it was the vision of the authors. And it didn't diminish the rest of the series either.

I wouldn't go insulting him, but a lot of times they seem to do that just to make it harder to understand what they're saying, and worse, they did act negative to the community.

The idea that control doesn't rest with the authors...that's an insane idea, it's impossible to think that. Can you will something into existence?

It is asking, not asserting direct control.

Then as far as I am concerned, your opinion doesn't matter to me.
If the ending never changes, that's fine I can live with it. I will still love Mass Effect.<3
Im just not a fan of being left with more questions than answers.

Well, I've always said, people who haven't finished Mass Effect 3, really, really shouldn't be making comments either way.

They have no credibility on the subject. The simplest analogy is this :

Burns don't hurt. I've never been burned. How can anyone possibly say with any credibility?

They are certainly entitled to their opinions, oh yes, but then by using the right to have an opinion to instead bash and dismiss as stupid, well, why should we listen to what they have to say as well? Bioware doesn't need to listen to abusive fans, fans don't need to listen to abusive journalists.
