Catalyst - Hello, Neo.
Shepard - Who are you?
The Catalyst - I am the Catalyst.I've been waiting for you. You have many questions, and although theprocess has altered your consciousness, you remain irrevocably human. Ergo, some of my answers you will understand, and some of them you will not. Concordantly, while your first question may be the most pertinent, you may or may not realize it is also the most irrelevant.
Shepard - Why am I here?
The Catalyst - I have studied you and your race for the past 50,000 years. Watched your race and others like it grow, manufacture Synthetics and inevaitably lose control. You are the eventuality of an anomaly, which despite my sincerest efforts I have been unable to eliminate from what is otherwise a harmony of complete organic life. While it remains a burden assiduously avoided, it is not unexpected, and thus not beyond a measure of control. Which has led you, inexorably, here.
Sheoard - You haven't answered my question.
The Catalyst - Quite right. Interesting. That was quicker than the others.
The Catalyst - This Galaxy is older than you. I prefer counting from the emergence of one highly intelligent species to the emergence of the next, in which case this is the sixth version.
Shepard - So the Protheans weren't the first?
The Catalyst - Nor will they be the last.
Shepard - Choice. The problem is choice.
*The scene cuts to your crew fighting a Reaper, and then back to the Citadel*
Shepard - Who or what came before the Protheans?
The Catalyst - Do you really think that is an appropriate question? You are here because Earth and the rest of the known Galaxy is about to be destroyed. Its every living inhabitant terminated, its entire existence eradicated.
Shepard - Bull****. What gives you the right?
The Catalyst - Denial is the most predictable of all human responses. But, rest assured, this will be the sixth time we have destroyed it, and we have become exceedingly efficient at it.
*Scene cuts to your crew fighting a Reaper, and then back to the Architects room.*
Shepard - You won't let it happen, you can't. We have proved that Synthetic and Organic life can live together. *Gives examples*
The Catalyst - The truce between the Geth and Quarians will only last so long. This is not the first time we have tried to be reasoned with on this issue. However, the relevant issue is whether or not you are ready to accept the responsibility for the death of every human being in this world along with every other advanced species?
*Shepard walks toward a screen. The screen flashes form Human to Asari, Turian, Krogan etc*
The Catalyst - It is interesting reading your reactions. The five before you were of a similar nature, they had a profound attachment to the rest of there species. While this again is true for you, your profound attachment lies with your crew.
The Catalyst - Apropos, they entered the battle to save your life at the cost of there own.
Shepard - No!
The Catalyst - Which brings us at last to the moment of truth, wherein the fundamental flaw is ultimately expressed, and the anomaly revealed as both beginning, and end. There are two doors. The door to your right leads to the source, and the salvation of your Galaxy. The door to the left leads back to the battle, to them, and to the end of all advanced species. As you adequately put, the problem is choice. But we already know what you're going to do, don't we? Already I can see the chain reaction, the chemical precursors that signal the onset of emotion, designed specifically to overwhelm logic, and reason. An emotion that is already blinding you from the simple, and obvious truth: they are going to die, and there is nothing that you can do to stop it.
*Shepard chooses which way to walk*
Door on the right choice.(Paragon Choice)
The Catalyst - We will return to finish what is already a forgone conclusion.
Shepard - And we'll be ready.
*Depending on EMS ratings. High EMS shows Reapers pulling out. Normandy gets clipped and crash lands on Earth. If EMS is low everyones dead. If high then they live.*
Door on the left choice.(Renegade Choice)
The Catalyst - Humph. Hope, it is the quintessential human delusion, simultaneously the source of your greatest strength, and your greatest weakness.Shepard - If I were you, I would hope that we don't meet again. The Catalyst - We won't.
*Shows Shepard running to a nearby comm station and calling in a favour form Admiral Hackett. Hackett takes the Reaper attacking the Normandy out but dies in the process. Crew and Shepard make it away but must watch as Reapers destroy everyone and everything they know*
How hard could it have been?
