It is something i wanted to ask since my first play-through, but i always forget about it.

It's obvious(for me) that Dr. Manuel has also received the message from the beacon, shortly(at least relatively) before the Normandy arrived.  If so, in my opinion, he should've been more important to the story, as he quite correctly(despite being "unstable) understood the Prothean message. At least some scenes, where Commander Shepard is trying to get some additional clues from him, would be logical.

I'm not sure but I think he's in the Fire walker dlc. His name is mentioned in some datapads and you come across his corpse towards the end.

Woah, I forgot about the guy at the Prothean site in ME2, was that him, can't say more without spoiling 2 for those who read this and haven't played it yet.
