Yes. Also that.

Maximum survived? by the end of the game my galaxy map had near enough every single place as a Reaper occupied territory and I assume if you don't do side missions that is the same as well, wouldn't that signify those species lost the battle anyway?
Newsflash: Earth is Reaper occupied territory too, and the game assumes there are enough survivors to make "take back Earth" still valid (then again we all know the ending invalidates that anyway).

Given Anderson's multiple references to the Reapers "focusing on city centers" a Reaper showing up doesn't mean instant death for everyone. Plus, they would have been more effective defending their own systems without commiting forces to Shepard.

Yes, your decisions and building your fleet do matter...they make the ending WORSE.
Wow I didn't even think about this...this is a really good point

i had low a EMS so all of earth and my alliance troops were vaporized with the destroy choice
with a high EMS, earth survives the destroy choice as well as many of the alliance troops
with a very high EMS, Shepard survives the destroy option, and so do earth and alliance troops

And MORE troops/ships get stranded on Earth... while they could be closer to their home planet, since the Reapers were destroyed Galaxy wide, they could return to their homeplanets and rebuoild there, instead of being trapped on earth

A high enough EMS to ensure that the first option you mentioned doesn't occur, but low enough that you don't needlessly strand more people on Earth.
Understand also that tounge is firmly planted against cheek in this post.

What are you assuming is the "best" ending?
This is the best setup for the ending. As for the ending itself, what's your favorite color? I like red.

The OP's point is: the more allied fleets you bring to Earth, the more allied fleets you have stranded if Earth survives, which means more people on a planet with limited ability to sutain life. And that not only means that more people will starve, but they'll all starve SOONER.
So if you want the MOST people to survive the endgame, bring as FEW people as possible to Earth.
Not sure how right OP is, but it's certainly an interesting perspective.

I would prefer to be wrong on this.
