No way! I don't remember anything like that..maybe two elements? Or maybe you got different types of zodiac read, that's why three? Then again I've no idea how much deeper it goes than this..tell us more!Humanoid_Taifun wrote...
I didn't read the entire thing, but don't you usually have like three animals (and elements) assigned to you by the Chinese zodiac?

So, there is one for your year of birth, one for the month, one for the hour and apparently also one for the day (though that one isn't explained any further).
So for example, by year, I'm a yang fire tiger and by month I'm a fire horse (pretty hot, huh?) and the hour animal is supposed to be kept secret.

So for example, by year, I'm a yang fire tiger and by month I'm a fire horse (pretty hot, huh?) and the hour animal is supposed to be kept secret.
Here it is!!: "In Chinese astrology the animal signs assigned by year represent what others perceive you as being or how you present yourself. It is a common misconception that the animals assigned by year are the only signs, and many western descriptions of Chinese astrology draw solely on this system. In fact, there are also animal signs assigned by month (called inner animals) and hours of the day (called secret animals)."
Just to note here, this is somewhat similar to the Western Zodiac and your Moon Sign (representing your inner self, as opposed to your perceived, outer self represented by your star(/Sun)sign). The misconception of only the publicised, external one existing seems to appear in both.
"To sum it up, while a person might appear to be a dragon because they were born in the year of the dragon, they might also be a snake internally and an ox secretively. In total, this makes for 8,640 possible combinations (5 elements x 12 animals in the 60 year cycle (12 x 5 = 60) , 12 months, 12 times of day) that a person might be. These are all considered critical for the proper use of Chinese astrology[citation needed]."
And it says it gets more accurate as you get closer to the actual time, so hour would be most accurate/important..why, then, is it perpetuated to care only for the year?? +I wonder the same about the moon vs star sign. Bizarre.
Oh, + for people who don't like their animal version, some of them are interpreted:
"[edit] Problems with English translation
Due to confusion with synonyms during translation, some of the animals depicted by the English words did not exist in ancient China. For example, 羊 can mean both goat and sheep, but goat is the species that existed in central China before sheep, and goat is the species seen in illustrations, not sheep. Similarly, 鼠 (rat) can also be translated as mouse, as there are no distinctive words for the two genera in Chinese. Further, 豬 (pig) is sometimes translated to boar after its Japanese name, and 牛 (water buffalo) is commonly thought to be ox."
So you get a choice!
Also this notion was quite interesting:
"The order of 12 Chinese zodiac animals was based on the number of toes/hooves, alternating between even and odd numbers. Rat was the first because unlike other animals of the Chinese zodiac which all had the same number of toes/hooves on each leg, rat has four toes on the front legs and five on the rear legs, so it was selected to be number one. Ox is second with four hooves on each leg, and tiger is the third three with five toes, hare is the fourth with four toes, dragon is next in line with five fingers on its claw, while snake ranks number six because it lacked any legs and zero is an even number, etc."
I come third in the Trine honour hierarchy
So, you're...a Gemini?? I'm a Yang Fire Tiger too! I suspect we're the same age though I was born just before you, month Fire Snake (which is...odd?) - so I'm pretty hot myself *licks finger, presses it against self, hears the sizzle* Yep, hot stuff
Solar Term lìxià - I have no idea what that means but it sounds pretty so I'm content.
(Edit: Gotcha! 09:25, Snake (Yin, 2nd Trine, Fixed Element Fire) - fire AGAIN! I AM ON FIRE!! And the characteristics describe me quite well)
P.S. I completely forgot about the story about the race and how the rat won (though this one's slightly different from how I remember it). Reading it was a blast from the past!

Yes, water pig also.
