Does Mass Effect 3 have the WORST video game ending of all time?

I've seen a lot of people say this. There are countless amounts of video games out there and let's face it, there are lazier and more horribly coded endings out there. In fact some game's don't even have endings, going back to the old 8 to 16 bit days.

But...

Let's think about this, and look at the circumstances surrounding Mass Effect. It's a trilogy that gets the player very invested in the story, characters and the choices they make. The devs also continously boasted about how your choices throughout the trilogy will have an effect on the the end, and that the endings will vary in "wildly" different ways. Then looks look at the widespread outrage of fans who felt betrayed and lied to. I've never seen this much disappointment over an ending.

With that being said, given the circumstances, I think Mass Effect 3 could very well have the worst ending in Video Game history, in terms of the impact it caused. There's worse endings, but none of them affected the players like ME3 did.

What are your feelings on this?

If we're speaking in absolute terms, I'd say no, but that would depend on what your idea of a bad ending is.

In relative terms, though - comparing the quality of the ending to the rest of the game and to the endings of ME 1 & 2 - I'd say without a doubt.

No. Mass Effect 3 did not have the worst ending ever, but it had one of the biggest falls ever. If an entire game is **** you don't expect a great ending, but this was so antisepated, so hyped, and even 99% of the game itself was beyond epic, so the ending seems that much worse. The ending was ****, and it was intensified by the fact that everyone knows Bioware can do so much better.

Yes, it is the worst possible ending that the trillogy of the game could deserve in gaming history. What good writer put audience to be so connected with all the characters for 5 years and close down the story like that.

Think about it, if JK Rowling wrote this is all just a dream and Voldemot is never real, Harry potter is just a dream of a kid, at the last paragraph of the 7th book where you read from the 1st book till the last one... don't you think you wouldn't want to choke her if you see her face to face?

Without a doubt the worst ending of all time.

Technically there are "worse" endings. However Mass Effect killed one of the greatest franchises of all time in the blink of an eye. It even made the older titles unplayable.

So yet again, there may be worse endings, but none caused the deflation and destruction that ME3's did.

I don't know about objectively the worst, but I know of at least one ending that made me just about as angry, although there was nothing about it that could be done in the end.

I bought it late, long after Ion Storm was done for, and experienced one of the funniest, most enjoyable games I ever played in Anachronox. And then it all ends in a cliffhanger for a second game that would never happen, and I raged.

But other than that, I can't think of any other ending that infuriated and disappointed me more than ME3.

(BTW, Anachronox just came out on GOG, and even with the unfulfilled cliffhanger, it's really an awesome game.)

Depends on your criteria.

It made me feel worse than any video game ending I've ever played. That's unusual. Generally I just feel, "lol this ending sucked" at the end of a bad game ending. How do you factor in personal response outside of technical expertise?

I'm not sure. Of all the games I have played since I was 10, this is the most disappointing. I remember i finished final fantasy 10 and was pretty sad about it, but i felt complete. Tidus died for a reason and it felt like it fit.

Mass Effect 3's ending is just bad and had stuff come out of nowhere.

It feels like the worst possible thing ever, because the mountain was so high.

Relative to what it ends, absolulely. I've never even approached disappointment like this before, for anything.

If you qualify it a bit then maybe.

In contrast to what first 2 games were build up to and promises from devs. Yes, yes it does.

If ME3 was actually ME1 and new IP from Bioware, then no, it would just be meh.

Considering the time most of us have invested (nearly 5 years) and how brilliant it was before those last 5 minutes: yes, it is the worst video game ending of all time.

Has to be. Anything that can retroactively make the previous titles unplayable.

Worst game? Not by a long shot.
Worst game ending? Probably
Shortest time to kill a successful franchise? Without a doubt.

I actually thought the ending was pretty amazing. I mean, it's so damn amazing how it was able to destroy an entire trilogy with a 100+hrs of gameplay in just 5 minutes. Truly magnificent.

It not only ends Shepard's story, but basically kills the franchise, so I'd have to say YES.

Golden Axe was worse, but that wasn't exactly a story driven game.
For a game that's so focused on, and so successfully builds, a great story... I honestly can't think of one that's worse. I'm sure there's some obscure JRPG out there that pulls it off, but ME3 managing to completely undo a fantastic trilogy worth of storytelling, yeah that is "impressive".
(Golden Axe ending is actually looking pretty good and makes about as much sense as space kid right about now... http://www.youtube.c...PIS-kN0#t=410s' class='bbc_url' title='Lien externe' rel='nofollow external'>Here you go)
