Certainly the worst of any I've played. Man....I can't even believe I'm saying that now. Playing through ME1 and ME2 I just KNEW in my heart that Bioware will send this series off with a bang. The worst part is they did for 98% of the game.

I would have NEVER anticipated that Mass Effect, the best franchise I've ever played would also hold the category for worst ending of any game I've played...wow...

Worst ending ever? I doubt it.

But it is the worst ending which I will always remember.

In 5 or 10 years when someone mentions Mass Effect, my thoughts will always go to how horribly they ended the trilogy, instead of all the awesome parts that will be forgotten, the ending is what ME will be remembered for, which is sad.

God I hope you're wrong... I remember literally being emotional when the remnants of the Alliance/Citadel fleets blasted Sovereign to pieces. When Admiral Hacket gave the order to "Hit it with everything we've got."

Greatest franchise ever, it's not to late fot them to save the franchise. Fix the end....

Worst of all time, no.

The worst compared to the rest of the content, YES.

I thought it was awful at first, but after spending a solid week thinking about it, it all makes sense now. They just left too many damn holes, it was really hard to figure out what was going on, and what the writers were trying to say/do.

I think you are right. No matter how BW choose to resolve this years from now I will always remember the horrible epic failure of an ending they provided us with. And im pretty sure a lot of people will too.
Sure, I will remember the good parts as well. But what I will remember the most was the anger and disappointment I felt over the ending.
Im pretty sure that Mass Effect 3 is a contestant to go down in gaming history as the game with the most hated ending of all time. Like the ending or not, you can't deny that the negative reactions the ending has gotten is something out of the ordinary. Its not just the typical "angry fans" complaints/reactions anymore.
Whether or not there are games with worse endings out there. ME3 is the game that has gotten most attention, both amongst gamers and in the general public. And great game or not, it's not because of the great gameplay it got it's attention. Not primarily at least.

Maybe its just be being overly dramatic. I don't know. But the ending still makes me sad :(
Sometimes when i like to turture myself i listen to this and imagine what Mass Effect could have been. How epic the ending could have been.

I felt more anger at the end of TLOZ: Wind Waker, which id say is objectively worse, and dumber, but considering the ME3 ending destroys my all time favourite game series, the games I literally dreamt of and wished to thought my whole life made real, I'd say it's easily the worst ending of any game I can think of, without a doubt.

When you add up all the greatness in Mass Effect, ME2, and ME3... Yes.

I've never been one to voice my distaste from a videogame in forums until I beat ME3

Ive played video games for 20 years.

And ME3 has the worst ending of them all.

Ive played countless games and cant even come close to a game that had half as bad ending.

It should win the category: OMGWTF moment in video game: We are expecting to enjoy some of our choice we made throughout the trilogy, but then, only the epilogue about a father and a child instead, no more, no less :)

(Maybe worse than the conclusion of some Halo game that i forgot :)) )

If we're speaking in absolute terms, I'd say no, but that would depend on what your idea of a bad ending is.

In relative terms, though - comparing the quality of the ending to the rest of the game and to the endings of ME 1 & 2 - I'd say without a doubt.

Same here.

I'm with you, OP. There are lots of games out there where the ending ranges from stupid and illogical to outright bad, but frankly, if it's a fun game, I don't usually care. I just move on. Thing is, Mass Effect is not *just a game* to me. It's something that somehow affects me personally, has even made me rethink my personal view of the world a bit, especially in the department of strength through diversity and that nothing has to be set in stone if only you're willing to cooperate. That's why the ending feels like such a slap in the face. Not only does it take my favourite hero ever from me and wrecks some of the best characters I've encountered, it also goes against the principles I've picked up FROM that game! It's insulting.

I haven't played a lot of the other games with really bad endings but out of everything I have played, ME3 WAS the worst ending.

As far as impact to the fans and the uproar that ensued, I would say yes. The worst of all time.

For me I would have to say it is. Almost like they forgot they were ending a trilogy and was just focused on setting up there next cash cow series in the mass effect universe. Not saying that is what happened just how it feels to me.

Game to almost kill the gaming industry would be ET.
Game ending that killed a trilogy for some would be Mass Effect 3.

Maybe not the same scale but would not be what I would want the game to be remembered for. The only question now is would the ending stop people from buying another game from bioware set in the same universe. Promises are fine when one keeps them but there actions on the ending does not match what they gave us. Atleast it was not so bad of a ending it got people to stop playing video games all together.

Considered as the ending sequence only: no, I've seen far worse.

Considered as the ending to a single game: nope, I've seen dumber things in 20+ years of gaming.

Considered as the ending to a series: yes.

Considered as the ending to a series exhibiting the quality that Mass Effect previously has, and did for a good part of ME3: absolutely yes.

I hated the ending of NWN2. No matter what i did there were always at least two memebers of my party who wanted to attack me in the end.

ME3 ending is still worse.

Of all time? No.

However, if I consider the games that I've actually liked in my experience playing? It would probably be the third most disappointing ending since Metal Gear Solid, and Knights of the Old republic II in the games that I have actually liked and played. If that makes sense.

The ending on itself is not bad IF is was made for a totally different game.
But compared to how good ME1, ME2 and ME3 are with all its characters and storytelling ( which you get to shape partially) then yes this ending is the worst possible ending ever.

In what could or should have been done? Yes. Mass Effect had much farther to fall because it was so high in regards to quality.

So yes, it has the worst ending of all time.

Worst game ending for a trilogy? Without a doubt

Are you serious, did you see the end of Halo 2 and 3, or Advent Rising ther was a great rilogy ending they only got through one game. how about the ending to Ninja Gaiden (xbox). How about then ending to every fighting game ever, The entire last 1/4 of L.A. Niore completely made no sense at all. ANyone who thinks ME3 has the worst ending in anything needs to play moe games.

Not of all time. Probably the worst in a RPG though.

I'm pretty easily amused. I was fine with DA2, even the ending. Borderlands was fun. I didn't care about the plot, I was just having fun killing stuff. ME3... not happy with the ending but worst ever? Naah. I don't think I've even been as pissed (and confused!) as I was after finishing Eternal Sonata.
