Nope. Ever played the RPG Gothic 3?
Holy **** that was bad. You basically walked to a terribly textured stone and that is it. Admittedly the hole game was plain bad and it hurted so much because I loved and still love the predecessors enormously.
Assassin's Creed 2 also was terrible and this cartoonish Prince of Persia was very ugly. Dragon Age 2 and The Witcher 2 also pissed me off.
Generally I am often displeased with ending but interestingly enough I like the ending to the Mass Effect saga.
Does Mass Effect 3 have the WORST video game ending of all time?

Its far from the worst ending ever. However, the problem is that the ME series like no other series before is based around story investment and decisionmaking. Both is pretty much destroyed by this ending. So the ending destroys the entire series.

If you think about all the build up to this one moment, then yes, it's a huge failure. It does not deliver a satisfying end to the series.
But compared to every other game ever made, it's hard to say. I've seen some really bad endings.

Yep. This is going to become legend. The legend of 'the Bioware' who brought about an apocalypticly awful ending that damaged their customer base.

There are plenty of games that can't even be beaten because of some design flaw, particularly earlier games.
But this is just above it.

As far as an experience goes, i would say yes. Most other games with bad endings werent deeply story driven games that let you really get sucked into them.

May be going out on a limb here, but I seem to recall just about every Atari 2600 game having a horrible ending.

No it does not. I think the feels so bad because the rest of the series is a masterpiece.

Yes. Because it follows a near-perfect game. Bah! It follows a near-perfect trilogy. To end it like this seems like an abomination.

The worst ending for closure in my opinion. I would've been fine with everything else if I knew what happened to everyone after and if I wasn't speculating that no mattter what I did everyone died regardless or got stranded.
I'm trying to hold onto the indoctrination theory. I know it may not happen and I'm not trying to be too attached to it, but I'm trying to reject the idea that this is the ending of a trilogy for one of the most epic characters of all time.
I never had a problem with DA2's ending storywise like many other people did, but it made me appreciate the DA2 ending so much more...

If you count "badness" as the difference in quality between the ending and the rest of the game/series, then I have no doubt that ME3 has the worst ending of all time.

I hated Fable 2's ending quite a bit because I despised that old man and then the other dude just shot him. Sucked.

Well, out of context no. Actually it's pretty standard fair for like the one hour Sci-Fi shorts or something. Or even a short story or book. Not going to win any awards-but pretty standard.
But in the context of the rest of the game, and the rest of the series? Yeah it's bad-real bad. I've played games with worse endings-but never one I cared about or seemed so out of place.
So I'd say it is the worst ending to happen to an otherwise decent---> outstanding game. Definitely the greatest fall.
EVEN if it was some kind of placeholder so they could do something at least half way sensible-it is the ending (or nonending) that came with the game as shipped. And that is what it has to be judged on.
It's so, so bad inside the context of the rest of the series. That is myself (and alot of people) think it has to be some kind of half finished cliffhanger or joke or something. If it was tacked on to like-the new Syndicate or something. It might actually be OK. Even if it was out of line with the rest of the game.
(Please note: I have not played the new Syndicate, and don't plan to. I have no idea how it ends, just used it as an example)

Its been said, but I'm fairly certain to define it as the worst ending isn't hyperbole.
But thats because we aren't defining worst ending in a vacuum. If a game sucks and has a terrible ending, that ending is probably comparatively worse than the ending of ME3, but there was no value to the game anyway so its not a big loss.
ME3 is defined as having the worst ending because it goes from the highest of the highs straight down through the cellar.
It's the massive dropoff which qualifies it as the worst ending, and that's the context it's discussed in.

I would say it's the worst possible ending the Mass Effect series can have. It's compounded by the time you put into the game and the removal of any meaningful player choices and how they play out due to decisions made by the player. Couple that with poor writing and it just makes a bad ending seem even worse, primarily because it destroys expectations in a bad way.
Other games may have worse endings for a variety or reasons, but the Mass Effect 3 ending just lets you down something terrible.

Bwahaha! **** Reaver!
I think what left me at tears is the ending to Conker's Bad Fur Day.
Conker DID NOT ask for any of that ****. Literally...
As far as having the worst ending, nah.

Yes, I believe it does.
Before ME3, that honor for me went to KOTOR 2. Now that game was a bit similar to ME3, in the fact that it was abso-freaking excellent up until the last hour, when it was obvious that Obsidian ran out of time and just half-assed everything.
ME3 is SO much worse, because of the fact that its ending is the conclusion of not just one, but THREE great games. Also, it turns out that the awful ending was not due to time constraints, but was actually INTENDED. Bye the creators. Ugh. That fact alone makes the ME3 ending on another level of smoking crap heap. I mean, it would have been somewhat understandable (if unfortunate) that they were forced to implement such a bad ending if they were under time constraints. But the fact that they actually wrote out this garbage and thought it would be a fitting end to the series... well, that is just fail on a god-like level.

Its definitely going down in history as one of the worst.
And future bad games will be quoted with "they frickin pulled a shepard on us". Heh. =(

Definitely the worst ending to a trilogy by far.
I don't know if it's the worst I've ever seen in a single game, but it's up there pretty high.

I honestly don't think there is. Obviously, if you take a bad game overall you expect a bad ending. Its a given. Taking that into account you really have to contextualize it and see that there hasn't been an ending for a game of this caliber that has caused so much outrage and discontent.

Worst ending? No.
Worst fail? Hmm, Spore vs. ME3 ... tough call for me.

I would say it is, easily.
The series ran on the promise that your decisions mattered. That last segment of the game proved that your decisions did not matter at all: the army you spent all game building no-shows and because regardless of what you pick you get basically the same ending. That last level alone was disappointing, but then the final 10 minutes completely obliterates everything you've ever had an impact on. More or less everyone you've ever spoken with dies or is destroyed. Everything you've saved or spoken to is killed. And those that live do so because of plot holes plot holes plot holes.
