If I judge an ending by how much it has let me down and how terrible it has made me feel, then yes, Mass Effect 3 most certainly has the worst ending I've ever experienced.

Maybe not the worst objectively.

But it's certainly a contender for 'laziest' or 'biggest cop-out'.

Clive Barker's Jericho holds that esteemed honour.

The quality of the game, and the previous it's bad. Is it the worse? No.

By far the worse game I've played with the most terrible ending has been Star Wars Force Unleashed 2, you want to talk about gaps...

I actually thought the ending was pretty amazing. I mean, it's so damn amazing how it was able to destroy an entire trilogy with a 100+hrs of gameplay in just 5 minutes. Truly magnificent.

hehehehe that made me laugh!Image IPB

It's certainly the most dissapointing ending of all the games I've played, and I think the most dissapointing ending of a Bioware game ever.

That depends, are we comparing it to the core game? is which case

YES

Simple logic exercise.
Question: Have I ever felt so let down at the end of any other game?
Answer: no
Therefore this is the worst ending of any game I've ever played.

Yes
Because first: you could'nt possibly screw up this hard
second: the bigger the expectations and promises made by the developpers the harder the fall when you discover it's an uter joke

So yeah it's definitly the worst ending, an ending that blew up a whole awsome trilogy

I've seen a lot of people say this. There are countless amounts of video games out there and let's face it, there are lazier and more horribly coded endings out there. In fact some game's don't even have endings, going back to the old 8 to 16 bit days.

But...

Let's think about this, and look at the circumstances surrounding Mass Effect. It's a trilogy that gets the player very invested in the story, characters and the choices they make. The devs also continously boasted about how your choices throughout the trilogy will have an effect on the the end, and that the endings will vary in "wildly" different ways. Then looks look at the widespread outrage of fans who felt betrayed and lied to. I've never seen this much disappointment over an ending.

With that being said, given the circumstances, I think Mass Effect 3 could very well have the worst ending in Video Game history, in terms of the impact it caused. There's worse endings, but none of them affected the players like ME3 did.

What are your feelings on this?

I think as a matter of contrast between the quality and style of ME 1, 2, and 3 (first 95%) and the ending -- YES.

Other games have had worse endings, but they tended to be pitiful games the whole way through. Mass Effect only transforms into a joke in it's climactic meeting-with-god scene and the absurd Normandy crash.

In my opinion Mass Effect 3 does in fact have the worst ending of any video game because there is no ending in any video game that can cause the extreme emotion of depression I felt upon competing this game.

There certainly are games where the ending is written even worse (hard to believe but true) and are even more of a head scratcher, but none of those games come close to bringing about the extreme disappointment I felt after completing Mass Effect 3. None of those games made me stop gaming altogether for a few days because of how disheartened I was. None of those games made me go to a forum to find out if other people shared the same disappointment as me. It was more of a, "well that sucked", and then I moved on.

But I still can't move on from this game. I'd say that is about the worst it can get.

For me, yes. It's far worse because it was such a sudden fall from grace. Bad endings to bad games aren't anywhere near as awful as bad endings to good games. And ME3's ending was so far beyond bad it has ruined the entire franchise for many.

Not sure about 'worst ending ever' but it certainly effected me more than any other game, book, movie or TV show ever has. Not enjoying the feeling at all.

In terms of substance and vagueness, yes it does. The only other game that potentially rivals it is...Actually there isn't any.

I dunno... It's not quite as bad as the endings of BioShock or Deus Ex HR.

Mass Effect 3 has the worst ending of all time because it killed Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3 simultaneously. I never saw a development team capable of or willing to do that until Bioware with Mass Effect 3's ending. It's both impressive and depressing that they managed to pull it off. Way to go...way to go.

In absoulte terms, there have certainly been worse.

But then again, when we were told that it would be more than just A/B/C and it turned out to be just that, I'm having a hard time cutting it any slack.

At first I was going to say ME3's endings were no where near the worst until I considered how it affected my perspective on it's previous entries.

So, now i agree ME3 is officially the worst ending to a game I've ever seen.

Echo what many have said, most disappointing end to a game ever based purely on the rest of the franchises brilliance and what we were told to expect. Although the positive to come out of this is that part of me is now glad and understands why Valve have not made the final instalment to Half Life.

The ending is only really terrible because the rest of the trilogy was so great.

Compared to your average game it was sub-par or mediocre.

It gets close to Fallout 3 ending, but at least Bethesda fixed it. Oh, and the Dreamfall one (The Longest Journey II) where IIRC was intended to be in some DLC that was never released.

Not the worst, but definitely up there. I'd say the worst ending to a story-driven game trilogy though.

It single handily destroyed this franchise for me. I do not want to playthrough Mass Effect 3 again. I don;t want to play 1 and 2 when I know what 3 offers. last 10 mins ruined an entire franchise.
