If we're speaking in absolute terms, I'd say no, but that would depend on what your idea of a bad ending is.

In relative terms, though - comparing the quality of the ending to the rest of the game and to the endings of ME 1 & 2 - I'd say without a doubt.

Worst in a long while. Especially when you consider the quality of the game, not many triple A trilogies end this terribly.

For me? Yes. At least between all games I ever played. DA2 already was quite disappointing but that... man, it just killed my whole interest in the whole saga! I already knew we were just cows to milk for Bioware but... I wasn't honestly wasn't expecting to be trolled like that.

There are worse endings, yes, but no one really killed my interest like this: I generally went all 'oh, ok, it was horrible' and jumped to the next game, with Mass Effect... I just can't °_°

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say YES, worst ending of all time.

I won't argue that there are worse video game endings by themselves, but IMHO the ME3 ending ruined not only 3, but any urge to replay the other two again for me. So while there are undoubtedly worse endings, the scope here is far, far greater.

Compared to how amazing the rest of the franchise was, yes its the worst ending ever in a videogame for me. Just can't fanthom how all the choices you made across 3 games made no difference but hey they got our $60 and thats all that matters.

I don't know about all time, but it is one of them. I've never seen an ending so thoroughly render hundreds of hours of gameplay and story pointless.

It's like the end of Return of the Jedi being Palpatine exploding, Darth Vader turning into Captain Planet, with everyone fighting stopping and joining in a musical-like rendition of "This is the song that never ends"

That's how terrible this ending is.

All three Fable games had pretty crap-tastic endings. Oblivion's was pretty ridiculous, and it's been brought up numerous times that Fallout 3's ending was pretty dumb, too. If we're talking ends to DLC, Witch Hunt was pretty awful.

*shrug* I'd say there's worse endings out there, but I wasn't as bothered by the endings as most people (though I'm still not too fond of them).

With that being said, given the circumstances, I think Mass Effect 3 could very well have the worst ending in Video Game history, in terms of the impact it caused. There's worse endings, but none of them affected the players like ME3 did.

If there are worse endings, it cannot have the "worst" ending.

And in my humble opinion the synthesis ending is pretty damn good. I loved it.

I doubt it's the worst ending out there, but it sure is the worst ending I've ever experienced.

They were the most painful endings I've experienced in a game, and not in a good way...

Of all time? Probably not.
Of the games I've played? Yes. It would have been better if a wgole trilogy wasn't riding out

Yes, I've never felt so terrible from a gaming experience in my entire life. Horribly written and such a huge departure from the tone and themes that characterized my Sheps career. It was jarring, insulting, painful, just dreadful. I'm 40 and i've been gaming since I got my Atari 2600 and I have never had a gaming experience that I could compare this to, it's been almost a week and I still feel sick.

Worst ending of all time? No, although it is very bad.

Most disappointing? Absolutely - because the quality of the first two, and most of the third, set very different expectations.

When a puppy makes a mess on the floor, people deal with it. When an adult human houseguest does the same thing... reactions are different.

KoTOR2 was a different character. Some us had had our Shepard for 5 years or so. I think it makes it worse.

This.

I have seen worse individual endings, but to the ending of a trilogy, and this one in particular, it's a very low point.

Most disappointing ending? Without a shadow of a doubt. Had they not created the abominations that we had, the game would be a sure victory for pretty much every award going over the next year.

For all the people who complained about W40k Firewarrior, the ending was pretty satisfying.

Probably a bad thing if I enjoy watching a planet's crust cracked open in Atomic Fire.

In the context of a good, strong narrative and good game... I'd say yes.

I'd say yes, because it ignored it's own lore and continuity and the fact that writing up to that point was incredible and held to it's own saga throughout. If you look at just the ending alone, and in and of itself (without looking at -any- part of the previous games), it's not terribly bad; contrived, cliched and contentless, yes...but not terribly bad. But when you look at it as the cap of an epic storyline, with an impeccable established history that it completly destroyed, along with the galaxy that the hero had been trying for 5 years to save? Yes, most epic video game ending failure of all time to date. I'm sure Bioware will continue to make games and use the same writers tho', so it's possible they can top this and do it again....so ME may not remain champion forever.
