I just got rid of that stupid piece of bloatware.
Am I going to be forced to install the EA download manager to run this or download DLC?

How about to get DLC.
Hopefully that's in the game client itself and doesn't require installing EADM at all...
Then of course theres the issue of game patches...

Fernando Melo, Bioware's online producer confirmed in a thread in the old forums that you won't have to use the EA downloader to play the game - or to get the DLC.
There's an in-game DA downloader for that sort of thing. There will be a button/box for you to click on to get to the DLC.
About game patches, BIoware are looking into ways to deliver them in a variety of ways, I seem to remember Fernando saying.
