Getting this out of the way first: I hate the cycle idea as explained in ME3. Nearly everything we learn in ME series contradicts the idea that synthetics wiping out all organics is inevitable. I'm only including the "nearly" because I may have forgotten a rogue AI somewhere in the trilogy. By and large, Bender would be outraged at the lack of "kill all humans". Hell, compare the actions (pre-Reapers) of the Geth with the Krogans or the Rachni during their respective wars and the Geth can out-paragon Shepard.
But working off of the cycle premise, there's an unspoken genocide implicit here: the AI developed during the current cycle. If the Reapers leave it alone:
- The technological path for the next cycle is jeopardized
- The next cycle's organics are at risk because the AI is inevitably going to get stabby (according to Catalyst boy) and now has a head start
From the earlier games, we get a sense that the Reapers don't really care about the Geth. They're tools, like indoctrinated organics. There is no indication the Reapers bring the AI back with them when they're done. If correct, this means the Reapers are killing the advanced organics
and synthetics to save organics from synthetics.
Agree? Disagree? And are there any other weird repercussions that would logically follow because of the cycle premise that aren't discussed in-game?
