This is preliminary thoughts, I am 8 hours in.
So I've been playing Mass Effect 3 and it's actually been a very tough transition fron just importing my recently completed character from ME2.

It seems like Bioware had less... of a handle on how to deal with the dialogue wheel, and I am not just talking the prevalence of Autodialogue but the choices. There lacks a distinct possibility to actually create the personality of your own Shepard.

I mean in the other two games the choices were more varied and had a stronger difference between them. in 3 it just seems that's it's an annoyance that they wanted to get rid of and instill a default Shepard.

So who else felt they lost their carefully defined Shepard?

The beginning just threw me off the rails.

ME2's blow you up and then bring you back alive beginning was silly but at least I could make sense of what was going on.

ME3 you are suddenly back on earth in an Alliance uniform with no explanation of the transition. Shep just suddenly poofs from the Collector base mission to ending up on earth.

Jestina, did you play the Arrival DLC for ME2? Because that is the segway from 2 to 3. It fills in that gap on how/why shepard is on earth again.

I think in hindsight, bioware could have done a "recap" video/cutscene at the beginning of the game for people to get a good sense of context.

But on topic... it did feel that the dialogue from the first two games was much less involved. It is understandable, given the situation. In dire times in the experience of a soldier, less talk and more walk/bang-bang/boom-boom gets the mission done, rather than dialogue.

However it would have been nice for some stronger contrast in shepards dialogue. Did anyone else find that the lack of wheel conversation with companions (ashley/kaidan/tali) to be frustrating? I mean.. compared to what you could do in ME 1 & 2 with companions of similar nature.

They should have done something. I shouldn't have to buy another product just to figure out what's going on. I think the game would have been better if they had not thrown a reaper invasion right at the beginning of it. And yes, the dialogue choices were lacking.

There should have been a little more of a history intro, in larger font, that stayed on screen until you paged past it before it went to the first scene on earth.

A lot of dialog choices were lacking in the beginning, but you know they were kind of missing because well what was going on didn't allow time for details. It would have taken away from the sense of urgency. In ME1 and 2, during my 9 plays ea, I did notice that the middle and top choices were the same in many cases, and in a lot of cases all three choices resulted in the same dialog, and the exact same response from the other person. Small details. It creates an illusion of choice. You get deeper dialogue later in the game.

I would have enjoyed some more time to explore around earth, as silly as that sounds. Prior to the reapers coming in to obliterate it and forever change it. Simply to build some "importance" on what Shepard is doing/fighting for.

Even some stunning views of the planet from an orbital platform. And the supposed "trial" Shepard was to go through, would have been a fun way to open up.

I was honestly more disappointed in the overall lack of the paragon/renegade choices. I mean I can think of maybe 6 instances where I got the old red and blue choices, and one of them (after two playthroughs of pure paragon) I still can't get.
